Johnnie Walker WAS AND STILL IS A TRUE LEGEND. Growing up 60s - 70s listening this man on a small transistor radio in my room or on the street corner in the rain with friends. One of the best radio presenters ever. Not like the 90s and onward rubbish who clamber over each other for fame. This man serviced the nation of young and the older generation with his distinctive voice. Not just that he was loved by each and every one of them. Johnnie Walker thank you for the music, the nostalgia and the wonderful memories, lots of them.

I fondly remember listening to Radio 1 and Johnnie broadcasting the new top 20 every Tuesday lunchtime in the early 1970s when I was a teenager at secondary school. We all gathered around the radio, it was part of our lives. Thank you for the memories...

This man has lifted my spirits a thousand times, brought me much joy over many decades. I recall being deeply saddened many years ago when I thought it was game over for Johnnie when he had a health issue and went off air for a considerable time, only for him to come back even brighter and fitter than before. We are so blessed to have such a gold standard DJ like Johnnie in our lives, the world's a better place for it.

I was listening to one of Johnnies' shows and then turned off the radio to make it down to Hyde Park for an Eagles gig. As I walked through the park, who literally comes across my path but Johnnie and Tiggy(Stardust!). After polite introductions we got to talking about the band and how the sound is not that bad from outside the concert area. I told him that I would write to him about the show from where I stood. The next week he read out my thoughts about the show and played my request. Johnnie Walker, you and Tiggy are a class act!! Thank you so much for all the work you have done on radio!!

Jonnie is a musical educator. He doesn’t just spin the records but gives us an insight into the music, writers, singers and players. Tomorrow afternoon is going to be very different but the 70’s is my era and I will continue to listen but with a much better understanding of the decade I danced to. Thank Jonnie. ❤

It remember listening to Johnnie Walker in the 70s when he presented the lunchtime show on Radio one. I loved the Pop The Question feature and my school friends used to listen with me. I was a teenager in the 70s and loved listening to Sounds Of The 70s every weekend. But best memory of Johnnie Walker will be of him playing my selection for the BTO feature, It's All Over Now Baby Blue by Graham Bonnet.

I used to listen to the lunchtime Johnnie Walker show and remember when he left the BBC for the first time for the USA, around the mid-70s, he bade farewell by saying something like ''I'm looking forward to riding off into the desert on my Harley ... take care everyone'' and then he played out with Peaceful easy feeling by Eagles. That stuck with me for some reason and I cannot hear that now without thinking of Johnnie and his farewell message all those years ago.

Johnnie Walker has been part of my whole life since I was a teenager . I am now 76 . He would play music not on the BBC playlist (Duelling Banjo's) comes to mind . He was anarchic and upset those prats at BBC who didn't understand what the youth of the day wanted to hear ...Sacked (or should I say a parting of the ways , like Simon Mayo who is in the same mould which at least commercial radio has given him freedom,) I don't know how many years later , came back as good as ever . A shame he has lost that silky voice . God Bless you Johnnie . Please try and do one more broadcast of all the music that would upset BBC that you weren't allowed to play .
