Today we are hanging out with Devon, who was the chef at the legendary "Longboarder Bar & Grill" in St Thomas Parish. This is my first experience with this exact version of Johnny Cakes and it certainly did not disappoint, even though we just scrounged up what was in the house during a 3 day lockdown 😎
More with Devon coming soon,
bless up,

Man I grew up eating Johnny cake. My mom told me they were called Journey cakes because the ancestors would take them on long Journeys or treks. In Honduras islands it's a bit different it's more of a shortbread and is baked. Super delicious fresh out the oven with Lil bit butter and Mango jam yes for breakfast on Sunday! But you can eat them with different toppings beans an avocado also.

Wow that is so cool! I live in Belize and Johnny cake to us is something similar but cooked differently! We would basically prepare the dough the same way but instead of frying it, we would flatten it and bake them in an oven! Jah Bless Rasta!

The famous cake of Jamaica 🇯🇲 I’m going to teach a bit of history the original name was not Johnny cakes Way back in history these were the food of choice especially for long trips they were very hard to spoil or go bad and so these fried dumplings got their name. “ Journey cakes” So some where along the line the names got mix up Some history for thought🤔

I really don't overstand why people in Jamaica eat such unhealthy food??? Because they have all the good vegetables and fruits... I would give everything if i could live there. White flower, white rice etc very terrible poisons. I live in Europe...and here you can plant and reap in 3 months... You have only 3 month warm weather. But i would never use such a poison. Im a Vegan, and it's really not easy to live here as a vegan. To see that Jamaicans used this terrible food is disappointing. Wake up bredrins and look around you you live inna paradise. Give Thanks

I tell my Jamaican family members and friends especially the elders to stop eating so many white rice and flour. They are set in their ways. I had to put away that stuff because it was blowing me up! I do cold pressed juice 7 days a week and have been doing so for 25 years. Big organic salad with every veggie you can think of and some form of protein and I am good, however when I go to Jamaica all I eat is ackee salt fish and fried dumplings it’s my absolute favorite! 🤣🙏
