John Sutton in MY COUSIN RACHEL (1952)

Here's British character actor John Sutton (1908-1963) in one of his many roles while under contract to 20th Century-Fox. MY COUSIN RACHEL is an excellent romantic Gothic mystery, starring Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton (in his American film debut). Here are Mr. Sutton's first and only scenes as the ill-fated Ambrose Ashley.

Many of the great actors had problems converting from stage acting to screen acting. Mr Richard Burton had no such problem This is his first American film for which he was noted . Burton was just superb. I many of the period films of the 1950's and 60's many actors put on their togas or whatever and spouted their dialogue, most of them were laughable in the dress and dialogue. NOT BURTON In any outfit he makes you believe ( Becket ) etc Bravo
