I love how not only is John such a big fan of Stevie, his favourite/most played guitar is his SRV signature he bought when he was 17, but he also hired his old guitar tech.

Exactly! Everyone has their own guitar hero that stands out among all the others. To me nobody can touch Hendrix. John stands out in front of SRV in my opinion. John can and has branched out into sissy pop music. He has gone into the blues. He has did his own unique thing ie: Continuum. I totally respect Johns guitar and writing skills.

He sounds so much like SRV at 1:34 onwards I wouldn‘t be able to hear the difference. Check out a vid on youtube type in „STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN - guitar soundcheck“ he plays the same exact licks with the same feel

Jazz players like George Benson, Tal Farlow, etc. have been using this rake/sweep technique WAY before shred players like Richie Kotzen existed. Mayer is not really into shred/metal stuff but he's a HUGE fan of jazz music.

my action's pretty low and the sad thing I had to adjust for that was increase the thickness of the strings.. Should I get a different guitar so the strings don't keep breaking? cuz I'm not sure what to do

I'd take it to a guitar tech and have them adjust it/set it up for you, That's what I always do.
