The continental coins aren't a currency of value, they're a currency of *favors.* If you have one of these coins, you have the actual money to back up and pay for whatever it is you're buying/doing. So with John Wick, for example, _every single one of those coins_ is a favor or a deed he has done for someone. That's someone he's killed, someone he's protected, someone he's eliminated. Therefore, whenever you use one, that is you paying for the deed. So for the bar example: They're paying for the bartenders service to them as members of the continental. But they still buy the drinks with actual money. Any time when John was originally working, and someone hired him to kill someone, they would give him money, AND a coin. The coin is the trade of favors, deeds, and actions for the continental within this underground criminal world. So yes, you were very close there!

@Silk Sonic From what I know, it's never been really specified, but perhaps it'd be easier/simpler to say that each coin was for a job. So I think 1 Coin for a good assassination, or 1 coin just to kill 5 of these thugs. So the number of kills would likely be limited to the number of jobs. We got to see a bit of them being used in the way I believe they would be both in this and the previous films a bit better I think. Particularly, the instance with Perkins in the hotel. John gave the guy a coin to watch her while management came to pick her up. It was a favor and a deed for John. The way they say "Catch and Release" to each other implies a standard procedure, so they likely already know what the specifics would be in terms of payment. The coin is the real benefit/reward, the money is what pays the bills. However, given that Johns particular profession and skill is in killing, it'd be safe to say that each coin is worth at least 1 kill.

@@IMRifley in my opinion it all depends on what the giver of the coin thinks its worth ... because lets compare... in the first movie John gets a room for 1 coin.... but actually gives 12 coins to the clean up crew on his house... that is a big jump in value in my opinion... he could just given 1 coin for "1 clean up job" but instead gave 12 coins for each body... just like he could have gave 3 coins for his room at the continental if he wanted to stay 3 days ... i think its all subjective and dependent on the giver... what is this favor ACTUALLY worth... its is worth 1 coin to stay in a hotel room.. its it worth 1 coin for another guy babysitting a sleeping one? its up to interpretation ... and just like assholes... opinions.. everyone has 1 :D

Fun fact: Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, who have directed and produced the John Wick movies are Stuntmen themselves and have actually worked as Stunt Doubles with Keanu on the Matrix before. That's why all those fight scenes and stunts look so good.

The PATH train goes from Manhattan to New Jersey. Look up pics, it does look like that. I take that train daily. That scene with Common and Keanu shooting at each other while walking is also inside the WTC mall.

the High Table is like outlaw UN, where all the high rollers of all crime syndicates worldwide confer. the Continental is _neutral ground and billboard services_ in NYC, alongside the Bowery King's domains, which would be underground muscle, intelligence and supplies. think of it as _neutral clans in cold war:_ some run casinos, some run motor shops, some run hotels, some run smuggling, etc. John belongs to the assassins trade, which either clan can recruit to take out the competition. you'll see other syndicates and branches in JW3.

The scene in the park is Winston showing how much power he holds in New York as everyone in the park was part of the Continental. They had the right to take up the international contract, but on Winston's orders they ignored it. Even the hour John was given is not normal, but a sign of respect Winston has for John. And Excommunicado means John needs to die. The Continental has to follow the orders of the High Table

The big consistency that Keanu has with his movies is he is named John in a lot of them. it has been announced allegedly that Keanu will be the new Constantine being in the works. maybe Keanu can save the DCU. Also the villain in the first movie were not high table just Russian mafia stuff, The police also have their own "agreement" with the assassins world, Morpheus is allowed to function by the High Table (foreshadowing) as an information dealer using carrier pigeon, Winston is not high table, and think of the Continental like Subway; an independently owned franchise (keep in mind for JW3).

John Wick 2 is when things get real interesting. The world building starts, the system is developed further, and the actions starts getting more aggressive. Also, if you haven't noticed, this is the first time Keanu Reeves and Lawrence Fishburne returned in a movie together ever since the Matrix trilogy

We have four John Wick movies, and the people behind it said that if they knew how popular the 4th one was going to be, they would have made a script for the fifth movie right away. Originally that was supposed to be the case, but the pandemic kind of got in the way for two years. They're now looking to try get the fifth one greenlit. They're also looking to do an entire series based on just The Continental. It'd essentially be a prequel series.

Santinos marker can’t be pulled unless he would have pulled it. The first one was pulled because Viggo pulled it in exchange for him letting him go. Santino wasn’t going to pull it. That’s why he didn’t care. Dead or alive he still had to keep fighting, but Santino being alive put everyone in New York in Danger including Winston you know he was talking about takin* his power once he was officially in. Fun fact keeanu did all the driving stunts himself he went through driving training as well as gun training and fight training. He did all his stunts except being hit by the cars and being thrown/ falling down the stairs he had stunt doubles for that

1) Unironically, yes, this world kinda does have an Illuminati situation going on 2) Wick's lack of elocution is legendary. For perspective, in the most recent movie, I think somebody counted and found that he spoke only 380 words in the entire 2 hour 45 minute long movie, while killing 180 people. 3) There is actually a TV series in production called Continental, set in this universe. Also, there is a spinoff based on a character who is seen in the 3rd movie. 4) It is surprising that there is no John Wick video game. However, in terms of pacing and overall levels of violence, you could play Hitman for John Wick 1 and 2, then swap to Call of Duty for John Wick 3, and finally to Doom Eternal for 4. The series only escalates. 5) If I were and assassin and saw his name on an open contract, I would just take the weekend off, as the local supply of hitmen is about to drop precipitously, and my rates are about to go up. 6) A shot through the top of the head is typically lethal, but there is actually a chance that it passes between the two hemispheres of the brain without causing immediate death. Santino screwed himself so hard here, when he had one great option. Just ask John to avenge him if somebody ever kills him. Suddenly, he's untouchable and John isn't pissed at him because the only way the favor gets called in is if Santino is dead.

There are VR games that are inspired by John Wick's rhythmic shooting sequences (ex. Pistol Whip, amongst others) that contain similar club music you'd hear in the movies. So, think of Beat Saber but shooting. More of a party game rather than any solid plot.

2 possible reasons for John shooting Gianna: 1) It was his job to kill her, her killing herself could have been construed as John not doing the job, and therefore not meeting the requirements of satisfying the marker. 2) She may have been Catholic, as the Italian mob is, which considers suicide a sin. Shooting her before she died may have been an act of kindness for his friend.
