Leave aside his inability to communicate effectively with Refs. The most important point to note is that he should never have been made captain by Farrell. His role as a No.10 in the Irish team is to organise his backs and provide feedback to the forwards and vice versa. By talking to the ref, never mind the arguing, his effectiveness as an organiser and leader of his players is reduced.
