One of Johnny Cash’s greatest songs! I recommend you see the movie, “Walk the Line.” A great movie about Johnny Cash’s life-his music, the love of his life, June Carter and his struggles with addiction.. He was surely one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time!

He wrote that song while in the army, and aced it on his first tryout.therefore it led to a record deal and the rest is history.

If you want, see the film Walk The Line, Johnny Cash’s manager didn’t want him doing a live album at a prison, but he wasn’t going to be told what to do, and the album Live At Folsom Prison, was the top selling album, even topping The Beatles

The dude was as OG as you can get. He’s goated for a reason, he didn’t give a single fuck about what was “proper”.

I'm a big fan of Johnny Cash, but he never outsold the Beatles. Live At Folsom Prison sold 3,000,000 copies. The album the Beatles had out in 1968 was their The Beatles album, better known as the White Album. It sold 12,000,000 copies. Folsom Prison only went to number 13 on the Pop chart. The Beatles album went to number 1.

Lol, I know, I was hoping he would catch that line, he'll have a treat during listen #2...my poor parents trying to explain that it wasn't a real story to Little Me in the 70s

I am not a country fan, but I love Johnny Cash's music catalog. Walk the Line movie helped me appreciate him more. Joaquin Phoenix played amazingly. He had all the nuances down pat.

Ol' Man in Black was bad ass back in his day! Johnny actually spent some time in prison so he can relate to the prisoners. A boy named Sue is a good Johnny Cash song.

Love Johnny Cash. He was very open to all kinds of music and it was shocking when he brought Bob Dylan on his show and they sang together. It was very healing because we were divided over Viet Nam War among other things and Dylan was seen as a new generation counter culture icon. He wrote a lot of protest songs and yet Johnny Cash brought him on his show. It was incredible.

OMG! If you want to have your soul touched, watch Johhny Cash sing HURT. You will watch it over & over again. More melodic than Nine Inch Nails' version, and just as touching, as Johnny Cash nears the end of his life, and misses his wife.

The Danish band Volbeat did a reimagining of this song that is epic. It’s called “Sad Man’s Tongue”. Their vocalist Michael Paulsen idolizes both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Their music mixes Rockabilly with Metal. It is fantastic and I seriously doubt you have ever heard anything like it. Cheers from Texas!🤘🏻😎

I love this type of country music not just bc the music and stories are good but because singers like Cash talked about issues that the lower class experienced. Contrary to the country of today old country was more progressive in their song topics.

The Outlaw Movement in country is sometimes used as a counterpoint to the frequent complaints about rap and hip hop. And perhaps that retort is valid, to a point. But listen closely to most Outlaw songs, and they wind up being cautionary tales. Get right, this ain't the way to be. Definitely do watch "Walk the Line." Joaquin Phoenix just nails it with his rendition of Johnny Cash singing "Cocaine Blues."

FYI, Johnny had substance abuse issues. He had spent time in jail, and a short time in prison. That's the only thing white washed in the movie Walk the Line (the time spent incarcerated). You really have to watch that movie. Lots of music, but the closest biography of Johnny. It brings a whole new meaning to his last videos before his death.
