I use mine two different ways. Stand alone for practices with battery power and as an amp sim pedal on my main pedalboard. On the pedalboard I ABC preset between the Twin, the Deluxe, and the Two Rock. My drives are before and my Zoom BT100 is after. As a standalone I have a patch with the Deluxe Amp sim on which I use the guitar volume to adjust the gain. The chain is booster, Deluxe, noise gate, delay, reverb, tremolo and before each song i highlight whichever effect needs to be toggled on and off. Highly flexible, excellent sound and perfectly portable. Buy one … you find more than one use for it.

I've had one for about 10 years and play in a jazz trio. I've been using it as a tuner and the Two Rock amp/cab for solos needing that Steely Dan mid-gain vibe. For my clean sound, I really like my Henriksen Bud, but I use a clean boost on the Zoom to punch it up a tad. I've been closely following digital multifx amp modeling across a lot of gear that I've kept or flipped. Funny thing is that for my needs, that one small and cheap pedal is perfect. Fits in my amp bag, not a tragedy if it gets stolen and is "good enough" for my purposes. JC is right that it is somewhat 2D....at home. But in a winebar it doesn't really matter to me. When I'm playing at home for fun or recording, I enjoy the depth that a lot of the new digital tools offer. But again, in a somewhat noisy winebar gig where we are tucked in the corner playing standards and pop-ish tunes, it covers the bases. Probably a good backup into a mixer for you guys that play covers.

I have this and love it. My main pedal board is a full Strymon midnight board: compadre> riverside> Deco> Mobius> Timeline> Bigsky> Iridium (dubbed the Batboard)… I play professionally twice a week minimum, and this is all I use 20% of the time. Killer pedal. Don’t let cork sniffers (like me) tell you anything bad about this because a) it’s cheap b) it’s Zoom and c) it’s digital…. It is an amazing piece of gear. I once had someone ask if they could see my board because they were blown away by my tone. They almost didn’t believe me when I said this was all I was using. This one piece of gear is enough to go direct to a board or PA (or a back line amp) and give you more than enough for live performances. If I could have one pedal, this is it. Love your playing - great phrasing. I think it's an amazing pedal for the price point. I think the gain sounds are just ok, but the delays and reverbs are very good. So overall it's just a compact multi effect pedal that can fill some holes in a pedal board, act as a good direct to PA back up if your amp goes out, or be a nice travel/practice solution. I am using mine for a compact pedal board to cover everything but the gain sounds. So basically this, a looper, and a few gain pedals. Simple and small for when I don't want to lug around the big board

I am in Michigan without power. These little boxes (I have the MS100BT) are battery powered. Guess what I will be playing this weekend! There are some solid effects on these. The H9 is audibly better and I believe has much better (in fact brilliant IMO) A/D conversion which is very noticeable on attack transients, but still, these Zooms are very cool. Yeah - I never bonded with the amp sims either, but for practice they are adequate. Some of the modulations are very good, and feeding an octave-up into a verb in place of the 'shimmer' yields better results for that kind of sound. The fine-tuning is very coarse in many ways though.
@Apodicticus Жыл бұрын
I bought one of these when they first came out, blew it up connecting to an old Hammond, replaced it immediately, and will probably buy the 'plus' model as soon as it comes out. I mostly use it as a single effect -- if I need some odd modulation effect, or a slightly different distortion than what's on my board, I use that. I also use it if I'm visiting and just want to bring a guitar and a small solid-state amp. The Zoom fits right in the guitar case, and gives me the essentials: a bit of compression, a touch of overdrive, a little reverb. I tend to use effects pretty sparingly, and at less extreme settings, they all sound quite good.

Recently, I was lucky enough to get a new (still in its bag) MS-50G off eBay UK for £70. I have a large and quite complex pedalboard, with three “channels” on an EHX Tri Parallel Mixer (for “regular guitar”, “SY-1 synth” and “EHX Superego”), plus an OMEC Teleport for patching in my iPad. I’d been using a ZOOM G1 Four in the “regular guitar” channel, to give me modulation, drives, compression and occasional amp-sims (though my usual AC30-type amp tone comes from a VOX Mystic Edge). However, the MS-50G gives me much the same capability as the G1, is half the size, and the chaining-patches option is super-useful on stage. I do find patch-creation/editing very fiddly on the pedal, so I prefer to connect the MS-50G to my Mac via USB, and create/manage patches using the ToneLib Zoom editor app. Wish there was an editor which ran on my iPad, though… I guess you can’t have everything!

It has plenty of useable to very good effects. The delays and verbs in particular sound great and because it’s stereo they can really shine. I’ve used it as a fly rig for a jam when I can’t be arsed to bring a full board, I’ve used it as part of my main rig in the fx loop of my JC22 (stereo loop) to expand my available sounds and I’ve used it directly into a recording interface. Totally enamored of your playing on this!!! How you so gorgeously meld emotionality with prowess escapes me. And I had ordered this pedal a couple days before watching your video, on a hunch that it would be „good enough“ for my intended purposes as a mostly acoustic player wishing to through in some electric and hybrid guitar on my sets, but a) without taking up much pedalboard real estate, and b) being battery-powered for busking or quick-and-dirty garden parties, etc. Indeed the rest of my board is battery-powered if desired (and the Zuma is mounted underneath for other situations). The search of an „all-in-one“ pedal of small size and big (enough) punch was very, very tiresome. I already own a ToneX pedal, among other things, but that‘s no good for battery operation, and who was to lug a 2.5 kg power station around just to be „light and mobile“? Enter the Zoom… Yep, this is sure to be a keeper when it arrives today. Sure, there are better modelers out there, but no other such all-in-one package that ticks all the boxes for me. Folks considering it in KZbin Land are well advised to note that only slightly more recent videos demo it with the 3.0 (or higher) firmware, which includes additional amps and effects.

the menu system is quite intuitive once you grasp it. Even more less effort to manage your presets from a laptop via USB and then just tweak them where necessary with the pedal interface.

is the Ms70 noisy? or is there tone lost issues with it? I've been wanting to get it.
@Awesomelvis Жыл бұрын
I have all of them except the bluetooth one. There is a known high pitched noise issue when using a power supply but can be avoided using batteries, can't remember if certain isolated power supplies solved it or not. Side note, disaster area makes a usb midi footswitch that works with them.
@Johnboc Жыл бұрын
I have no high pitched noise problems with either the mxr mini iso brick or truetone cs12. I do, however, run into noise when usb powered.

Never noticed this on the MS100BT (which unfortunately does not respond to MIDI as far as I know, but others do.). I have run Rocktron/Voodoo Labs Mondo and even Boss PS/Truetone. But... it could be patch specific?

Hi! I Can't seem to find the presets from this video on your "presets"-link. Do you have those, and if so is it possible to get a hold of them? :)

The AMP models sound great with HX Stomp's new cabs going after the models (with the Amp model's cab turned to OFF ofcourse)

Interesting. So many things to try, so little time. But...I might just try this.

@@trebleboost7 And the Zoom MS drives actually sound quite phenomenal going into HX amps. They sound MUCH better than going into their Zoom MS amp models IMO. Definitely not to be disregarded.

I have both MS50 and MS70CDR. The MS50 is always in the trunk of my car as a just in case backup. As a multi instrumentalist I often have to carry a small guitar rig as well as a trumpet and a sax for jam sessions. The MS Pedals fit in the gigbag, In one hand I carry a DV Mark little Jazz Amp (only 6,9Kg), guitar gigbag on my back, sax bag in the other hand and trumpet bag under the arm. Done! But there are so many (better sounding) options today. I prefer to use my HX Stomp. I also have a NuX Mighty Plug Pro, which sounds better than the Zoom and you can predetermin an order and number of presets you can scroll through. And I also have the NuX MG30 (basically the same sounds as in the Mighty Plug Pro but with a more convenient UI + IR import.

try the zoom g2 four. its zoom version of HX stomp. i heard the amp sims are excellent

I thought this thing was great. I sold it since I got an HX stomp, but I A/B'd them before I did and I was surprised how well it holds up. But I wish the thing wasn't so ugly.

The MS-50 it’s great, nothing but time-based affects I don’t really like overdrives in modelers I just love overdrive pedals too much… Really don’t care how good they are I’m just gonna stick with the overdrive pedals but as far as the time-based affects yeah I’m kind of made the transition so the 50 is perfect
@lanceholland Жыл бұрын
Tried it....returned it. It's probably good for home but on the board, it's awkward - in a way, it's better as a desktop device. Switching patches isn't intuitive.
@trebleboost7 Жыл бұрын
I do agree with this. Best used in a loop for a dedicated sound. Some do respond to MIDI though. But yeah, scrolling through presets can be done but yeah - awkward.

@@trebleboost7 , I believe it. After the Helix LT made it's way to me, haven't looked at anything else besides the Quad Cortex. It looks durable. Zoom stuff sounded decent so they know what they're doing.
