One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists. Johnny Rivers is hands down one of the best rock stars ever. His voice is like no other.

***SECRET AGENT MAN*** was Johnny Rivers biggest hit song, it went to number (3) on the billboard charts.... It was used for the TV Series SECRET AGENT in the early to mid 1960s, when all the James Bond movies were breaking box office records..... Rockin The Phenomena and The Boogie Woogie Flu went to number (52) on the billboard charts... I think MRM would like Secret Agent Man? ...what do you people think??

When I was a teenager had his album, Johnny Rivers at the WhiskaGoGo. Loved, loved, loved it! He did a remake of Chuck Berry's Memphis. As the story goes, he was at Graceland with Elvis when Elvis told him he wanted to record Memphis. Unfortunately, before Elvis recorded it, Johnny Rivers recorded it and it became a big hit for Johnny. They said Elvis was so mad he never spoke to Johnny Rivers again. Eventually, Elvis did record it, and used it in his concerts.
@brendaisajiw34174 жыл бұрын
Hmm....Where did you read that? To not speak to Johnny Rivers ever again sounds a bit childish for something Elvis would do.

Johnny Rivers actually covered this song. The original recording of "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" was by Huey "Piano" Smith & The Clowns in 1957. It was a breakout Top 5 R&B hit, and despite becoming an early Rock & Roll standard, it didn't even make the Pop Top 40 thanks to white radio programmers who refused to play it. Here is a link to the original: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXzNmX-nabOLf6c

You really should start a playlist on Spotify, you are giving me all the feels with your song choice! Reminding me of old songs that I loved back in the day! I have one you should take a listen to that I love, it’s called Escape(the Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes. It topped the charts in 1979 and then again in 1980 making it the only pop song to hold the top spot in two decades. Love your channel my friend! Keep bringing back the memories, I’m loving it,

During the day when it was closed my sister and I along with his granddaughter would play Johnny Rivers on the jukebox and dance all over the hardwood dance floor. This was in the early to mid 60's and he was very popular. Good memories!

Johnny Rivers was/is a strange one. When he had a hit, it was usually pretty darn good....and then he'd disappear for a while. Eventually he'd show up again with another great tune. My personal favorite is 'Poor Side Of Town' which went to #1 in the US. It's my understanding McCartney loved the harmonies on this song so much, he nicked the idea for some of the material on his album RAM.

In the Living Years - always makes me cry... but I was able to use it as an example for some people that I barely knew who happened into the bar above which I live... and it prompted them to reach out to an alienated son/brother... although I'd never met these people before, they actually came back a few times over ensuing months and updated me on how they were reunited and how much it meant to them that I gave my "musical advice" -- (I know that I should not play counselor in the bar, but hey, I'm what I term "gregarrulous" - you know, gregarious and garrulous...)
