The 'Dragon' at the top of the headstone is the badge of Liverpool Football club,John was a big fan,the inscription at the bottom of the headstone is from John's favourite song, Teenage Kicks by The Undertones.

It's a Bird not a dragon. 🙂 The Liver bird is the symbol of Liverpool & Liverpool FC and located on the top of the Liver buildings. The Liver Bird has been a symbol of the city for over 800 years. RIP John.

@@cemu1065 “Got a little annoyed when he said it was a dragon”! Is that all you have to say about the video?🤨 A Phoenix is a mythical bird from Greek mythology, often associated with fire hence maybe why some would think of it as a dragon.

It was a well researched video…lots of info we didn’t know…Thankyou for doing all of that….but shame on you for thinking the Liver bird was a flipping dragon! Lol ( I used to work for the Royal Liver, and still find fascination looking up at the four birds perched at each corner of the building) but you brought the tears back to my eyes…I didn’t think John had been gone so long! He was an amazing human being, kind, caring and a genuine chap. As well as a talented DJ. I hadn’t even given a thought to his breaking the mould by playing new unheard of punk etc, rather than the “comfortable “ familiar music we expected to hear, but introduced us to the Undertones ( and what an incredible gesture Flying over to Ireland to meet them at his own expense, then featuring their music! I can just imagine the shock he got and how very touched he must have felt when the band turned up at his door to present him with their personal gift and tribute. As I say, a truly genuine bloke. That choked me up again too as I mentally pictured the scene. He introduced us to Pink Floyd who I love, and doubt any other DJ at the time ( bar Pirate ships) would have had such courage…but aren’t we glad he did? He may have said he came last at school, but he was a leading light in his job. Just wish someone had put fresh flowers or a plant on his grave. You will NEVER,EVER be forgotten John…your passing at such a young age was tragic, and my heart goes out to his family and close friends. My one selfish regret is never having got to meet him personally! But I’m a big believer in the after life…there has to be more than just three score years and ten, and John was robbed of at least ten years! So I truly believe in heaven he is back enjoying himself Dj ing, and finally getting to meet all his music heroes..Hendrix,Elvis, and so many many more as well as being back with his parents,….believe it….there is no death..just the next chapter of another big adventure, so maybe THEN I may have the pleasure of meeting this wonderful man at last. Godbless you John…bet your still watching Liverpool play from where you are! Once a Liverpool supporter ALWAYS one! Thanks Beep Beep ( don’t know your name! Sorry! ) this was a beautiful churchyard for John, and if I’m that way, I will be sure to bring you some Red flowers for a Liverpool supporter, unless they change them yet again..used to be blue! Now I read their THIRD kit ( why?) is “dark atomic teal and Rio Teal” whatever those colours are. I think you would have stepped up and said something about the revolving door of kit change..poor kids try to keep up and support, bad enough high ticket costs without pestering hard up parents having to keep buying new kit to support as well….it’s not fair John in these football loving kids, of which you were always one…so if you have any sway from where you are, please have a word…they would have listened I’m sure. Rest easy…see you in the future. Love and light. Helen 🙋‍♀️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕🦋🦋💐🥰 🎄🎅🙏🙏🙏xxx

So many bands owe their emergence and success to this man. No exaggeration to say he literally changed the face of british music in the late 70s. He was also a brilliant antidote to all the 'smashie & nicey' types who used to dominate radio one's output in them days

I remember back in the late seventies when I was 15 I used to stay up to listen to his radio 1 show, This guy got me into music especially the Undertones and a band called the members. Usually the next day at school the talk before assembly was always about his show the night before. In a way what I learnt from him was it don’t matter what you listen to as music is music. This guy helped me to kick start my record collection and is a personal hero of mine . The radio 1 shows literally became part of my life that extended into my social life as we used to buy the records he played then play them usually around a friends house on a Friday night. I admired him greatly as he played so many great records and always came across like I was listening to a friend no just a DJ. Still miss him to this day as he literally had an Impact on who I am today. Thanks for the video.

From John's later TV voice over work, one name sticks in my mind in John's unique voice - Mr Trebus. John voiced a series about hoarders and the story forever returned to Mr Trebus who could throw nothing away, little old guy who was Eastern European and living in London. So many of my formative years were spent listening to John Peel on a Sunday Night and also Annie Nightingale. 1st heard most of the bands I enjoy to this day in a set they did for the show. The Ruts, Tubeway Army, Joy Division and many, many more. I read his autobiographical book Margrave of the Marshes which was fascinating. John was treated rather badly by Marc Bolan who John championed all the way to the top only for Bolan to turn his back on John. Such a great man gone far too soon.

As a young punk rocker back in the 70's (i still am as an old man) i wouldn't miss John's show at 10 every night, living up north it was how we got to hear about all the new bands. When i play teenage kicks it brings back memories of hearing it on his show, and with it being played at his funeral they will always be linked together. He had a great voice and it brings back great memories to this old punk. Wonderful video a tribute, thank you for making it.

His wifes family lived in Fanny's Ale House Saltaire years before its conversion to a pet shop then the pub. Saw him with his family the day he came to the pub, in the days when they served food upstairs, about 1998/9. When he came to pay the bill they didn't take cards so they had to dig deap to find the cash amongst them selves. He took it all in good humour.

Hi Clarky when they started to do these videos I never thought I would get so attached to the subjects, especially if it's a sad one because you'd expect them to have such a longer life. And sometimes it's quite the opposite so there's nothing I can say. I do actually feel it because I've been studying them just before making the film. I like to watch documentaries on their life and career so it's a lovely process for me and I'm just pleased people enjoy them. Thank you. See you soon. Alan

Hello Charmaine, that's extremely kind of you to think about that aspect. They do take quite a bit of travel and organisation but I enjoy it so they always say it's not chore if it's your hobby. All the best Alan

John was a fan of the Faces, playing their tracks and giving them exposure which helped the band immensely. Pretending to play mandolin with the Faces on TOTP which upset some cranks at the BBC which we all like to see. His radio show was pretty unique and he regularly plugged new bands however obscure, some I’m sure never heard of again, but that was Peely he didn’t care and that was one of his qualities.

Hello Tim, yeah I've seen the video where he's pretending to play the mandolin. He looked pretty embarrassed in that. I thought not a natural performer as a singer or musician. Anyway, see you soon mate. Alan

I don't honestly think anyone could have described John better than you have done. You have done him justice & then some but then that is so typical of you. You treat everyone with respect & it shows & it makes watching your videos such a genuine joy. Thank you for your time, effort & hard work in making them for our entertainment & in some cases, if not most, education.

Panther king I think you've got to be the most generous person watching the channel. I think you do me too much justice, but I appreciate it really 100%. It really makes it the films worthwhile when people enjoy them and remember the people I do get satisfaction from that but not many people spend time saying so they're busy. I can understand that but you are very kind. See you soon. Alan

Again Alan, loved the way you delivered this wonderful tribute to John Peel.. Always knew of him but never know that much about him and he sounded such a genuinely nice man with his values definitely in the right place. Such a shame he died so young, especially after giving so much to the music industry. A great tribute Alan to a very decent generous human being. Thank you.

That's such a great tribute to him. You really made me see in layman's language what he did. I was 13 in 1980 and all my friends big brothers and every boy i knew after that was obsessed with listening. I see why now. I suppose he was ahead of the curve, cause he made people realise the value of listening to and finding new music. They do that now. But he did it with such kindness and relatability. Eh! Thanks. I watch alot of your videos but don't comment cause they bring up such good talking points that I don't know where to start. Keep up the good work. Love it!

John Peel was so humble. And I loved his diverse choices of music. His creation of the Undertones was epic. I was shocked when he sadly passed away while he was on holiday I believe. Oh and I loved Radio Luxembourg 🇱🇺. I spent many alnighters listening to the Pirate Radio while playing cards and having a few tipples. Great Times.
