I'm going to miss Johnny because I love 70s music and Rock music. When Johnny announced his retirement on Sounds of the 70s I felt very sad because I had grown up listening to his shows. Thanks for the brilliant shows that I made an appointment in my diary to listen to every week. Your taste in music Johnny was my taste as well. RIP Great man.

Wow. What sad news to start 2025 too. Johnnie was Legend in the music world. He will be sorely missed. I love listening to Sounds of the Seventies on a Sunday Afternoon. As a child of the 1970s he played the music I grew up with and love. My warmest condolences to Tiggy and Johnnie's family. May you rest in Eternal peace Johnnie. xx

After Steve Wright earlier last year another broadcasting legend passes. People like Johnny had a huge influence on music and music culture generally. His taste was second to none, and he never sold out to the powers that be. I will miss him on Sunday afternooons, just like I missed his drive time show. The likes of Johnnie will never be heard again on the Radio ..RIP.

Real shame I used to love his show on the way home from work and then later on when he shifted slots really easy listening and entertaining, somewhere in the universe the house is rocking with wogan, wrighty and now JW spinning the discs RIP
@TonyWeavingКүн бұрын
With Terry Wogan and Steve Wright and now Johnnie that must have a shift pattern to spin the discs.

Rest in peace Johnnie in my book you are a radio legend. You played wonderful music during your broadcasting career whether at radio Caroline radio 1 and radio 2. By the way the four seasons recorded the original version of bye bye baby later covered by the bay city rollers. I know you like rock music but you detested the tartan combo the rollers.
@philipnorris65422 күн бұрын
He certainly was a legend, and will be very much missed. While the Rollers were never really his cup of tea he mellowed towards them later, and he did play their songs now and again on his Sunday afternoon show.

I did hear him play The Bay City Rollers a couple of times on Sounds of the Seventies. He played Bye Bye Baby and Give a Little Love.

Didn't hear him, except on tape, either here in the US or on the Beeb. But, well done on 59 years behind the mike (I only had 33), and peace.
