Keanu Reeves was truly one our great students. If you enjoyed much of the judo in the Wick movies, you are welcome. It was a great honor teaching him and the stunt team the Collier Method of Judo. Keanu trained all day long-dedicated to become as proficient as possible in the combative style. Our style is not a sport style. It was developed for fighting close quarters in bars and other dark situations. We have a full range of strikes, as well as submission grappling-because there are no referees in bouncing and no rules in actual fighting. The official representatives of the Collier Method of Judo here on KZbin are the Collier Brothers (Josiah, Nikolas, and Jeremiah). The Collier Brothers not only had the honor to teach Keanu Reeves how to properly perform the suplex, among other throws, for John Wick 3: Parabellum, but they were given the great honor of performing some of their throws full speed on camera in a scene with Keanu Reeves and Academy Award Winning actress Anjelica Huston. The scene was designed to remind John Wick of his early training. We also had the pleasure of training Academy Award Winning actress Halle Berry and her stunt team for her part in John Wick 3. Halle worked hard and did a great job. The world famous Machado Brothers oversaw Keanu’s jiu-jitsu training-and they did an amazing job. It should be noted that Keanu Reeves also received an honorary black belt from the Kodokan for his judo work in John Wick. The black belt was presented by Japan’s 3X Olympic Gold Medalist Nomura Tadahiro. We’re all very proud of Mr.Reeves hard work which showed the beauty of judo to millions. We would like to especially thank Chad Stahelski & David Leitch, as well as all the very talented stuntmen and martial artists at 8711 Action Designi for giving us a chance to show the world the Collier Method of Judo!

Always love when new vids come out from this channel :)

It took me a while to find out the name of the first technique at 2:00. At first, I also tought it was some sort of an old school judo kani basami variant or a yoko guruma variant. It is actually a vertical BJJ flower sweep. It's called ''Jumping/flying flower/pendullum/Estima sweep'' depending on who's teaching it. One of the few eye candy BJJ takedown techniques and rarely known or taugh.

Good intels like that are the reason why i pay internet. Thank you Chadi! I agree with you about the importance of the correct names when talking about the techniques. When i was in Aikido i wasn't able to advance for a while because i knew how to apply the techniques but i didn't remember the names when the Sensei asked for them. In terms of japanese martial arts the names are very self explaning. It really helped me to remember the techniques when i learned their names, it also helped to know better when to apply them. By the way, i'm about to start Judo next month, already enlisted for the class and it start's day 2. I have been training Muay Thai and FADDA BJJ in the past month, but i found that the claim that the FADDA's Jujutsuka is able to withstang a Judoka or Wrestler in stand up by the FADDA's is just arrogance. Their politics of training throws and takedowns is train for it just in the last month prior to championships or graduatian exams. I can't stand sitting down and moving my ass on the ground in a fight. So, goodbye BJJ, Muay Thai and Judo here i come! Hope we can randori together one day my friend. Stay safe and keep up the good work!

Really enjoyed this Chadi, thank you ! I think the very first 'western' movie to include Judo was a 1945 move starring James Cagney called 'Blood on the Sun'; like the last Samurai it's set in Japan. Apparently Cagney was an actual Judo Black Belt. The opening Judo scene is pretty average (probably sub par really) , but later on in the movie there's an epic fight lasting several minutes between Cagney and another. I think the whole movie is up on youtube, but I can't comment on the quality. Don't expect too much given the year of production.

@SoldierAndrew 3 жыл бұрын
That's actually my favorite action movie of all time. Watched it numerous times. The final fight scene is against Mr Cagney's real life Judo instructor who was also a Los Angeles California police officer before becoming an actor/stuntman/fight coordinator. Mr Cagney was a real life golden glove boxer and Judo blackbelt, which he displays both arts very well in the final fight scene. Being the style of Judo displayed in the film was prior to the Imperial Japanese 2nd World War Pacific Campaign it's interesting to see they frequently used prewar Judo atemi strikes in the film. First on the ship during the chase, then in the fight scene at the residence during the attempt to arrest Cagney and finally in the final fight. There's another film, starring Humphrey Bogart, Tokyo Joe it may have been called, had an outstanding Judo fight scene between Boghart and his Japanese friend. Judo is making a comeback in action films.

At 6:44 (or a bit earlier), yes: it is an Irimi Nage. He uses the hand with the gun to make the throw. And yes, you are right: he holds the other hand in a Kote Gaeshi lock. But that does not make it a Kote Gaeshi, as that hand is not doing the throw, but only controls.

Your explanation about Shiho nage is unfortunately wrong :P First of all, you only make one step in on direction, and do not go into 4 different directions. The term is super simple. It is derived from a sword exercise, that is called Shi Ho Giri, aka: cutting into 4 directions. As the throw mimics parts of the Shi Ho Giri movements, it is called Shi Ho Nage.
