This was SO helpful! I’m self taught, this is my 3rd season, I’m in love with snowboarding! But I hardcore favor my heel side, because I feel more comfortable that way, I catch my toe edge a lot, when switching. I really want to get better & have smoother transitions from heel to toe. I think my problem was not un-weighting my board when switching to toe side. This helped me so much! I saw a world of difference implementing these tips! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you sm! 🤙🏼🏂

just started riding again after just over 11 years of not riding. i’m 36 now lol. like i never rode which is disappointing since i grew up as a skatepark rat lol. had so much trouble with my toe side edge yesterday at gunstock in NH. i can slide heal side stop heal side turn heal side but toe side !!???? welllllll i ended up screwing up my toe side turn catching my heal side edge and smashing my head lol. ski patrol gave me a check up and a curtesy ride down lol. needless to say i need some serious practice. just ordered my red helmet sticker though to remind me to keep going and to not give up lol. and it will look super dope at least as it’s bouncing backed the mountain with my head inside haha. thanks for all the content and tips brother !

Hi Jonathan, I’m still a beginner so always love seeing these videos (as well as you and Roman smashing it)! One thing I found helpful with my toe side turns was after unweighting the turn from my heels, focus on pushing my hips forward to lock in the new toe edge.
@ss117333 жыл бұрын
last season was my first season and I never got good at toe side! This tip about unweighting the board might be the answer for me! I've noticed how people on youtube are doing a smooth gradual transition between heel and toe edge, and that step in the middle might help me have control. Somehow I manage to fall backward usually and it sucks!!

How do you handle speed when on toe edge and switching from heal edge to toe edge with that speed? How do you not catch and edge with a lot of speed and not face plant in the snow when your switching?

remember to lean forward because beginners and people learning to ride switch can get uncomfortable or scared linking turns so they lean back and that makes it harder to grab an edge
@ss117333 жыл бұрын
yes it sure fricking does make it harder. I think this season I'm going to try exaggerating my lean forward until I get the hang of it. Better than falling backward!

I can transfer from edge to edges connecting my turns on the green runs but as soon as i step up in difficulty working into blues its like i forget everything and end up side slipping my way down. On blues I feel like i get locked into position and can't transfer from turn to turn then get spooked resulting into side slipping till the run mellows out.

How do you avoid the trap of straightening out your back foot on your toe side turn. I just had an issue where I pulled my hamstring and my calf muscle while doing (old age 👎🏼) but it’s the way I’ve always done it.

I usually just go board every 2-3 years, full send, crash, figure out maybe I did something wrong, try to correct, then keep bombing and crashing. But then by the time I next board in another 2-3 years, I forget 😂

How do you unweight the edges exactly between turns? do you take a tiny hop?
@JohnathanBuckhouse2 жыл бұрын
Not a pop because you don’t want the board to leave the ground but you can think of it as a rock or a pump between edge changes.
@F1derful.11 ай бұрын
Just stand up a split second to unweight and bend you knees again when you initiate the next turn

Hey, new to snowboarding, quick question. When you’re going from heal side to toe or toe to heal or just in general is one foot doing the same as the other or do they work separately… hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for the awesome videos!
@bombrman19943 жыл бұрын
You need to learn the twisting, I use twisting imagine how tanks turn left and right. The chains ⛓ rotate opposite to each other to turn left and right and it’s the same thing exactly with snowboarding. I am learning too next week is my third time

I understand the toe stop and heel stop, I guess further information on how you are going side to side while going straight down
@JohnathanBuckhouse Жыл бұрын
So you start not going straight and as you get more comfortable you start to point your nose down the fall line till you have the skills to go straight down. Slow progression.

What do you mean by unweighting your snowboard? Also what’s your favorite run at copper?
@JohnathanBuckhouse3 жыл бұрын
I don’t really have one at copper but unweighting your turn mean stop applying pressure to an edge, almost popping but your never leave the ground. Like if you were to fake just like a basketball player pumping a shot

Be in a position almost like you are about to sit down on a chair 🪑
@dpj94213 жыл бұрын
@@JohnathanBuckhouse Hi Jon, thank you! But I also understand we shouldn't be overly sitting on a chair position, nor should we be sitting down and arching our back to a point where we are lifting our chest up while sitting which makes the weight Outside of the board.... its so confusing and difficult
@JohnathanBuckhouse3 жыл бұрын
A lot of it comes with just practice. It you keep catching your toe side edge you are standing up to tall. That’s why I said pretend to sit. You are right you don’t want to be in that position all the time but until you find the balance pint on that heal side edge you might have to be more hunched. It just takes practice! Keep ripping and you will have it in no time 🤘🏼

People always say Heel to Toe turn is harder, but I am more scared of Toe to Heel. When I am transitioning from Toe to Heel I'm more afraid of falling due to not being able to see my back. For Heel to Toe I'm not as scared of falling because I have knee pad and wrist guard, plus I can react faster since I can see everything. And it is easier to check if there are people coming from behind when doing Heel to toe. Or maybe my posture is bad cuz my Toe to Heel side require more strength on my knee for the back leg.
@canadianbacon54743 жыл бұрын
Same
@jwin_2 жыл бұрын
For me, I think Heel to Toe is scarier bc I'm afraid that if I am transitioning to my toes (and my face is facing the slope), I'll fall backwards and hit the back of my head and won't be able to break my fall.
