Listened to these at the Paris HiFi show with my wife, who absolutely fell in love with their sound. Without doubt it is a fun, engaging, open and very dynamic speaker. Despite all the super highend stuff at the show, which I don't think were demo'd very well, the JBLs were the sound of the show. Had a great chat with the JBL rep there too, a super nice guy.

I've got a pair in the bedroom. I've got them on Monoprice Moniliths . I have them laying horizontal on the stands. I am listening to them while laying down on a Floyd platform bed. Did an upgrade from the 4309s and an Arcam SA20. Got a CD transport going into the coaxial. Got the M3 MacBook Pro going into the usb. Got 4430s in the living room. PS. Rug Grabbers from Amazon on the stands before laying the wood sides of the JBLs onto the stands. Literally a game changer for stand mounted speakers. Stick the rug grabber adhesive side down the the stand. Let the speaker rest on the foam. Literally solid as a rock .

The nines are VERY good, I've owned those 3 times, wish I had kept a set around, I will give credit to the focal alpha 80s which replaced those with and controlling those with a Peachtree preamp, they are as good as the nines, honestly I'd say the focals edge them out by a bit, especially without having to download an app, I do love the nines pretty equal to the alphas though, close matchup@@joncruz

Thanks John, there is something special about large stand mounts! I definitely like the idea of the inputs going into the master speaker rather than both. I also love the JBL blue baffle with wood surround, I agree the stands let them down a little. On aesthetics, in my opinion the best looking active at the moment has to go to the Super Wax Mini by Pitt & Giblin, drop dead gorgeous, I'm hoping to get a demo soon. The LS60 are in Portugal. Thanks for mentioning the music you listened to. Ever so often I find gems that I love to bits! Add-on to this video: - The JBL 4329P are also available in white - The Buchardt comparison might be rather A10 (also having digital amps/ PowerDACs) than A500 in my opinion - I agree that the compression tweeter and classic ported paper cone woofer are a refreshing alternative to the Buchardts or passive speakers that are lively - JBL could easily scale this speaker up to a 12 inch + big horn (still two-way) with the same electronics. We'll see if they ever do.

Hello John, first I wanted to just say thank you for your work. I was sick the last week and simultaneously addicted to your channel. I'm not a big hifi guy, but I do like good sound and I love your taste in music and have been constantly shazam-ing the shit out of your videos. I'm really glad about all the music I found thanks to your videos. On my sickbed, I had a video idea, something that I would quite enjoy, but of course do not know whether it makes sense for you to make or not. I'll leave it here anyway. You talk a lot about how judging something or comparing it to something else based on memory doesn't make sense -- which I totally agree to. But I think audio memory is something beautiful. I used to have a pair of ATL Hans Deutsch loudspeakers and I do not know whether they're good or bad, but I love to think about them and their 'amazing soundstage' (which I have no proof for) and mainly the music I listened to on them. You made this one video where you put together a hifi system that you used to own. Here is my suggestion: Why not revisit systems you used to listen to in a similar manner, and with them the music you listened to on them, and in such a way re-examine your memories? Find out where your memory is sentimental, where it is accurate and what you think about these aspects (the systems and the music) today, side to side to new gear that you currently actually review. I can see how this is an awful lot of work. But I would love to watch something like this and I would love to go down memory lane in terms of music with you. Don't know, just wanted to leave that here. Have a great day.

For the people who wait patiently for an all in one. HDF cabinets with a great transducer choice complimented with hi end cross overs. Then coupled with high end class D amplification. All bundled with the software to make living without extra gear easy? I’ll keep waiting and watching the offerings. This is an evolutionary period in component building. How great do you make it without being better than single components.

7 degrees - may be a way to reduce standing waves? (in rooms with parallel walls and speakers positioned at 90 degrees to a wall). This angle also generates a time shift between tweeter and MR/woofer (where is the cross-over frequency?) The latter is important, because music has zero pure sine waves. Our ears and hearing provide a network of wave shape analysis and this is how we can distinguish a piano's 440 Hz (it's "A4" which is the A above central C - in contemporary tuning) from a violin playing the same note (base frequency). This means that a 440Hz tone has wave shape defining parts at much higher frequencies. These can get separated from each other in e.g. a crossover filter and need to get together in phase in our ears again. When you shift these frequency aspects in time, you change the character of a voice/instrument and ruin the perception of soundstage. So the 7 degrees may seem a funny reference to Kevin Bacon, but I would take them extremely seriously with these boxes. L-R digital link. Yes, 3m is a Pain In The Anatomy. That should have been 5m and you could have routed the cable properly. They're using 8+1 lead twisted pair connectors. It struck me that the 3-point AC input connectors have no "ground" so "neutral" doubles as ground. The question is if the digital inputs "float" relative to the following circuits. There are a few consequences here: in a Schuko or US AC connector situation, make sure that both speakers are properly AC phase aligned (live/neutral - L/N - orientation) as there's no guarantee that all your wall outlets have the same L/N orientation. Also, if you were to buy a longer digital link cable, I would try to assess if there is a difference between different "CAT" levels and different levels of shielding. Note that shielding means there is a "ground" connection between left and right, not just "signal". Shielding in twisted pair cables can be "unshielded", one shield for the 4 pairs, a shield per pair, and maybe there is a version where the shielded pairs have a shield added for the entire bundle. If the shields are not "grounded" (to something akin to "earth") then they may float and remain a broadcasting and receiving antenna. Wireless - I would not go there, personally. With cables, I may get higher bandwidth and may suffer less from interference and do not have to share "ether" with other users of the same frequency (band). If I only listened to synthetic music, I probably would not care, though. Ugly stands. I would have a seamstress make "tube dresses" for them from very stretchy fabric in a colour of my preference, and put these "dresses" on/over the stands. Then I'd try to route the cables through that, or a separate "sleeve", to the floor as well. As these are "studio monitors" they are designed as "tools" and "design" was no part of the design brief. The horn-loaded tweeter probably to large extent prevents cabinet coloration so if that does not happen, it doesn't need to be fixed in a nicer shape cabinet. So a simple box will suffice. And in a studio, nobody worries about cables. The more visible the more professional it looks the higher the invoice. I guess.
