Especially after finding out T.O. did that because the "God is looking down on the cowboys star" motto for the Dallas Cowboys stadium he did as a nice gesture, then when Enmitt Smith and dallas took it as an insult (understandably) went back and slammed the football on the star Then T.O. said "Ok, you wanna be like that ok its on" then he did it again out of spite and Teague blindslided him

Side note about the 1999 season: That season the 4-12 Niners and 5-11 Falcons played each other on Monday Night Football at the end of the season. That has to be one of the worst combined records ever by two teams to play each other on Monday Night. But they couldn’t have predicted Jamal Anderson and Steve Young’s injuries that derailed both teams.

@@phoodiegamesOfficial Jaguar Gator 9 did a video talking about late season Monday Night Football matchups in the late 90’s and early 2000’s that featured teams that turned out not to be super relevant. That matchup was far from the only one, but it is probably the most egregious example. What happened in those years is that we officially started to see the biggest effect of free agency and the salary cap: It became harder to predict which teams would be relevant going into a season (which is what you hope to be able to do with late season Monday Night Football games). As for that particular game, at least you could say those two played a close game, even if neither were relevant.

Owens became a pain in San Fran but he got even worse later on with other teams. I'm a longtime 49er fan. When Owens was leaving, I was really curious to know if the problems were with the organization or with Owens. Seeing the problems arise with his next team, the Philadelphia Eagles, headed by respected Coach Andy Reid, I thought, "So it wasn't the 49ers after all." I had the honor and privilege to meet T.O. in 2015 while visiting Southern California. He was a very respectful and cool person to talk with. Completely the opposite that the media portrays about him. Anyway, I asked him about his relationship with Mariucci during his time in San Francisco. He flat out said that Mariucci was running the team like an old school college coach. He didn't know how to manage the egos of the team, and everything fell apart. Now, Owens admit that he should have handled certain situations more mature. But, as Jerry Rice said, if cross him, he will never forget. This helps understand his time in Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo, and Cincinnati. He needed a strong father figure to keep him in check, and it seemed no one wanted to take that role.

Shanahan would’ve been a better coach to finish the 90’s with; especially considering what happened in Denver. In retrospect, the Niners could’ve repeated in 95 if Steve Young doesn’t get injured in my opinion. As for Seifert, from a Seahawks fan, Hall of Very Good coaching career. He obviously inherited a lot of talent, but also got a really good resume out of it. Two championships, a further three conference championship game teams, and even with the really bad three year stint in Carolina, his win percentage is .648; about the same as Bill Belichick right now, and bested by only four coaches who coached as many games as he did. He also was their defensive coordinator for a couple championship teams beforehand, and counting those years, he was on their coaching staff for all but two of their 16 straight seasons of 10+ wins. Hall of Very Good.

Apparently, TO, as a child, lived across the street from his father. He did not know that it was his father. You know how he found out? He was flirting with the neighbor girls across the street when he was like 10 or 11 years old. So their hand was forced, because they were his SISTERS. I'm serious. THAT is how this man found out his absentee father, was in fact, his neighbor. Hitting on his sister, that he didn't know as his sister, and ergo, finding his father. Yes. I'm serious. So I can't condone a lot of what he's done, but MY GOODNESS that he accomplished what he did is nothing short of miraculous. What a demented childhood. I know a lot of these guys come from tough backgrounds with absentee fathers, and I feel for them. But the kind of psychological damage this situation would do to a child... So when T.O shouted "I love me some ME", it makes a lot of sense. His own father didn't, and his Mother was willing to expose him to that. How can you NOT be exceptionally insecure.

My best guess is that it’ll be something from the early to mid 2000’s that happened to involve extensive media coverage. In the Vikings doc when he talked about Randy Moss’s pretend mooning from the 2004 playoffs, he made a comment about how the media climate in the 2000’s was unique. He gave examples of a couple wild things that happened in the 70’s that nobody cared about, and commented that if the mooning happened today, that the news cycle flips over every week and people would stop talking about it real quick. And like in the Falcons doc, he said “but that’s a story for another time”.

Basketball has players whove never lost in their lives. Since 1 player can really win at every level before the nba, they come up and experience losing for the first time in many cases. Theyve never dealt with playing on a bad team before. Theres more to it than that, but i think thats a huge factor in why. Theyve never really had to deal with adversity within the game(most guys) , so when it comes up its a brand new experience. And its more of sport where individual praise is constantly thrown around. To your point, Jerry Rice was not always the easiest guy to get along with yet the 49ers never even considered trading him or letting him walk until he was way past his prime. Then you have guys like Lawrence Taylor who were just a tornado and again, Giants were never trading him. TO, who was immensely talented, just kept getting pushed out. I don't think he's a horrible guy but when you're as talented as him, Randy Moss falls into the same category, but teams would rather get rid of you then put up with you, then you are a huge problem. That's not saying others weren't also part of the problem but you are a major contributor to it.

i read TO's book awhile ago, his origin story stems from - sleeping with his mouth open on a team bus ride and waking up from having a teammate spit a loogie in his mouth and everyone laughing at him. forget if it was in middle or high school but he was a scrawny uncoordinated unconfident kid at the time, and became an absolute beast.

@Gungho73
@Gungho73 3 ай бұрын
@@vuthearithkeary4704 He mocked the Ray Lewis dance in a game against the Ravens while in Philly following a TD score (this was the era of the receiver post TD celebration just for younger fan context this while not normal was an example of something some receivers seemed to just do at the time). This was after T.O purposefully told San Francisco he would not play for the Baltimore Ravens if they traded him, at a time when Baltimore could've used the future hall of famer (Baltimore struggled offensively that year yet still went 9-7 iirc) and his play was arguably the difference in the game. Ray wasn't a fan of that, “If you’re going to play a football game, don’t be a coward and wait until you make one play and do something,” Lewis said. “Just play football. His celebration doesn’t mean anything. What’s flattering is that he has me on his mind when he’s at home.” Apparently, dissing Ray wasn't an issue only with many of the Ravens players. Hines Ward of the Steelers took offense to the disrespect T.O showed Ray and the very next week the Steelers beat up on the Eagles at Heinz, while Hines took delight in twice mocking T.O's "Eagle Flap." I don't know of any specific beef following that off the top of my head honestly. But when you make the Steelers take revenge for the Ravens, their hated rivals, that's impressive and at least a minor footnote in T.O's legendary beef career.

Old 49er fan here. This video brings a lot of mixed feelings, memories. Coach Mariucci did inherit a roster with some great stars. But it was an aged roster and the wheels fell apart. Terrel Owens early on showed promise. He'd of course follow through and become a true star. There is no doubt Owens was an amazing WR. One of the best ever in that position. He stayed pretty healthy, he balled great for several teams. He was a competitor. But man was he a headache for every team he was on. Even throwing his own QBs under the bus.
