This video follows my other Paycheck video "Old Violin" it was recorded on the same magical night at the opry.

My father Larry Wayne Johnson wrote this song for Jonny Paycheck. I miss him so much. He passed away in 2020 just before Father's Day. My father was a great man, I think about him every day. I miss spending time with him and my brother Joshua Wayne Johnson. Playing music together in the kitchen of our old house. It was the best time I have ever had in my life. And there's nothing I wouldn't give for just one more song together with him. Even though he is gone now I can still hear him singing in my mind. And I'm sure right now he is with God in heaven, singing with the angles. He wrote many songs throughout his life. The one that people most recognize is ( Don't Take The Girl ) performed by Tim McGraw. I can't wait until the day that I get to see my Dad in heaven. I Love You Dad. Larry Wayne Johnson 1950 - 2020

Sad fact is that they'll probably put Keith Urban in before Johnny in ..if they ever put him in at all. Dudes like Johnny Paycheck and David Allan Coe are what County is all about. These other types might as well be working retail in the clothing store at the mall.

It is a shame he is not in the fame i guess they say he was to rough hell they all were and you could ask any member if there are any of the old ones left and they would agree country music was always singing from the heart and the crazy lifestyle the drinking all of that was how it was but for some reason paycheck who did every thing that could be done in the country music he lived it out a true country singer it is like watching a movie and they throw the stunt man in there to ride the horse paycheck was the real deal

Sadly you try to do something just as that, preserve it, and KZbin takes it down after it gets a million views.. I had old violin uploaded from the opry on here and it hit a million views then they took it down.

Johnny Paycheck is THE MOST UNDER-RATED Country Singer in his generation....every time I hear one of these slow ballads by him, within 10 seconds I already know and feel that it's better than most of the others...he brought a lot of feeling to the microphone...

I talked to Johnny about this song a few years before he passed. He felt this song would help him regain his past popularity and success. It should have! He sounded great right to the end.

Shame on me for once thinking Paycheck was a fringe player in the country scene. The man played with George Jones in the early days and every song I’ve heard is always so perfect from the pedal steel to his voice. What an awesome artist he was

His prison sentence came at a bad time in his life....but Johnny still refused to sit around and feel sorry for himself. You know that Johnny Paycheck always had an "old man" voice full of pain and suffering. Even in his early recordings, he sounded like the old man you find in a neighborhood bar in the middle of the day--always on the same stool, always playing the same sad song on the juke box. Always trying to get over the girl he lost years ago. He was such a treasure.

Lyrical Genius! My hero!
@christopherjohnson252 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saying Lyrical Genius. Because my father Larry Wayne Johnson was just that. My father Larry Wayne Johnson wrote that song and pitched it to Jonny Paycheck. It was Jonny Paycheck's last #1 hit before he died. My father passed away in 2020 just before Father's Day. He also wrote ( Don't Take The Girl ) performed by Tim McGraw. I miss my Dad so much. When I hear Jonny Paycheck sing this song, it reminds me of my Dad singing it to me while he was writing it in our old house in Ashland City TN. I'm really happy you liked it. Thank you so much.

@@christopherjohnson25 where is the recording of this song by Johnny Paycheck? ..it sure would have been the best record by him EVER in my opinion 💟 his singing, the arrangement and his band were incredible with this one. It is said that he never recorded it ... and that this Opry performance was the only recording of the song and he was about to record it but his health was declining and did not get to make record😞

It seems more like a nod of approval. Paycheck himself was a steel player and would feed off of the band. And man, does Jay Andrews play it great on this one.
