You will be missed, John. I thought you were a wonderful foil for Bob. You offered a highly knowledgeable and calming influence to the show. Had great opinions and points of view that (I thought) hugely improved the podcasts (and the broadcasts back when). And - of course - you fantastically carried the show during Bob's recovery. ☮

Sad to see you leave, John. Been a huge fan of yours since the Sportsnet days and from PTS with Bob and of course this podcast. You were truly a champ during Bob's recovery. I hope you come on the podcast to tell everyone what your new gig will be. That said, I hope Bob's new permanent co-host will be Richard Deitsch, who is a regular guest but it would be nice to permanently reunite the two from PTS days.

Wow, this is big news. Bobcat had all the best sports guys by his side over the decades, and for me, John Shannon was the best. What a duo. Part of the reason Bob is/was so great is because he didnt have stiffs by his side so he could come off superior. Bob had guys by his side who might have been more entertaining, maybe more experienced in areas, more intelligent (dare I say lol) and guys who had already made a name for themselves. For me that was part of the genius of Bob. He brought in the best to give us an outstanding sports talk show. Ego in check, never felt threatened. These 2 guys gave us a ton of great sports talk over such a long period of time and showed a quality never to be duplicated, and thats a fact. There will never be another Bob McCown on our radio for sports talk in Canada and John Shannon, what can we say? As a fan, I dont think Ive ever seen a more loyal, professional and intelligent guy in that business. John always seemed like a guy you could trust and count on. I think he proved that, without having to, working with Bob for all the years. Good luck John.

I came to Toronto in 1993 and immediately i learned that Bob was different. In the late 90's all the way to around 2018 prime time sports was on my commute home. I loved that Bob didnt suck up to the Leafs like most broadcasters here and that he didnt appear to take bullshit The Fan is weaker, not required listening anymore. Hope Bob can continue to do the podcast

A: It's good to see Bob almost back to his old self and able to take the reins again BUT B: To see a ICON like John Shannon not be a part of The Bob McGown ___________ is a loss and will be missed. C: Without John being a part of any of the Bob McGown many renditions of his show will be felt by all fans and will sorely be missed Thanks John for the good run and here is hoping Bob can keep it going. Personally only watch baseball stuff but I am sure others watch the less important sports.

I used to watch the 3-hour radio show on Rogers and I watched the whole thing and I'd relisten to it again. Bob just has an incredible talent he has an amazing voice, he has great tone voice inflection and he just entices the audience the way he fleshes apart topics. No one does it like him and to this day I'm not really interested in any other sports podcast I think you ruined it for me Bob with your talent.

It's 'opening night' for the NHL. And no Bob McCowan podcasts. Feels strange - not in a good way. I hope you find a replacement for the (quietly) legendary John Shannon soon. Heck, I'll do it for nothing if it will help get things started sooner. I am nobody. Absolutely nobody. But I have followed Bob's broadcasts since he was doing them from Vegas. And I love sports. Just sayin'... ☮

That was a little uncomfortable to watch. Wondering what prompted the sudden divorce. Always appreciated Shannon’s measured perspective. Provided good balance. Hoping Richard Deitsch isn’t the replacement. He seems knowledgeable but very difficult to listen to. Every sentence is littered with filler words such as “like”.
