I grew up in the 60s with 93/KHJ, and for me, the Johnny Mann Singers' jingles were as important to me as the music!

I did too. The differences in the Top 40 Stations (KHJ, KRLA. and KFWB when they were still doing Top 40) were easy to spot .And of course, one of those areas were the "jingles". Having the Johnny Mann Singers do your station jingles was just as instrumental in ratings as the Drake format itself. There was nothing like Boss Radio.

@@oldschoolrr6077 I know what you mean! We moved from SoCal to the Bay Area in 1969, where I found 610/KFRC. It wasn't Boss Radio, but they too had the JM Singers. Then they hired the incomparable Dr Don Rose for the morning drive, but that's a topic for another day. 😂

Wow those singers are incredible! They probably only really needed one take to nail it... that’s how good they were... Glad to still hear at least half of this jingle on SiriusXM On the Sixties Channel.

It is a privilege to actually view a Drake jingle being created. And, Johnny Mann is a legend...in the jingle business, and the music business, in general,

One of the greatest program directors ever, Mike Phillips sitting on the sofa. I worked for him at K-Earth and at KFRC in San Francisco.

I have always been obsessed with the jazz chords in these jingles. It's so exciting to see one being recorded. I would love to have the opportunity to sing these.

A capalla recordng...Sidebar to the first jingles for KHJ in the 60's Why no music? Simple...There was a musician strike so they had to get 'em out pronto for RKO and they recorded them naked... Best thing to ever happen...Just like these they flew out of the speaker into your ear... Good memories...

I was a studio singer for z50 years and worked with Johnny in many of his albums. I never did any jungles packages for him though. But all those singers in the studio were my colleagues. I wish the video through the booth window were clearer, I can’t recognize any of them. Many happy memories!

Finally... I know I've been listening to these voices for at least 45 years. I'm 47, and I can now say: THANK 😂 YOU.

Love this video. The difference between 0:56 and 7:42 really answers the question of "don't all these sound the same?" The chords are beautiful; and I especially like with they have just the girls sing their parts and then just the guys. Amazing how it sounds when it's all put together.

I remember listening to Shotgun Tom in the early 70s (I was likejust a SMALL kid!) on LA radio (93 KHJ) - - This is some classic "behind the scenes" -ness!!!

voicetube Shotgun was a San Diego mainstay all thru the 70s except for a short stint at KRIZ Phoenix and KAFY Bakersfield in 1969/70. He didnt get to KRTH until the Real Don Steele passed in 1997/1998.

This features the BRILLIANT MIKE PHILLIPS who was PD of KRTH at the time. Genius. Anyone who met him would know he should be hired immediately

Really a treat to see/hear this session! I did'nt know how many of the original Johnny Mann singers were still singing. --- On the subject of jingles, I heard that many stations are outsourcing their jingles to studio vocalists in Thailand. They don;t need to know English, it's just phonetics to them and they are given a rough master tape so they can master imitating the American radio voice sounds. Even jingles for Mexican radio stations(US & Mexico) are doing jingle outsourcing...bummer.

Shotgun is cooooool! Wish they had shot the session for the Sylvia Aimerito jingle. She's an amazing talent and a pioneer in the field of women DJs. We've been listening to her since her Rock N Rhythm KNAC days and listen to her via internet on Saturdays. If anyone comes across her jingle vid, please post. THANK YOU!

How many of you, like me, were nervous, at the 3:20 mark, that the beverage cup would get knocked over on to the board??
