Mahmoud was super. I remember in college he had a 50 point game. His game was more shack and bake. Unstoppable. What I remember is he would stay in the tunnel. Then naturally one day a reporter asked why. Most people can't fathom sacrifice like him, Craig Hodged, Kaepernick, Ali, Curt Flood and some others. Abdul-Rauf made his protests solitary, with hardly any popular support. He even spoke his mind and truth to power in 2001about neineleven (something that takes true courage and integrity) it cost him the contract the Knicks were going to sign him to, as well as being what really earned him the blackballing. John’s telling of Mahmoud is factually inaccurate. He was a big star at LSU and kind of looks like a smaller Steph Curry, but his NBA stats are closer to Del Curry. He never made an all star game and continued to play for 2 more years after the anthem controversy before signing with Europe, then came back and played one more year with the Grizzlies. His “blackballing” consisted of a one game suspension.
