I dedicated a full day only connecting my turns on toe side. It wasnt funn but I remembered something my instructor told me on my first lesson ever, don't be afraid to touch the snow. Turns out I have more balance when I'm low and just about touching for the snow when I reach.

one drill that i’ve learned helps is getting on your toe edge on a slope, back facing downhill and front facing up- ride that edge and leaf it down for a few yards then turn into your heel edge and turn back uphill, it helped me get confident on my toes

I caught my first bad edge riding a black diamond for my second time. Transitioning from heel side to toe side on one of my last runs for the day. Two front flips driving my balled fist into my rib thought I broke it but it ended up just being bruised nonetheless it hurt to breathe and made my back hurt for like 3 weeks. Really was demotivated after this happened and destroyed my confidence. What it actually did though was made me seek more information and want to learn more technique so I can avoid it happening again by staying focused and using every bit of knowledge I can seek out. The smash the bug ideology for some reason really clicks with me and allows me to focus on what im doing and how im applying pressure with that lead foot and how im applying my body weight while transitioning. Watched so many videos trying to figure out what my mistake was so I can avoid this and realized watching ur video I was just leaning my body weight into my toe side without smushing the bug with my lead foot basically skipping from step 1st step to the 3rd step thanks man! Great content 👌🏼

I shall report back with progress. I've technically been snowboarding for 15 years... but I live in North Carolina and only actually get to ride a few days each winter,. And it's mostly ice round these parts. I'm determined to get my toe edge mastered this year because my glutes and hammies may revolt otherwise.

Hey @jonathanbuckhouse I always seem to catch an edge going straight. A lot of videos cover turns, but sometimes you have to go straight because you're on a narrow path, and that's when I normally hit an edge. Any tips. Keep up the good work. 👍 I'll fire you over some sticker picks when I get up the mountain in January 👌
@BroadButts2 жыл бұрын
there are a bunch of vids covering straight line stability. I'm pretty sure Jonathan has even done one or two. What i've seen, and what really works for me, is keeping your weight centered more over your leading foot(like, 60-70%front foot, 30-40% back foot weight distribution). This helps with keeping the board front heavy and also assists with turn initial turn engagement. Another big factor is maintaining a slight lean on either heal or toeside edge in order to keep one of the edges engaged enough to prevent swiveling which is very easy to run into if you attempt to flat base a run and don't have proper body alignment over the board. Obviously it's important that holding an edge for running straight is subtle enough that it doesn't cause you to go into a turn and more often than just just keeping your knees bent can be enough to hold your toeside edge during the straights.

I'm noob myself so somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but you should first lift your toes with your front foot (so still on toes with back foot) and THEN lift your toes with your back foot. So basically make use of torsional twist!!

On day 3 of learning to snowboard and I’m not bad at big toe side turns. My problem is trying to tighten up the turns to be faster and I keep catching my heel edge when I go back from toes to heels. Think I need to work on more knee steering to turn the front of the board rather than engage my whole heel side edge too quickly?? Hope to get it down soon.

This is right outside of Manhattan (New Jersey side). Right beside the New York Jets Stadium. It's the second largest mall in the US and I believe it's the only indoor snowboarding trail in the US. It's an amazing place, but there's one blue trail only (The one you saw on this video). And that blue trail feels like a green trail with the exception of the fact that there's no flat surface.

hey johnathan! been a viewer of this channel for about a year or so now since i started snowboarding last season, i've only made it out a few times but this year i plan on going once or twice a week. My only problem with snowboarding so far is that my feet are in pain usually after a few runs, its on the inner part of both of my feet, a sharp-ish pain below the big toe area/middle of my feet. I have two different boots and they've both gave me the same problem and the pain has prevented me from continuing my days on the mountain which is a bummer because i could go so much longer if i wasn't having this pain. i'm a pretty healthy 23 year old male with no prior feet problems, just curious if you know what could be causing the issue! side note: burton lace boots size 11, and k2 raider boots size 11, 11.5 were too big and 10.5 were too small. I also have a pair of mid-arch sidas insoles and a heat mold on the k2 raider boots but still have encountered this problem even from the very first time riding.

You need to use your hips to shift your weight instead of flexing your feet. If you stand in riding position but without your board, knees slightly bent and shift your hips back, it’ll naturally make you press more onto your heels and opposite is true for toes. The hip movement naturally transfers to your calf/shin area which pushes your boots front or back and helps shift your weight without needing to use your foot muscles. I am a beginner and although I’m aware of how this works I still end up doing it on toe side when I start off sometimes. Correct boot size and sock thickness could also make a difference I think.

If you're comparing blue trails vs green then yes. I tend to fall a lot more in green trails than I do in blue. In fact I rarely fall off in blue trails. It's much easier to control yourself with momentum.
