Welcome to the Heavey Spoilers show, I'm our host Paul aka the biggest Wickhead on youtube and this video we're gonna be talking about a number of the big things that we've learned about John Wick Chapter 4 since it's release.
In this video we're gonna be talking about the alternate ending that they considered using and also how the cast and crew reacted to Lance Reddicks passing.
I wanna get straight into it but as we're talking about the original ending we have to give a spoiler alert up top before we get into it. This scene was shot as an add on to what we saw at the end and it may ruin the film if you haven't checked it out yet. With all that out the way, huge thank you for clicking this, now let's get into John Wick Chapter 4.
Ok so the movie ends with John taking down the Marquis but in order to do that he has to goade him into taking part in the duel itself. In his arrogance once he sees that John is seeminly beaten he decides to take Caine's weapon and he goes to shoot Johh. Wick didn't actually fire during the last shot of the duel and he uses this opportunity to kill the Marquis and free not only himself but also Caine and his daughter.
However he's mortally wounded and he ends up dying on the steps of the church after uttering his wifes name Helen.
Now many people were shocked to see this scene playing out as Wick was seen as this invincible and unstoppable terminator that was the very personification of the boogeyman.

Because of this many people have speculated over the last couple of days that Wick is actually still alive and there's been a lot of wires getting crossed over whether he'll return or not. There was a fifth John Wick film greenlit along with four and thus there's been talk that they just haven't announced that so people go with the ending. Wick is also due to appear in the Ana De Armas spin-off the Ballerina and you can see how rumours can spread.

It's critical that everyone thinks Wick is dead, so he can stop losing his friends. The fun part will be how can he change this assassin network for the better, like to just barely avoid WW3 ( in a nutshell, my screenplay I wrote years ago ) .

They could do 2-3 more movies (prequel) starring Keanu. From his time in Ruska Roma up to his "impossible task" when he left everything behind for his wife. We'll get to see more Marcus, Aurelio, Winston, Sofia, Shimazu, Caine, etc. I expect the impossible task to be as intense as Chapter 4 since that's when he got his nickname Babayaga. Plus, it's a better sendoff for the franchise since it will end in a happy note with John and his wife finally together as a loving wife and a 'loving husband'.

I always feel weird when I wonder why I should feel something for a celebrity. The overwhelming majority of us never knew Lance Reddick in person, but here's a man who put himself out there and on screen to entertain the world and pursued his passion. From the sounds of it he was a very good person and well-liked among his peers. On a very down to earth, very human level, it's sad. I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through, but I hope somewhere they are able to find a little joy in that so many people really enjoyed seeing their son, their husband, and father on screen. While we can't feel the depth of their pain, so many of us I'm sure took a moment of solemnity for Lance when that scene hit.

I think they faked Wick's death for a couple reasons: 1. so he can enjoy his hard earned freedom in true peace, the simbolism of John Wick is dead, but John the loving husband is still alive and well... but where? ;) 2. so they can focus on branching off the Wick-verse with Ballerina, the Continental and now Caine, pretty sure they still want to do JW5 but they want to take their time on that 3. if you look at Wick's dog at his funeral, the dog is looking at another direction, as sensing his master alive somewhere near

Apparently there was supposed to be another hour of film that got cut down, and my theory is that it probably had a "hobo life" segment, a scene where John gets his car back, and a scene of him killing various High Table members before finally getting to the Elder. (This includes the Judicator from the 3rd movie) It's just weird how the movie started with quite a few time skips and no explanation behind it.

Lance Reddick. RIP. Graduated with a degree for Music Composition from The Eastman School so when you see him in Bosch playing piano , that was him. Eastman is one of the premier music schools in the world. What a pro . Love and respect to all who held you dear Lance.

I believe that JW 5 will be a PREQUEL, explaining how he got out and how/why his wife died. The brilliance of this is that the cast of heroes and villains we've seen in 1 to 4 (especially Santini) will appear again, and we'll instantly know who they are. BTW I think Tracker is Sofia's son, so another movie there.

What I really love about these films is every installment is a masterpiece. All the films put together is unlike anything we've ever seen. @@Tm3films One of the core creative people on these movies (director Chad Stahelski) said in interviews the only way he ever saw the story ending was with John's death. Even if it turns out it was faked, with all of the people John has killed, it's somewhat inevitable that the family member or friend of someone he's killed would come back at him for revenge. That's part of the point of the end credits scene.

Paul just saw this movie with 7 of my good friends Sunday 3pm showing and it was packed cinema all seats full in IMAX in Boston, it was great 4th installment of the franchise for sure and I’m going to see it again this Tuesday because when your seeing it with a packed audience you miss certain things with the crowd clapping or cheering! I have an alternative that says Chapter 5 will happen with John. Hear me out. If the Journey to the duel represents the stations of the cross.The beatings from Pontius was the gauntlet. He fell three times… twice up the stairs and once on the third bullet. Even his clothes are taken from him at the top of Golgotha (the church). Winston is technically Judas when he betrays him in Chapter 3. He bowed his head and said Helen (it is finished). Then we saw the tomb. But what happens after. In 3 days he comes back. His journey isn’t over.He’s got another movie which creates a new movement (Christianity) that over throws the previous regime. He created an idea that you can be redeemed and through his death that the tracker saw, he can spread the word… the first apostle. honestly when you consider this, they only need the idea of John in Chapter 5, and the strike down of the apostles by the table, but eventually the families buy into the idea that the table is fallible and the table falls apart.... thoughts?

Watched JW4 in a small town theatre here in New Zealand, 8pm Fri 24th and the dedication to Lance was there on screen before the movie started. Great effort to do so and appreciated by the audience

Seeing this on imax was probably the greatest cinema experience of my life. Seriously it was amazing. On his death, he let himself die. His mission was done and he was out. He could rest in peace. He could have easily continued if he wanted to.

I think the ending they went with was the best one. I'm glad the series got to conclude, and not just be draged along for too long. It's my favorite of the franchise. Wich is pretty cool since i was initaly disappointed when Chapter 3 ended in the same place that Chapter 2 ended. But this film was just pure perfection. A nealy 3 hour run time had me a bit worried. But i fealt every bit of it was justified. It's one of the best action movies i've ever watched. And i'm beyond happy with it. I also got the dedication to Lance at the end. Wich made me Happy to see. He was a great actor. And he was Fantastic in the role. It was really sad to see him die in the film. But from what i've heard, he was really proud of this film. So i think it was important to keep it as it was when he was happy with it. Can't wait to see the spin-offs. I hope they can keep up the quality that the series has reached.

I am not sure how he was mortally wounded. None of those hits were kill shots. Stomach left side, not right (liver) and too low for the lung, shoulder and arm. Immediate medical attention could of easily saved him. I won’t be surprised to see him show up in a spin off. Amazing movie by the way.

He chose to die and bleed out though. He asked Winston to take him home. With such a big focus on death, consequences, the never ending cycle of vengeance (as hinted in the post credit scene) throughout the film, it would cheapen everything in ch. 4 if they brought John back. Loved Keanu in the role, but they’ve tied up his storyline perfectly and set the stage for the other side characters to continue the story. I could see them doing prequels to have Keanu reprise his role. But having his death by final makes sense from a narrative perspective.

While Chad says he's dead, Keanu claims to think he's still alive. I'm kinda in the middle and am willing to believe either side, and I like that ambiguity. Especially since Winston's line in chapter 3 about John needing to decide to be Baba Yaga or continue to be John Wick, the who loved and was loved by his wife. So, you could make the claim that John lived and it was Baba Yaga that died.

For Lance Reddick made it into the ending of the cut I saw. I was pleasantly surprised, (that it made it), and explained to my movie buddy that Lance had died just a few days ago, and how impressed I was that the studio was able to add that in so quickly. I like the ambiguity of the ending. It can go either way, and we may find John in some podunk town in 10 years walking dogs at the local animal shelter.

This ending is perfect. In the first movie he was a man hellbent on revenge and was almost hoping to die in the process. And the last movie was him fighting to stay alive long enough to fix some of his more selfish actions. And then finally die at peace.

Phenomenal movie. I think it had the best ending the series could have planned for. They left it vague and subtle enough to have a "happy" ending for John. I hope the creators keep expanding the franchise with different characters but leave Wick to rest in peace, alive or dead.

I think the headstone reading “loving husband” is referring to that part of John that is now dead, only the killer remains. The dog looking off in a different direction I believe hints at his return

I'd say I would've preferred something like him being injured many times prior to the duel, playing the duel similarly to how it was, and when it ended, with a ragged John slumping on the stairs, it cuts to his eventual recovery but having lost something, like having his shooting hand/arm amputated due to the injuries, signifying he lost the hand/arm he used to kill lots of people and finally spend time with the dog and finally be able to go to sleep in a comfortable bed just like with Daisy in chapter 1 but this time with a warmer color filter and the pitbull at his side, just for them to wake up and walk into a warm sunrise and move on. Just a tiny fantasy. I really didn't want him to die, although it was foreshadowed with the "loving husband" comment to Winston. Man, that movie got me on the edge for almost three hours, and after the shock and the adrenaline, I cried, badly. It felt bad to have john go through all that shit to be free, to die alone and not being able to say goodbye to his dog. That said, I don't wish for them to deux ex bullshit machina revive him magically; it'd take all the impact away from this ending, but I really feel sad for him; And that's without counting the post-credits scene where it is pretty much clear Akira went for the kill against Caine, when he and his daughter were finally set free thanks to John. It leaves some emptiness in my heart.

I get the feeling that John is still alive, given his wound & all the times he fell from numerous high places especially in Chapter 3, John does deserve to rest but then why would they pan to his grave site even though he had asked to be taken home by Winston? Somehow I do believe there will be a chapter 5 being people have been known to fake their death & there's still certain issues to be resolved. Respect to Lance Reddick, I like many will miss him immensely being that he added so much to the story from it's inception. Here's hoping that there will be Chapter 5.

Honestly, my favorite part of any John wick movie is when him and the concierge both grab shotguns in the 3rd one and start murdering the shit out of people. Its extra funny when the concierge pushes up his glasses while his hand is shaking. Great scene, RIP Lance. Im going to watch The Wire now.

I'm kind of glad that we got the ending we did. John Wick had literally lost everything he had. His wife, his home, friends, the Continental. All he had left was 3 friends & his dog that he could leave with them. He had nothing left & nothing to live for. His revenge was complete & he was free from the High Table hunting him & freed his friend too. His life was complete. He didn't need to fight & kill anymore and could let go........ So he did. RIP John Wick

My theory is that this series takes place in purgatory and his wife dying was her moving on to heaven and John who lived a life of murder has to redeem himself by killing a bunch of bad dudes and sending them to hell. I developed this theory based on the fact that in all four films the extras seem unfazed by gunfire and go on like it’s not happening. When the hotel is blown up in New York it’s just kinda there in shambles later in the movie with no police tape or contstuction workers there. This could also explain why John can take such a ridiculous amount of damage

It'd be cool if they pull kind of like a Batman Beyond where John is actually alive, some kid out for revenge and revives the role of Baba Yaga and is trained by John. Then the big bad guy from the table is non other than Hugo Weaving.

As shocking Charon's death was, I think the story justified it narratively. It wasn't treated as a disposable death, and there was heavy implication afterwards. 1. His death makes Marquis such a loathsome and intimidating villain as he executes a major character with no way for Winston to retaliate. 2. His death symbolically represent the permanent loss of the half of the New York continental. 3. Pushes Winston to seek retribution by getting back the continental and setting up a deal which seals the death of the Marquis. 4. Thematically plays in later with how John Wick and Winston re-examine the relationships they formed from other people. Charon is a "Friend" and John is a "Loving Husband" 5. Thematically plays into the idea of martyrdom which is mentioned several times in the story. They spared Winston to not make him a martyr, instead the hightable unintentionally made Charon and John Wick one. As abrupt the character's death was, I think there is hidden depth to what his death means to the story.

Lance was a phenomenal actor and will be greatly missed. He had such a wide range of emotion and character in his performances, and he always connected with cast and crew. The first role I saw him play was Matthew Abaddon in ABC's Lost. It's still my favorite series of all time. I tend to follow the careers of the writers and cast just to see how they're doing now and what projects they're working on. I was so excited when I saw Lance as The Continental Concierge opening weekend for John Wick 1 way back in 2014. Having Lance in the cast for anything was truly a seal of quality; you felt the time, money, and effort was all worth it knowing that he was a part of it.

The reason I thing John could have survived is if you watch the scene with the doctor from chapter 3. The Doctor instructs John on how to shoot him and make it look good but not kill him. In the shoulder and to right of the stomach. Which is right where Caine precisely hit him and, of course, the flesh wound to the arm. In the bar, when Caine was talking they developed this plan. It's why Caine needed John to get to the church on time. And Winston putting the idea of being the one to kill John Wick. Playing to his ego of being the one to kill the bogeyman. 😮😊

I like the ending it currently has. Very reminiscent of Spike's ending in Cowboy Bebop(anime not Netflix series) . Both characters have a similar story and the ending is the peace they finally deserve... Aside from that I think we forget Keanu is 58, these stunts must be taking a toll on him. If this is the end I don't mind and if they do decide to do another I won't mind that either.

Charon's death didn't make sense to me until John's. Charon most of us know is named after the ferryman from Greek mythology. Charon's death meant John's was coming.

The John Wick film series is one of my all-time favorites. I get that they had to end it somewhere, but I was hoping for one more installment. While I was disappointed that he died, I wasn't disappointed by how he died. If they were going to do it, they at least did it well. I wish they would have left off the scene with Winston and the Bowery King at his grave, in case they wanted to leave the door open for another installment. RIP Lance Reddick.

Having learned of Lances death before seeing the movie made it extra hard to watch him die in the film. Lance was always a favorite of mine in everything I saw him in. His talent is legendary, as well as, his voice. The world will not be the same without him. I think they left the ending open to interpretation so you can decide if John is dead or not. Personally, I'd like to think he was still alive. I just don't want this series to end. It's amazing and Keanu Reeves is also a legend that I would love to see continue this legendary character. However, if they don't make a Chapter 5 then it's a great ending.
