Lyrics
It’s a hard run
Loving like we do
It takes way too long to get over you
And remember the line we drew
But call me over and I’m coming through
We’re searching for the night together
Where we don’t fall apart
Might be now and it might be never
It’s just another shot in the dark
It’s just another shot in the dark
And I wonder what it all means
Strange conversation with you in my dreams
And I don’t know what I’m gonna do
I’ve loved seven other women and they all were you
We had a run of bad romances
They always missed the mark
So close your eyes now and take your chances
It’s just another shot in the dark
It’s just another shot in the dark
I want you in the worst way
Is the gate code still your birthday
If you thought you met your Casanova
And he left you with a broken heart
Remember when it’s done and over
It was only just a shot in the dark
It was only just a shot in the dark
It’s just another shot in the dark
It’s just another shot in the dark

This new album sounds like a mix of Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel/Genesis, Don Henley, Steve Winwood, and Sting - and I love it. It's got the mid-to-late 80s / early 90s soft pop rock feel. By the way, Mayer is among the best living guitarists and if you don't believe me, see a live show. He has taken his guitar solo skills to another level and Clapton puts him among the best to ever play (saying a lot).

Exactly! I have to agree that, despite the seeming seriousness of much of his music (not a bad thing, of course), the man is also funny as hell, too! IMO, he could've easily carved out a career as a standup comic, had music not panned out for him like it did. As for the video, I too couldn't help but crack up at his hilarious take on all those cheesy dance moves and the "anguished" pounding on the wall in time to the music, which permeated many a video back in the 80's...In addition to being moved by such a bloody fantastic song as this!
