This was a great video to a great Squaresoft classic! It hasn't aged perfectly in some aspects but it's just so damn charming and fun As a long time fan of both Johnny and this game, to anyone that enjoyed this I recommend also checking out Gaming Broduction's retrospective over Brave Fencer Musashi that came out earlier this year. It's over an hour long and another real in-depth look at the game, the laidback chill delivery of both the channels with the occasional humor are very similar so I think most that liked this video will enjoy that one as well!

I actually was pretty excited to see an upload from Johnny that covered this one. I've been curious about his input on it ever since he referenced it way back during his Bastion review from years ago. I would also like to see Brave Fencer Musashi get a proper remake sometime. Y'know, address the flaws that were likely the result of limitations of the hardware at the time, and introduce so many more to the game. I'm intrigued by the world presented within the game itself, and I do have a pretty avid appreciation for fantasy worlds that blend different genres of fiction to create something more unique. That could just be a byproduct of the fact that I've recently decided to pick back up Tales of the Abyss and I'm utterly enamored with pulp fantasy/dieselpunk setting it seems to sport, so the steampunk, nonchalantly comical fantasy world this game seems to take place in would likely very much appeal to me.

Very nostalgic game of mine… That I never could finish, very sadly thanks to either time being good at it/not knowing what to do or the game itself literally not working (especially for the emulator I used)! Still I love how charming this game is with its world, characters you can love- heck a world you’ll love and want to explore (kinda wish this series got an animated adaptation or even a manga because I like to see more of it), and just fun/interesting mechanics. That’s not getting into the music, the sound effects, heck even I like the charm of classic RPG UI Squaresoft games had. It’s just a great game overall!

What a return, one of my favorite PS1 games! And I have to say...Your story sounds a lot like mine. I first encountered Brave Fencer Musashi at a Garage sale in...2000. Or rather, my brothers did. It was one of six or so PS1 games we picked up at a garage sale...along with the console itself. I was intrigued by FF7 first, and while I would play that a good chunk...demo first for some reason, because it came with Tobal No.1 (Solid game, if fairly dated.), and going through the game that looked like Dragon Ball a bit, I started on Brave Fencer Musashi. And god damn, that was definitely love at first play as you said. I was obsessed. Besting the Steam Knight made me feel fucking amazing, it was the first game I had ever played with voice acting, and the music was so good! Hunting for the Bincho fields, absorbing enemies, poking around the animal poop because i didn't know what the word "Dung" meant (I was 5.), buying bread and action figures... I loved it. It toook tiny me years to beat i, but beat it I did, becoming the third game i ever did so after both Zeldas on n64. I fucking love this game, Johnny, and I'm glad to see someone else love it too.
