Some of the people in these threads are taking this all far too seriously. This whole bit was an extended one off by a bunch of guys who really loved this Record. None of them needed the money (wasn't Walter a commodities broker for years), the venues were small, and they were just celebrating the 40th anniversary and rerelease of this record. It was all for a laugh.

I was at this show. I couldn’t agree with you more. They were fans before they were musicians and this showed it. There was maybe 100 people in that basement! It was a once in a lifetime show. They were fans just jamming. Some of these comments?!? Like Mike Ness needs the money?!?

I don't think he knew him personally. Although Mike Ness wasn't a sweetheart back in the day either lol. Mike does speak highly of Johnny's music all the time. Like he said "My heroes were not athletes or presidents, but gangsters and junkie guitar players". I think Johnny Thunders fits into the latter. I know he loves the bluesy feel of Johnny's music.

Jeremy Freeman LOL....that was what I thought too! I mean, he’s correct....not the most professional thing tuning non muted guitars (Love how JM explained that one), and dead air between songs...but what did he expect from a throw together act, 3/4 of which just met for the first time the day before?!?!? Monster drummer though....in the early 90’s he did a record and tour with Dramarama and John Easdale would always introduce him as the greatest drummer ever....I tend to agree.

Look, it's perfectly all right to do a live concert in front of a real live audience with songs you've loved from your teenage years even if you're pushing 60 n "still wearing jeans". Stop whining about it n enjoy. You're not having fun then get out of here. Simple. Right? Try to put on your earphones n enjoy a bunch of middle age punk rockers playing songs from one of Punk Rock's greats - Johnny Thunder. If you still don't get it then it's your loss. If you wanna get it then listen to Sex Pistols, the Clash n the Ramones for a bit then come back in your after you've also Googled the important people n bands of Punk Rock. It's sure fine looking, man, it's something else!

@mlwsf5 жыл бұрын
Essentially it is a cover band as all of the members of the Heartbreakers but Walter are dead. But it's not just Social D up there. You also have a Sex Pistol and a Blondie. It was the 40th year anniversary and reissue of the LAMF album. So this band was thrown together for a handful of small shows, just for a lark.

Walter looks like he picked up his guitar at a pawn shop on the way to the show....doesn't look like a Gibson.
@FrankHerfjord5 жыл бұрын
eh... that's a custom shop.
@mlwsf5 жыл бұрын
He just hasn't bothered getting it set up in 40 years, probably needs a new nut and tuners. But I guess he wanted it vintage as it was the guitar used on the Record and the tour.
@johnrectangle60344 жыл бұрын
It's a real Gibson, the one he got before he was with the Heartbreakers. No custom shop, it doesn't exist. It'a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. The original pickups, minihumbuckers, were changed for straight humbuckers. He rehearsed with his band, the Demons in the same place where the starting three members Heartbreakers played. The Heartbreakers manager, Lee Black Childers, heard Walter play. He told Johnny there's a guitarist with a thin sound, like Johnny wanted. A thin sound, yeah, it was this guitar in a cranked Twin Reverb It's that guitar that Walter played on LAMF. He played the same guitar for forty years till the pick guard felt apart. So he tried at least three others Les Paul. But he get back to his old trusted one RIP Walter

The performances in the video uploaded here are just terrible. But the video does serve one constructive purpose. For it is aural and visual evidence that people over 50 years old should not be performing rock and roll. Actually, maybe even people over 40 years old should not be playing rock and roll either. But the irony is that it is mostly only older people (well over 40 years old at this point) who actually remember real rock and roll. So maybe John Genzale had the correct idea all along--just die at 38 years old, before one lives long enough to become a real embarrassment.
