Paul's name was linked to Ben Grimm/The Thing a few months ago. Did he audition for Ben, not get that role, but they give him this one instead; OR, was he always auditioning for this role but speculation thought he was up for Ben? If it's the latter, then maybe his role is major since they were talking to him for a few months. If it's the former, maybe they liked his audition and though he wasn't right for Ben, they still wanted to work with him so they gave him another (possibly smaller since he's so in demand) role.

Chris, I think the more accurate definition that people use for the term 'reboot' is 'make popular again' This means a sequel, prequel, remake, spin-off, etc. can all be a reboot if it is no longer popular and they are trying to bring it back.

I think if they do The Maker it should be Pedro or one of the other Reed actors. I think it would be a great redemption for Ioan Gruffudd in the comic book movie realm. Puppet Master was my first thought though for Paul just because something like Mole Man is too obvious and a little more of a silly character for someone in the middle of their career blowing up.

My issue with the Maker idea is that I have another way that I hope they take that character. If this Fantastic Four comes to the MCU from another reality, then I'd love to see the Maker be OUR Reed Richards. I think that would shake things up in a really fun way. Especially when it comes to his relationship with Doom. You could place Doom as someone between the two Reeds. I think that could be super cool, but it wouldn't make any sense to introduce both Doom and the Maker in the first movie. I'm not sure that introducing even one of them makes sense since Galactus is the big bad anyway. As for the other choices, I don't really know. I have no idea who this guy is so it's hard to guess who he'd be best for. One thing about HERBIE, though: while it might seem like a small role within the confines of the Fantastic Four, it could lead to greater things down the line. Because if they do introduce the Maker at a later time, imagine how his version of HERBIE could look like. Evil HERBIE sounds like a really fun role to play, and something you'd want an award-winning actor for.

It will likely be a Mole Man vs F4 skirmish at the start of the film to set up what's going on. Later Silver Surfer shows up befote Galactus. The Galactus battle will somehow cast the the F4 will be cast into the 616 universe. No Doom.
