I grew up in New Orleans as well. It was an ‘open town’.

Les Crutchfield writes a GREAT story!!! YTJD or Gunsmoke, he's one of the best. Like Bob Bailey. Only prob. is, the 5 day episodes are spent mostly on theme music and recap.The story is great.

The statement from the accused is that she assumed he had been shot with his own gun. Can't prove she didn't. But these stories are from a long time ago, when Justice is always served, and maybe that's why the writing is still good, 60 plus years later.... Every detail doesn't have to be checked and double checked. Just listen to the show and appreciate that it's available to listen to.

Except as Johnny points out the police didn't determine he'd been shot with his own gun until 24 hours AFTER she filed the claim; the cops assumed he'd been shot by another gun and he'd fired his gun at the prowler. She couldn't assume he'd been shot with his own gun; she'd have to be complicit somehow to even make an assumption like that.

Outstanding plot and characters. Marty Blake oozes sexuality but it's easy to see through her as the greediest dame in the town. Enjoyable is Stacy Harris as Dave Sherman, confident in Marty before realizing her guilt - and the guilt of the Mayor.

Why would they assume that any “grief-stricken widow” would be up to something if she files an insurance claim within 24 hours? Most people need the money to bury their dead, so they would need that life insurance in order to have a funeral, so it would naturally be the next logical step. Family and friends would be pushing them to do that if they weren’t thinking of it themselves. I’ve seen people in some countries wait up to two or three weeks to have a funeral (not recommended), but in the United States, it can sometimes be the very next day, and usually three days is about standard. Not many people pre-pay for their plots and funerals, you can never be sure they’re going to come across and do a good job if it’s all paid in advance. Plus, most people refuse to face the fact that there’s one trip everybody must take, willing or not, and they have no control over when they’ll be taking it, either, except for those who choose to go on their own. Nobody gets out of it. And few plan for where they will be going, or what they will be encountering. They may put on a brave face, but if they’re not facing it, they are cowards. Most people like to just pretend that whatever they believe will be what they get and they never test their theories.

What does that mean (or what did they mean in the day when they said that), with 'a town that is Wide Open'? Thanks, if you can tell !
@Cleveland.Ironman4 жыл бұрын
Harrick V Harrick a “Wide Open Town” means that every possible vice is available in the city and law enforcement is either on the payroll of the gangsters or too weak to do anything to stop the lawlessness.

@@Cleveland.Ironman Didn't Johnson City, Tennessee have a reputation of being an open town in the 1950s? In the February 26, 1952 issue of Look magazine, Johnson City was one of 25 cities listed as a hotbed of vice conditions.

@@JHaupt6314 You are absolutely correct, it was reminiscent of Chicago in the 1920’s.
