The great irony of the ESRB is that it gave games company license to make more violent games, as now they weren't marketing to a general market and could advertise specifically to adults.
@moblinmajorgeneral Жыл бұрын
I think the MPAA movie rating system allowed for something similar, and that went doubly so for when they introduced the PG-13 rating.
@LordArikado7 ай бұрын
There's a second great irony to the ESRB: It was created because there was no rating system to tell parents whether a game was appropriate for their kids, and now that there is one, parents still buy adult-oriented games for their little crotch goblins and blame the publishers for it.

The irony of MK is as much as I love it my love didn't come from the actual fighting games. My favorite game of the MK series was actually MK Shaolin Monks. the 3D action adventure game was more appealing to me than playing the fighting games in part for two reasons. While I don't delve into it now, particularly because I suck at it and Other titles have interested me more (mainly JRPGs), I still look back fondly on these games and how I managed to clear the first game's Story with Lu Kang. And then I never got to play another game because My folks saw how Bloody and Violent it was and barred me from playing it until I was 10 when they stopped giving a shit about the Violence in Video Games as long as it didn't wander into NSFW territory (they still let me watch the Movies for some reason though).
I love hearing people talk about the AI in the 2nd game, because I watched a video on all the ways the AI cheats, and what you said Johnny is all true, but the AI is ALSO allowed to do things that literally the human player just ISNT allowed to do. Like use Sub-Zero's floor freeze and ice blast at the same time. Humans players can't do that, as you're locked from launching an ice blast when the floor has a frozen spot. But the AI is like 'nah man, screw that'.

18:02 Regarding the SNES game appearing "squished", this is likely due to your emulator displaying the game at the internal 8:7 square pixel ratio. When this is output to a CRT it's stretched into a 4:3 ratio. Mk: Deception, Armageddon. Yes I said it. Mk 2011, Mk2, Umk3, Deadly Alliance. I played them I love them all.

My earliest memory of MK was when my dad and brother were playing one of the games on the PS1. I can't tell you what was happening on the screen, all I can remember was something screeching like a dragon and it scaring the daylights out of my toddler self. I didn't touch another mortal kombat until over a decade later when my cousin got a super slim PS3 and a copy of MK9.

Huh, I was expecting the MK video to be closer to Halloween. I know it's not a horror game, despite the jumpsacres in more recent games, but I feel like the series is thematically appropriate.

The original MK trilogy were games I was always interested to play since every video game parody on the Internet back then used to reference those games specifically. While not my favorite games in the series, they definitely hold a special place in my heart for being some of the first video games with gore I've ever seen right next to the Ninja Gaiden 3D reboot and GOW.
