As a step dad to an energetic and carefree son and also being a step child I can say that I have and continue to do my best. I love my son with everything in me and even saying he is my step son sounds strange. I've been dad since he was an infant and I can honestly say that I would give everything and anything for him up to and including my life. The only good thing my real father ever did for me was tell me this "whatever you do, do it out of love". That's stuck with me and I keep that in the back of my mind at all times with matters concerning my boy. I hope this might be beneficial for some of you young fathers and fathers to be out there. Be strong gentlemen. The world needs more good dads involved in their kids lives. Much love. God Bless!

Sweetie, just remember it’s not you. This is so common that so many kids, even us, have to clear the gauntlet of drama, to be born. So many of our friends talk about our kids & most were scheduled for abortions or the drs. were telling them, to get rid of one or two pregnancies and we lose some & some by divine intervention, are born & survive. I always say, you are now in control of being an incredible parent to give your family so much love & stability so all of you can flourish together! Lots of Love, Hugs & Blessings! 😘🇺🇸💖🥰

By the way, I had a biological father but he was so messed up, he was a lot beating on my Mom & us, too. There were good times but lots of tense & walking on egg shells times. Neighbors would call the police on multiple occasions. After he got caught cheating & divorce and all that. I didn’t talk to him for 7 years. My siblings still don’t talk to him & maybe it’s been 16 years by now. I’ve reconciled with him & even said Happy Father’s Day to him today. He’s regretted his foolish choices. We live in a very broken world where hurt people go on to hurt other people, especially those closest to them. We can make the choice to love our neighbors as ourselves, as Jesus has said. Note the love yourself part so no, you’re not a doormat and not to be exploited. Love God, your self, your family, your community, your world & take good care of it and the world will already be a much better place! 💖🙏🇺🇸🥰

As a woman who’s father abandoned her and her mother, this is what I remember growing up: I was in first grade so I don’t remember a lot of what happened immediately after he left, but I do remember moving to a bad part of a new city, ( cheap apartments) my mom working long shifts at the local fast food place, we didn’t have much food as most the money went to rent and car maintenance, since she was gone a lot I was left to my own devices. I don’t know what sparked the rebelliousness but I didn’t make friends in the new school, I was bullied, couldn’t afford lunch a lot of the time so I sat alone, oftentimes hungry ( couple times I remember being given food from other kids). I didn’t go on any field trips as we didn’t have money if it was needed and she’d forget to sign the slips ( or I wouldn’t give them to her🤔). I started skipping school. IN FIRST GRADE. I would hang out with other kids in the apartments, we would vandalize the complex with sharpie. My grades were non existent really, I wouldn’t do the work; had no school work ethic. Some night she would drag me out til three in the morning while she was hanging out with the wrong sort of people... doing things no child should see...even though I did; also doing things no child should do... even though I did. The real moment of clarity for my mom was when we were in a packed car: her in passenger and I in the middle backseat between two other people. The guy to my right had a handgun and accidentally shot it within the car. The bullet went right through the head rest and through my moms hair. I remember the first thing I did was grab my ears as it was so loud. At that moment she woke up and knew I shouldn’t be in this environment; she shouldn’t be in this environment. So she sent me to live with my grandparents so she could sort her life out. Although she wanted me to move back a year later, I decided to stay, all the way through graduation. I had moved from three schools and hated meeting new kids and I felt safe in this new stable environment. I was lucky that I wasn’t pulled so far into the mindset of the reality we were stuck in. Two and a half years of rebellion, no friends and no mental motivation... it was the perfect moment I left, otherwise who knows how my life would have turned out. Rest assure I graduated high school and went off to college and now am married, living comfortably as can be with loads of college debt that my husband and I are determined to pay off lol But I don’t regret any of my past, and I made sure to let my mom know. If our past happened differently I may not be where I am today, a college graduate? A married woman with conservative values? Have a stable and fulfilling career? These days I see my mom almost every weekend 😩 not including the times she makes surprise visits banging on the door at 7 to go shopping. ( we live close ) We have a better relationship now than we would have had if I would have stayed in that environment, I’m sure of it. I like to look at us as proof that even at your lowest, poor, defeated, even fatherless, you can still make it. It’s hard, but when you truly want something, you make it happen. I’ve learned to never think like a victim, to never settle for less , and to not let being fatherless define who I am today. I can’t say enough how everything mentioned in this video is so very true and alive in single parent households, especially fatherless ones. So any fatherless teens watching this video, know that your future is not defined, you may not have a father but you have every opportunity at your disposal to make your life as you see fit. Yes, it may be difficult and sometimes relentlessly riddled with set backs ( like mine) but you will get through it. By the way, if you are watching this then you’re already making good, conscious decisions in your life and don’t let them stop there. 🤞🏼

This video may be almost a year old, but I still want to comment. I lost my dad when I was 11 years old, it'll be 20 years this February. Despite losing him at a rather important time in my growing up, I did everything in my power to be a good man. I did stumble along the way, as trying to navigate middle school and high school without him while dealing with puberty was rough to say the least, but I feel I've come out the other end better off than most. People who disregard fathers, whether they be children, mothers, or have sired children and don't want anything to do with them have no idea how much pain it can cause. And losing them permanently hurts even more so.

Fathers genuinely are important to a child’s development. My father however, has never been there for me for anything unless it benefited him. I am fortunate enough to have a mother and grandmother, along with other family members, that tried to teach me the things necessary to become a functioning adult male, who can provide for his future family properly. I try not to use fatherlessness as an excuse to be less successful and that is why I believe these videos are important in shining a light on the issues fatherless boys and girls alike face, and help them understand the problems they may face, but how they are not crippled by them, and should strive to achieve in-spite of it. Thank you John Doyle making a difference.

I lost my dad a few weeks before Father’s Day four years ago. ( I was 13) That was when the media tried to push the idea that dads are useless and deadbeat and moms can do it all themselves. Hearing that right after the death of my dad, the one who took care of us and our house, no matter his physical condition.. I was absolutely livid. After he died, my mom had to take in more nursing shifts, I had to be a second mom to my little sister, and my brother couldn’t deal with a job mentally anymore. I became introverted, insanely self conscious, and my grades had never been the same. I can’t open up to people like I used to. My dad was my strength and hope, and the one who encouraged me and pushed me to stand up for myself. His death decimated our lives for so long, and I don’t think we’ll ever feel as whole as we did before. So to those piece of shit people who say that good fathers don’t matter, that good fathers are unimportant and useless.. screw you. And happy late Father’s Day.

@@winter.soldier721 A few years ago, there was a “f*** Father’s Day” movement that grew traction and it had been started by feminist icons. My biological father left before I was even born. I grew up in poverty. I struggle with depression and hold a grudge I do not wish to bare on my biological father. The absence of a father destroys children growing up, and leaves them at a severe disadvantage. I would not wish the life I had on anyone, but I am glad to call my life my own. I grew very close with my mom, and unfortunately have a rough time treating either of my step fathers (mom married, divorced, and remarried) as a true father. It’s very tormenting as a 19 year old man who’s lived his entire life this way to not be able to let go and forgive someone who was never even there.

I this is an old video, but it popped up in my main page and it couldn’t have came at a strange and sad time in my life at the moment, because my Dad is in the hospital right now and fighting for his life against an infection in his level that keeps making him sick with high fevers. At his age of 71 now, it terrifies me, a regular 37 year old guy in Chicago Illinois that’s working 5 days a week during a “pandemic” and “civil unrest”. I love my Dad very much, even if I never got to go out and do a lot of fun father and son things as a kid. He would always be at work busting his ass 6 and sometimes 7 days of the week, every single year that I can remember since the day I was born, just so he could have a roof over our heads, food and things that I loved growing up like action figures and video games. My mom worked sometimes too, but when she didn’t have a job, she would be at home taking care of me, along with my 2 older sisters who would sometimes baby sit me when my mom would work. My Dad was a hard working man, who also fought in Vietnam back in the day, some time around the late end of the 1960’s. The most interesting thing about my Dad serving in Vietnam was also knowing that my Grandfather from my Mom’s side, fought in World War II as an Air Force Pilot. Sadly the Military line was severed because I didn’t join the U.S Military, I didn’t feel like it was my destiny, I just wanted to find other things to do with my young life, and during my time alive, I don’t have no regrets. I have made both mistakes and good things happen. Even though the military skipped a generation with me, my nephew is a U.S Marine now at this moment living in San Diego California. So I’m not complaining, in fact I am very proud of my nephew, he sadly lost his father in a sudden tragedy when he was only 4 years old and after that I tried to be in his life as much as I could to help him grow up and relate to this crazy and unpredictable world that we all find ourselves in, and I was there for him and still keep in touch with him. (God I went so off track lol). I bring all this up because this video specifically showed up on my KZbin main page at a very sad point in my life now as my Dad is in the hospital right now 😔, it almost feels like a message from GOD The Creator, or just a strange coincidence. I’ve gone on with this message long enough and just want to say “I Love You Dad” with all my heart and always will, I always understood why you never had time to play video games with me as a kid or take me out to basketball, football or baseball games, you didn’t have to, you gave me a very good life because you worked so damn hard for me to have that good life, and for that, I’ll always love and respect you. My Dad is a strong man that has been through so much crap in his life, that I do feel like he will fight this and survive, I keep praying that he will. Thank You everyone, and especially John Doyle for this “Father’s Day” video. My story and this video are a major reason why Fathers Matter, and every child should have a good one that takes care of them.

These statistics are frightening and depressing. Some of them are well-known by the general public for a long time now, such as the connections with teen pregnancy and prison inmates, but boys are falling behind in academics and the rates of sexual abuse are catastrophic. I know that the problems that fatherless young boys face are omitted from too many conversations (especially in gynocentric and/or radically liberal environments). My husband grew up without his father in the home, and he had many of those problems. I grew up mostly without mine, and could have easily had 'daddy issues'. I still feel an emptiness when I see little girls with their dads, because of what I missed then.
