In the 1980s the charts were overflowing with quality music like this. How lucky we once were. Now fast forward to nowadays, at least we are lucky to have KZbin to continue listening to the hits from the 1980s.

I was 15yo in 1980 completely unaware of how lucky I was to experience the best decade. Us kids had it all, freedom without the pressure of social media, incredible music and movies. Crazy fashion and hair, and no mobile phones. We actually socialized, we talked face to face, we knew our dates before the first date. Life had it's downsides but we didn't let them get in the way of having a good times. Nearly every person I know who experienced the 80's as a kid would go back in a heartbeat, no hesitation. I tear up when I hear the music from those times because they were the best of times. I ❤ 80's.

I was 27 in 1980, and I would go back in a heartbeat too. My sister and I talk about it all the time and our idea of Heaven is San Francisco in the 1980s. The midnight rides in one of our convertibles when we could not sleep, law school for her, Helicopter pilot for me, our buddies some gone now, some still with us. But we all will meet at the Cliff House one day again as we did then.

After being separated from my husband for a year, thinking I didn't have any fight left, he felt the same. I heard this on my drive home tonight, and my heart came to a crashing halt. 20 years together is always worth another try. So I called him up and said, "Guess what I just heard on the radio?" His response, "I ain't missing you either, come home. " I'm going home tonight ❤️

I can't imagine what it's like for teens today with so much incoming from all of this technology they're constantly bombarded with! It must be overwhelming for these poor kids in high school right now with smartphones connecting everyone on all of these different platforms! How do they keep track of it all? The pressure must me unrelenting in their digital existence! And here I am, pulling up music from when I was a teenager, reminiscing about old girlfriends, friends, etc. So much time wasted being terrified or too stressed to be comfortable in the moment. Driving 30mph over the speed limit to get there faster. Wherever THERE was, and why it mattered that much. It didn't. It never does. But no one could've made me believe that back then. When I start to feel late or panicked about time now I just stop myself and remember to slow it back down. Breathe in-breathe out. Because it's so easy to let it spin out of control, and miss the smell of the flowers right by our noses.

I sometimes think we are far more complex than we give ourselves credit for being . Okay we're stuck in the here and now , not by choice , but by the passage of time . Unfortunately , until a time machine is invented , there's not a lot we can do about that . Other than take the occasional mind trips , back to a happier , more fulfilling time . Admittedly upon reflection , it was far from perfect , as it never is in the real world . But on the whole , it was a damn sight better than it is right now . And as someone else remarked , thank goodness for KZbin . Where with the press of a few buttons , as if by magic , you're instantly transported back to those times . I suppose in some respects , KZbin could in itself , be classed as a time machine , viewed in that way . Just as if nothing has changed . And of course it never will . It will always stay the same . Safely locked away , in the vaults of time forevermore ........

There are several future classics in todays world. "Ace In The Whole " Struggle Jennings " A Thousand Years " Christina Perri "Open My Eyes " Buckcherry Those are just the first that came to my mind. There are more if people just have to listen for them and there are so many different genres to open our minds along with our already established heart & soul. I hope you find a way to broaden your mind along with adding to your music library. "MISSING YOU" by JOHN WAITE is one of my all time favorite songs.

"I hear your name, in certain circles, and it always makes me smile" That line has been following me round since the 90s, and I can still feel that aching pain in the bottom of my stomach to this day. Putting on a fake smile like I don't care, asking about him as if I don't care. Just that fraction of a second when your heart literally falls falls through your chest and you have to pretend you're fine. It's so funny how this song perfectly sums it all up.

This song was literally everywhere during the late summer and autumn of 1984 and it was on heavy rotation on MuchMusic (Canada's MTV). I was in the sixth grade that autumn and remember my school bus driver always had the radio on and this came on practically every morning. I have warm, fuzzy feelings and memories of hearing this song, bright, sunny, crisp autumn mornings, seeing fall foliage outside, on my way to school.

Aww... This must be so special to you then and I'm glad that you have this wonderful song to such fond memories. For I understand there's no better way to recall moments we hold dear to our hearts than thru good music. I have such a song that feels that way to me. It wasn't this one but just like you, I was on a bus in our field trip in my 5th grade. It was the first field trip I'm in that my mother didn't went with me and I liked the temporary independence and being just with my friends that time. It was a beautiful afternoon, we were driving by a countryside to our next itinerary and my classmates were tired by that time and the bus blessedly quiet, I was staring out of the window while listening to my walkman when the famous song popped in and never had it felt more special and personal. I always play it whenever I have a tough day, and get transported back to those peaceful memories. Amazing how music seems to stow away mementos of our life with it and could make us remember it just as vividly as though it was yesterday, feelings and all. 💚

Don't know how it is for Mister X, I know the feeling is crippling. Pain shoots thru my body like arrows. Even, breathing is hard at times. You know what though? I got a plan. Sometimes when i get all down, i remind myself i got a heart, and a fight like a LION, everything changes then. :)

I got divorced when I first heard this song. The protagonist is obviously in denial that he's hurting so he's fighting his pain by denying it. And it's not working. I'm sure this song had much emotion put into it when it was written and produced. It stands by itself as a wonderfully written song. Waite deserves many kudos for this. Due to my own angst over divorce. This song cut me to pieces at first and now 22 years later. I so appreciate this song. The guitar part creates a great cutting accent.

This song is medicine for my soul... stuck in quarantine missing the person I try to tell myself I'm over. Sometimes there is just that one person you'll always love, even if they don't love you in return, even if years pass by. I've made peace with the fact that we will never be together, but the longing never leaves me. I've had to accept that a part of me will always be missing. Such is life in this world.

I’m an 80’s kid . Music was it for me. I’d watch MTV for hours when it played only music. God bless you John Waite. This song helped so many of us get through teen excruciating breakups. Iconic song and phenomenal vocalist. The music of the 80’s hands down the best. Real singers, real musicians, lyrics that we could relate to. This iconic masterpiece was during John’s solo career. He was also lead vocalist for Bad English, The Babys, and Ringo Starrs All Starr band. Last summer I went to a concert with John and Rick Springfield. Tears streaming down my face, and goosebumps all over STILL! He still has that magic and sounds almost exactly the same. ❤❤❤

"And there's a heart that's breaking Down this long distance line tonight" are probably the most memorable and emotional song lines in my life. When I was in my early twenties in 2001, I moved to the US for studying two semesters and left my first long-term relationship back in Europe. I could feel in our phone calls that her love for me was fading away, while I just grew into missing her more and more. I was driving in my car, when I heard this song. I was listening to the lyrics and while he isn´t singing about the same situation, for me it was close enough and it just cut right into my heart. I got so emotional, I had to turn the radio off. But these two lines were itched into my brain and the words always made it back into my conscience like a mantra. After she really broke up with me over the phone, I couldn´t listen to this song for a long time without starting to cry, because my heart had been broken down that long distance line. I haven´t been able to enjoy this song for years, because I haven´t been able to unlink the emotions of the break-up from this song. Don´t know, if I have today. This song still deeply moves me. For me, a musical masterpiece, because it captures the pain of a one-sided break-up in such a graphical and relatable way. I hope people will keep listening to this song.

@@hemelinger7792 I was very moved with your story. As it reminded me of my story, albeit much older. Thank you for sharing. I was in my 20's as well. 1985. I loved him with all my heart. The love of my life. We were engaged, he cheated, and got a girl pregnant. But he didn't even tell me. He just stopped coming over, stopped calling. I had to go look for him at his job to find out what was happening. And he just said simply that he didn't love me anymore. I found out later about the girl, and the baby. You can imagine how heartbroken I was. I couldnt listen to this song for a couple of decades, lol. I felt your pain. Like you I cannot unlink my emotions and hurt from this song. Even though I no longer love him. After the break up I moved away to Mexico and he was in California hence the "long distance line " I could relate to. You expressed your feelings in a way that I couldn't. Thanks for putting my feelings into words!.
