In our final video from this year's WonderFest scale modelmaking convention, we revisit the collectors of Johnny 5 replicas to check out this incredible 1/3 scale model of the beloved robot from Short Circuit! I live in a small town but we had a #5 come to our school in I think ‘89. Iirc, one person handled the overal robot’s movements, another the arms/etc, another the voice. It was the coolest assembly ever.

The German movie title even was "Nummer 5 lebt!" (Number 5 lives (or is alive, same wording here)) instead of the direct translation "Kurzschluss" (shortcut). And the robot was really just named "Nummer 5" (number 5). Loved this movie as a kid a lot.

Johnny 5 has to be my all time favorite character ever since I first saw short circuit as a kid in the early to mid 90s. I watched it so much I wore out the tape haha. I have always wanted one and finally stumbled across these johnny 5 groups and found files and ended up getting a 3d printer and printing my own. No where close to the detail that Titan Ross and the other creators of the files and prints can do, bit I was finally able to have my own.😊

9:00 I've only watched two or three episodes of "Space 1999," and it felt like a typical 70s sci-fi TV show-not very impressive. However, I do agree that the Eagle and its related ships were quite intriguing. They seemed to be the most practical and plausible real-life spacecraft concepts, similar to the landers in "2001: A Space Odyssey."

I am almost finished my 1:1 Johnny 5 bust. I set him aside to finish wiring and program so I could work on my next book and unfortunately someone's tail 'helped' him do a face plant. So, he needs repairs. Seeing those scale models makes me want to print 1 and finish my bust. I love the Eagle, I bet the APC shuttle from Space Above and Beyond was heavily influenced by the Eagle. (and probably Halo's Pelican in turn) My late cousin got me into scifi with his Eagle and other models. Love to see that!

Truly amazing to see all these models. That said the cockpit design of the Eagle has always bothered me because the window arrangement seems optimized to prevent the pilot from seeing outside. Other famous movie spaceships like the Tie Fighter, and even the Millennium Falcon, seem to suffer from massive blindspots as well. Would love to see a video about that aspect of movie spaceships either from a how they were designed/behind the scenes standpoint or perhaps some sort of comedy parody.
