I love how his wife is now a character in his shows. He manages to poke fun at her while making her look awesome at the same time. EDIT: Since I'm apparently destined to receive reply notifications until I'm old and grey, I may as well post an updated take. Yes, it is sad that their marriage ended. No, I don't think that my comment "aged poorly". He is still being funny while being nice. And while I don't know how they both presently feel about each other, this video is recorded evidence that they once loved each other and were happy. In the long term, this will help their hearts heal a lot better than if the jokes were mean and resentful. Whatever mistakes were made during that marriage, this was not among them.

Either way i think it's one of those comedy gold mines that will never be exhausted...there's always good wife/husband jokes because every relationship is different and his it's own unique quirks.

@AndrewBecker-tq3zt if I have a bad day and use once (almost never anymore, but who knows what tomorrow brings?). If I can stop it there and get myself back under control, then telling my wife is counter-productive. I WILL tell her that I'm struggling and to check in with me each day for a while. But if I fuck up and KEEP fucking up, thenI have to bring her in on the whole thing to help me get myself back under control. So I know what you mean.

Most comedians will say, "I was walking down the street the other day when this thing happened" but you know that thing never happened so mentally you kinda check out of the joke. With Mulaney you know it actually happened so you lean into the joke a bit harder.
@rowynnecrowley16894 жыл бұрын
Um, actually, you *don't* know that. They're called jokes for a reason. They may or may not be true. More than likely, they're not. Sorry to ruin it for you.
@TakumiJoyconBoyz4 жыл бұрын
@@rowynnecrowley1689 My friend does standup and honestly, most of the shit actually happened or at least some version of it. The most common lies are actually about WHEN something happened. Comedians usually say things happened way more recently than they actually did.
@daveg68394 жыл бұрын
@@rowynnecrowley1689 I follow Mulaney pretty closely. Are his stories true or not - let's look at just one of them. In one of his bits he describes a school assembly where a Chicago detective came out to teach them about "stranger danger" -and he uses the real name of the detective in the routine - JJ Bittenbinder - and you can actually go on Wikipedia and look him up. Sorry to rain on your parade of cynicism.

Women are really interesting. Empty words mean so much to some of you. The guy suddenly ended his decade long relationship and 5 year marriage, got another woman pregnant and now the ex wife is suffering but atleast he didn't tell jokes about her on stage. 😂😂 How does it make any sense? Most comics who "trash talked" their wife on the other hand, have longer lasting and happier marriages.
