Thanks Otis, Great story, Great song! Looked through comments hoping to find the link. I listened to Tim sing the song, then KZbin linked to John Prine singing the song! Great experience, to hear both!!! Fans of Tim and John should hear both versions.

Very cool story. Just a few weeks ago was talking to a fella I met a few months ago that I would have never guessed in a million years was a John Prine fan. Out of the blue he asks me if I knew who he was, I said sure why; then he starts telling me things I didn't know about John. I was blown away, a very cool moment.

I've heard a story (and so hope it's true) about John Prine being introduced to Bill Monroe.... "Mr. Monroe, this is John Prine, the guy that wrote the song Paradise." Bill shook his hand and said "Really. I thought that song was a hundred years old."

John Prine was AWESOME. he collaborated with The Band and Levon Helm. he had several songs that I liked I can't quite remember them at this moment. with the exception of the song "Paradise". he died from COVID-19 it was really a shame. I was so saddened to hear that.

I love his songwriting tip at the end! It is easy for a creative person to have a little success, then be scared and full of self doubt, because they feel they need to make another hit. Success can cause a lot of metal blocks, unless you can retain that feeling of freedom while being creative.

That is amazing and was as endearing as only a Prine tale can be! I started taking music writing and performing seriously around early 2019 with the sole intention of joining of Ohboy Records and I have even got a few likes from Fiona, which I doubt she made a second thought about it but it was something i hold very dear. I remember when he signed Trė Burt and thinking “I will be that guy someday soon” but as we all know, 2020 happened… that smashed my dreams harder than a 9 pound hammer. But on the flip-side of that tragedy, 2020 led to the biggest leap in progress with my craft and, even though he is gone, no matter where I end up on this journey I will always spread the Gospel of Prine to the world through my music.

Oh yeah ..I forgot to say what my favorite John Prine Song is. I know people often say this with a lot of artist that’s it’s hard to pick ‘a favorite’. I can honestly say this with John Prine. The man in my opinion wrote so many truly great songs. I’ll just say that I just happen to play ‘Spanish Pipe Dream’ earlier this afternoon before I saw this video. Maybe that’s why it come up in my feed..anyway that song is one of many favorites for me. Thanks!

Welcome to the world of writers like James Joyce or Herman Millville whose work in their life time was ignored or belittled. Emily Dickinson took a look around at fame and being published and in response dropped out. Music like any art form is a test of integrity vs recognition and like a sharpening stone its abrasion hones good alloy steel.

I think Tim is one of the coolest cats in the business. You could not find someone less pretentious, more down to earth and with such incredible the talent. I loved the Prine anecdotes. I think my buddy saw him in that pool hall. Must have been a haunt. I am a long time Prine enthusiast and funny enough one of his last is my favorite: Summers End.

That was a nice little tale that Mr. Carroll related for us. And he is really accurate describing John's, demeanor. I met, or I talked to him briefly, one time. He asked me for an ink pen. He and I were the only two people in the mess tent at a concert where he was performing. And Jim is right. He doesn't have that big ego and that attitude / aura, where every move he makes is a big production. One of those, "Glad you got to meet me" types. Of course, I was, not overwhelmed, but very aware of who he was. We just made small talk while we looked around the table for a pen. If you didn't know who he was, he could have been the janitor. Really calm and just..even. Far From Me.

As a singer songwriter myself it’s so thrilling to hear about and I can imagine all of the excitement and all the other emotions Mr.Carroll went through as he described his experience with the recording of his song by the great John Prine. I also love hearing as we often do about how nice, sweet and humble Prine was. Thanks for this video Otis!
