Love watching a good equipment operator who knows what they are doing, use the bucket as an extension of their hand and can bonus flip 1 rock at a time... always makes me laugh. Skirts will last a life time the way he builds and packs them.

It's always a pleasure to watch any person perform their job that is masterful at what they do. Like you said, zero wasted motion. Every movement of the bucket loader was for a specific purpose. Either digging out the soil to create the ramp for the skirt, moving towards the pond with a load of rock, dumping the rock, raking the bucket back & forth to distribute the rock, tamping the rock with the bottom of the bucket, moving back towards the rock piles for another bucket's load of rock, or scooping up a load of rock. Johnny is an artist with that small front end loader. You're very fortunate to have such a skilled operator close to where you live.

Incredible! This skirt method for sourcing water from a pond is perfect. 💦 🐂 I see neighbors lease property to family who drop young cattle off and expect to return in the winter to load up finished weight cattle. Meanwhile the rain caught pond has turned into sludge, the field has been pucked so badly the grass could not regrow and the mature load was concentrated into the last tree cover available. Management shouldn’t be assumed it will be well done just because we drive by a pasture of cattle. These are the days to learn the actual regenerative ways to rebuild field health for ongoing grazing and a return and profit for the future. 🌞🌱❤️

Wow. Amazing. In just a few minutes, Johnny was able to dump the rock in, spread it backwards and forwards, filling the "hole" into a perfectly graded "boat ramp" pond skirt. Beautiful. Enjoyed him tossing the one rock; probably could make it skim!

I am grinning ear to ear astonished that they could hear you ask them to wave how nice for them to see how it is done .I hope that when they are ready to make ponds and skirts they find some one as accomplished to help them. Please make a video focusing on the ATV mods. Really interested in how the bullbar makes it possible to drive over the wire and how you use the different holders. Thanks for really awesome videos and being a huge source of inspiration!

Thanks for the video! He sure knows what he is doing. It would be fun to learn all those things but it sure wouldn’t be the same if you didn’t have a professional doing it. I know some who built his pond and it always had a leak. They filled it and empty it a lot to find the problem. I don’t know if they ever found it though. I’m guessing the ground didn’t have the correct soil for packing the dam.

Do you add some kind of geotextile fabric to keep the gravel from mixing with soil.? Keeps the cows out of the mud.
@gregjudyregenerativerancher
@gregjudyregenerativerancher 2 жыл бұрын
We do not put geotextile down on a rock pad when we have any kind of slope into the pond. All your rock will slide into the pond. We put down a base layer of 12" diameter rock with 12 tons. This was followed with 12 tons of 2" rock for the cows to walk on. 3 years and counting the pads still look perfect after being hammered by 350 head multiple times per year.

fence the rest of the pond or that will be the last place that the cattle use to get a drink. They dont like the risk of a sharp rock getting stuck in their hooves.
