John said that Kobe's take on Shaq's conditioning has nothing to do with the number of championships they could've won. The Lakers trading Shaq stopped he and Kobe from winning more rings, according to John. He also dispelled the notion that Kobe got Shaq traded.

Smh. Shaq has said numerous times in recent interviews it was a money decision by Dr Buss. They wanted him to take a pay cut. Kobe was about to get his 1st max contract. Kobe definitely factored into Shaq getting traded. He was a Free Agent that summer and threatened to sign with the Clippers unless the Lakers made changes. The Lakers had to choose between Shaq and Kobe and Kobe was 7 years younger than Shaq so it made sense to build around the younger star. They were never going to play together again after getting embarrassed in the 04 Finals

Shaq left orlando because he felt Penny was getting more love. He was afraid Penny would be the guy and not him. After all, people like guards more than big guys. He left to LA and said it was because of a money issue. Orlando later on matched the offer and he really had leverage over Magic but still chose LA because he wanted to be the man to bring the ring back to LA. Honestly, Shaq and Kobe would've gotten 1 more ring if they stayed together. Shaq was outta shape and LA life was breaking him down.
