you Sir are correct you had the TH 350 and the TH 400 back then and now days you can get a Gear Vendors overdrive to make the TH 400 happy on the highway. The GV overdrive is pretty popular with the drag week folks so its been run under drag conditions and high HP. thumbs up on your comment

Perfectly fine. I daily drive 67 camaro...high h.p. BBC, t-400 with reverse manual valve body, trans brake, 4200 stall, dana 60 rear w/4.56 gears. Yes...im kinda pushing it with gears, but i dont scream down thruways. I love it, and the brake with that stall and gears is a blast to drive. Plus i have a 31x16.5 tire...(minitub), so it makes a hell of a launch at the track. Only thing i would suggest, would of course be a flywheel and case shield. Ive seen trannys blow before with a brake....and not a pretty site. I dont know how well there stock cases are...but dont want to find out what can happen. I want to keep my accelerator foot and leg. Dont know what id do without it. Although i am going to get g.v. overdrive so i can drive to further tracks no trailer. But t-400...yes..probly would never go any other route. Ive had them in probly 90% of vehicles, cars and trucks. Love 'em. John...keep screaming man...love the car and setup. You ever going to slip a Big Block in there...lol.

Awesome car! The TH400 or (turbo 400 for short) absorbs a little bit of power yet handles a robust amount of torque and some abuse with some mods. i am like to use the ford C4 behind a windy small block. The TH400 is a real tuff transmission when it's weaknesses are eliminated. Just add a gear vendors over under drive. The results are an insane overdrive transmission with stacked close ratio gear ratios without the problems of other overdrive transmissions. The ride is killer. Just check out this one 2nd gen on youtube it has a gear vendors unit and not much power compared to other internet builds, however the car responds immensely with the TH400 and a gear vendors unit and performs at a level higher than normal because it is always in peak powerband. Very thrilling to watch.

If you had a GM truck or v-8 car from 1965 into the 1990's with a 3 speed automatic it was a turbo 350 or a turbo 400 (aka 3L80). You know, back before cell phones.

Of course you can daily drive a th400...I had it in my high school 70 Camaro! It was a 406 SBC with 64cc camel hump heads and a Holly 850, th400, and a 12 bolt rear end with first 3.73 and later 4.11 ratio final drive! True I didnt have a huge stall on mine, but it was very street able, and I don't think I ever overheated it! Oh and it also ran mid to high 11s all day!

How tall is your tire, and what gear ratio and stall speed? Why not a built 4L80E so that you don’t have to be at 3000+ rpms at 70mph? Yes it’s heavier and cost more, but it can hold the power. Electronic shift with a D3 transbrake and triple disk converter and you’ll be at much lower RPM at 70+ mph and better gas mileage no?

Blew up 4 C4's in my fuel injected 438Windsor 68 mustang. Now my tranny guy bldg a bulletproof th400. Said it will take 1200hp and i won't be dropping trans every year again. Take it from me and don't waste any money on a built c4 for anything over 400wheel. I don't give a shit what anyone says it wont last long in a radical street car. My last c4 had all the goodies and still got toasted after 500 miles of hard street driving. Fluid was burnt and clutches and bands shot and metal all over. 438Windsor only makes around 680hp, so nothing freaky. Plus its all motor. People will tell you they can build you badass c4 for hot street car but it won't last the long haul guaranteed. Unless of course you don't mind dropping trans every year...fck that. Do a th400 and be done with it. New copo camaro and cobra jet both run th400. My car weighs 3k lbs so i went th400 instead of glide. Glide is better in lighter and real high powered cars like 800-1k wheel.

Great video I also have fifth generation ZL one Camaro. Swapped out to a TH 400. It made 1000 rear wheel horsepower. With a circle D tort inverter. What did you do for the speed sensor because my computer thinks it doesn't have a transmission. I havewheel sensors that give me speed on the dashboard but my computer doesn't understand what's going on lol. Is there some type of module I can use for this car that I can plug into the sensors to send the signal back to the computer that has a transmission.

Pre 1982, most autos were 3 speed and no overdrive. I thought 4 speed auto on my corvette was heaven sent back in 84! But three speed auto was all business going to second gear in WOT only to be shift back to 1:1 ratio third the rest of the way.

Hey do you downshift th400 from 3rd to 2nd at higher speeds on street like 40-60mph, or do you wait till almost stopped before downshifting full manual rvb t400. I was told never downshift till almost stopped. And you need pro mod drum too. Just curious how you downshift th400 and what advice you can give me. I destroyed my 2nd gear steel drum sprag in 2 days cause i didn't know not to downshift unless almost stopped. My tranny guy installing pro mod aluminum drum now. Hopefully no more failures. Do you still downshift 3rd to 2nd at 40-60mph?.I was told to keep foot on throttle with 3rd to 2nd downshifts and never coast in 1st or 2nd. But what good is streetcar if you can't downshift. How's your t400 holding up with 3rd to 2nd downshifts on the street. Any tips thanks.

What gears are you running? Back in the day when TH400 was plentiful and came in most cars, they had high gear ratios and speed limit on the highway was only like 55 max. TH400 and deep gears at 80 MPH on the highway is a no go.

You only need a loose converter when you don't have low end torque. With a turbo , not a problem.

No problem. The one you have fun with on the highway is the old granny low with 3 drive gears manual. Those things your stuck at about 55-60 on the highway. Had a 76 Dodge d300 1 ton. Plus it also depends on your rear end gearing. If your a 4:10 rear you'll be around 60 but if your 3:55s or 3:73s you usually ok for the highway

Fun fact...a stock th400 will mainly shift it's self at like 4,500-5,000 rpms if you leave it in 1st...and it will shift to 2 and to 3...where a stock th350 will not shift if u don't shift it....this is if you have a stock th400...if it's got a shift kit it want do it...its called the shift governor...also a stock th400 out of a diesel shifts at 3500..i know some master trans builder will chime in so I'll let him explain the rest...dont believe do some reading

My 67 c10 327 has a th400. Runs great on highway with sidepipes droning nicely. Temp is dead on in middle of summer so don't worry you won't get it hot. Yours is more modern. Mine is 55 years old and STOCK they came with trans coolant lines

I run a 4k coan converter, tci th400 streetfighter 3.70 gears and a gear vender. Wouldn't be without the o.d. love it. The next move is full manual with a t brake. Constant foot breaking at the track is too much work. And want the higher line pressure for better shifting

Manual shift TH400? No, it works like a normal auto because IT IS. Unless you put a reverse manual valve body in it like yours. I would much rather daily a TH400 or a Ford C6 3 speed auto than any of these new transmissions. The are far more reliable, and will take a lot more abuse than most people will admit. If you put a big cooler on it to keep it cool they will never die. But The 400 wasnt all there was. The 2 speed powerglide was a very popular transmission for rag racing for a long time. The TH350 and Ford C4s are also good transmissions. Or if you're into Mopar stuff the 727 tourqeflite was great.

A full manual valve body conversion is something else entirely. I think that's the point of the video, the title is a little misleading. My truck is an LS 6.0, 4L80e with a reverse pattern manual valve . Not for everyone.
