I loved the Smiths since the first album. I loved Electronic. I love how Johnny moves forward constantly without looking back too much. Love his new songs. Never really NEEDED Morrissey did he, great as The Smiths were. Love his approach to guitar and love Fender, their amps and guitars and Leo Fender himself is also an inspiration to me. Bought one of the Johnny Marr signature Jaguars recently, Love it! Been playing a 1966 Fender Twin Reverb amp and 80's Strat forever myself...this is great!

Johnny's voice here is better than ever! Love his new style - just Jaguars, Fender amps and straightforward rock'n'roll. Love "The Messenger" and can't wait for the new record.

I just love that he’s popularised the Jaguar. After Stratocaster‘s and telles for almost 40 years and after having no interest in Jaguars I’ve bought 2 and will likely buy a signature series JM and a big part of it is thanks to Johnny Mar. Such a great ambassador for Fender

Johnny Marr has lived on in relative obscurity in ancillary bands since "The Smiths" but he still has all od the beautiful sounds that defined the music of that era.

The music would make a better movie soundtrack than an album. It was pretty generic sounding. The Fender equipment looked as good as they sounded. The black on black bass was hot. Oh yeah, the guitars were nice too.

Johnny is part of a long line of melody rhythm players from the uk are the guitar is used in service of the song not the other way around. Keith Richards Johnny. Coxon. Even billy Bragg. However the lack of guitar solos is often somewhat frustrating. It's like there is no orgasm. I have seen Johnny live a couple times and yes the sound is great. But I found myself wanting Johnny to open up in terms of the playing. A bit more improv from the band and guitars.

One of my favorite guitarists of all time---what a great style and ability to layer tracks, and he's played with some of my favorite bands-- a true guitar legend in my opinion. That said, he is not a good lyricist and an even worse singer--boring as hell, even embarrassing at times. He should recognize and utilize his strengths, not weaknesses. Also, he takes himself way too seriously.
@cespo7710 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. That is what happens when words like "legend" get constantly thrown around. It would get to some people's head. Though I must say, at 50 he doing a lot better than what Clapton and Richards were doing at that age.

Ever played in a band or partnered up with a friend and tried to make music? I found that someone will take the lyric content & someone will wind up the musical director & others will contribute both. You generally play to your strengths in that environment, and develop from there. I found I'm less capable of lyric than music. My friend found he was more lyrical. We worked well while we tried to write some original material. Later, I tried to write similar songs solo & found the lyric was letting me down. Obviously I'm not Marr or Morrisey but I have empathy with their individual situations now, as compared to the strength of The Smiths catalogue they developed together.
