@@donparker5349 - WOW, I never knew I was Chinese!!! Actually I'm of Scottish and German ancestry. Always wondered why I liked Chinese food. My titties are also pink, not black. I have no anchor babies. Never had kids because I'm smart. As for having China under your thumb, the tariffs being levied at Chinese goods are not paid for by China but are placed on goods that come into the US from China, hence when American consumers buy Chinese goods, which are omnipresent, AMERICANS pay, not China. China also has no fear of Americans buying fewer of these goods because they have a worldwide market of consumers. It's nice for them to have a US market but not essential. They have the fastest growing economy on the planet with or without the US market. The Chinese don't buy many American goods and are becoming leaders in both new technology and production of technological goods. Look at stuff in Walmart or Best Buy or Target....almost all "Made in China" (or India or Pakistan or Vietnam or Korea....not in the US because labor is so cheap there. This is where so called American companies make their products). While on the topic, China in retaliation now refuses to buy all American agricultural products such as soy and pork which was a massive market for American farmers, That means American farmers have had their biggest market, China, taken from them. China can get these goods from other countries like Canada and Russia so it's no problem for them. That is also why the government, that is to say US TAXPAYERS, are having to compensate American farmers with billions of dollars to make up the shortfall created by loss in sales. YOUR tax dollars. In essence that is putting American farmers on welfare. Many American farmers will loose family farms that have been in their families for generations. Russia has a corner on the market with the gas and oil supply to Europe. It also trades with other communist block nations like North Korea and China. They'll survive. Americans DO have mythology not history. According to what they learn in school, the US invented everything from water to air. :)

@gregrock74514 жыл бұрын
@@johndanes2294 1) *"So it's leftist to criticize your own country now"* He was about 8 years shy of becoming a US citizen when this was recorded; ergo. it wasn't "his own" country. If an American who moved to Britain, made a nice living for himself, and then did a gig in Paris where he said numerous unflattering things about Brits to a theater full of Frenchman...it might be objectively funny, it might make most people laugh, and some of those laughing might be Brits. But anyone who says that there wouldn't be a lot of Brits who'd take exception is full of crap. Brits in general are as fiercely proud of their Britishness as us Yanks are about being American, and no less prone to putting their foot up someone's ass for dunking on them. Sure, if you ask, they'd say "Nah...that don't bother me!" and would most likely tell you they don't give two craps about their country's hereditary monarchs, as they're just a bunch of rich, out-of-touch, privileged toffs who should all just drop dead already. But if you're anything other than British, try going to a pub, knock back a couple pints, and start talking smack about the British and the Queen Mum and see how well the evening ends. Generally speaking, I like John Oliver, and I regularly watch "Last Week Tonight" because I find it genuinely funny, even if I disagree. But every once in while, he starts acting like some high-arsed liberal douchebag. *[EXHIBIT "A"]* " NOW LET'S GET ON OUT THERE AND SHOW EVERYONE WHY WE STOLE THIS COUNTRY FROM THE INDIANS!!" How about you blow me instead, John? I mean, you *DO* realize that modern-day Canada is a rather large chunk of real estate that used to belong to thousands of indigenous people who were conquered or otherwise brought to heel at the business end of a musket, right? Moreover, I'd bet my life that you are thoroughly aware that England was once a dominant world power, an empire built largely on military conquest and occupation whose reach extended to just about every corner of the world. An empire that was once so vast that the British used to say (with considerable pride) "The Sun never sets on the British Empire." In fact, America started out as a succession of 13 British colonies built on land that was taken from the natives by people who prior to 1776 were mostly loyal subjects to the British crown...many of whom remained that way when the colonies formally seceded from England. Most Americans can take a joke, and they can also handle honest criticism. In fact, I'd say we're far more tolerant than most. Between John Oliver goofing on America's political/social/economic/historical issues, Gorden Ramsey tearing a new one into the asses of Americans who have no business working at McDonald's much less owning a restaurant, Simon Cowell making aspiring performers wish they'd never auditioned or even been born, that tight-assed British chick who would tell Americans "You are The Weakest Link: **GOODBYE!!**" or Piers Morgan constantly making Americans out to be crazy people with a bizarre gun fetish, we can't get get enough of foreigners-- *especially* Brits-- busting our chops and rewarding them handsomely for doing so. Hell, up until a few years ago, John Oliver was a regular cast member of a political satire show currently helmed by a biracial South African immigrant. Like I said: by and large, I like John Oliver. In all fairness, he has no problem at all taking some self-deprecating jabs at Britain, British history, British culture, and his own Britishness, so he's a good sport. He has also traveled into active war zones on behalf of the USO to entertain and bring some much-needed laughs to US troops living in circumstances not conducive to merriment; as an American, a veteran, the son of a career soldier and the brother of a career Marine, and who has had relatives in harms' way in virtually every major exchange of hostilities in the past century, I'm grateful for that. But comedy is subjective, and sometimes it falls flat, even predictably so. 2) *"So what you just blindly follow your eternal leader now and march mindlessly to your state then?"* Of course. Because we all know that one cannot be critical of liberals without it being an automatic, de facto act of praising conservatives. **EVERYONE** knows that!! Saying that one thinks John Oliver habitually spouts Leftist/liberal rhetoric and dogma is precisely the same as saying Donald Trump is the most awesome politician/statesmen in all of recorded history. I find it funny how people in other countries frequently regard patriotism, love of country, and a propensity to push back on foreigners who are critical of these things as some sort of weird, even irrational trait or affectation unique to Americans, as an impenetrable mystery they can never understand. Oh, but see what happens when you lob a few broadsides at **them** and see how dispassionately calm they are about it.

I'm from England and i never took to John Oliver in stand up. However, whoever had the thought of last week tonight with him in it needs points on the package😂. Best show on TV........ And I don't have a TV. But follow every episode through KZbin.

During the pandemic there was something really funny: People giving interviews from home with books behind them. People in the US had their books just like they arrived from the bookstore - people in Canada and Europe had their books all messed around all damaged from handling.

I'm not Canadian or from the First Nations, but I feel there's a little bit of irony in Canadians clapping for someone point out how the USA stole Native American land. Canada was better about it, but still. Also, I had to look up the story behind the exclamation point in Boise's "Library!".

As a Brit, I will say that the Americans I’ve met are lovely people but very intense. I think it’s because in the U.K. we have a reputation (partially correct) of being reserved and stuffy. America is like that friend you have who is a bit crazy and you have arguments about stuff but you know deep down there’s a strong friendship and you have each other’s back (at least most of the time). For better or worse (that’s a whole other debate), the U.K. and US have had a very close relationship since probably World War I and particularly since World War II. There is also the quote “America is a large friendly dog in a small room. Every time it wags its tail it knocks over a chair.” by Arnold J. Toynbee, British historian (1889-1975) So on the whole I like individual Americans as I meet them but their government is a bit crazy sometimes. But you could say that about nearly any country.
