Johnny vs. X-Men Legends

Out of a lot of reviewers out there, I value Johnny a lot. He really gets down to the point, he can be funny when he wants, and something about him is just so welcoming, especially when his tag line is "have a good night" with that salute. Idk how I found you, but keep up the good work!

I legit laughed when you swapped Magma out for Iceman to build a bridge. Her second power, the molten rock spike attack, states in its description that it can build bridges too. Jean can also build bridges with her telekinesis (game logic). Storm, Rogue & Jean can all fly and once you reach the third dot in the flight ability your character can pick up teammates to lug them over gaps. Though rare in the first game, there are also a couple spots where you can just go around a different way. Ah, also don't forget that Nightcrawler's teleport can take people places, though this last one I will admit is far more fickle due to the fact he'll auto-lock to an enemy. They fixed that in the following game thankfully. That said, I respect your opinion. Shame you didn't care for the game that much.

Give Marvel, Ultimate Alliance a shot. It put much more depth into the RPG part of this style. It's one of my favorite games ever for many reasons, but the main is is because the about of team building options they give you is crazy. You can play each character in many different ways.

I was a mid-level fan when I started playing X-men Legends, and it helped me learn more about the series from what the movies and 90's show didn't touch upon. I think the point of the series was to help draw in new fans, and older ones were likely happy to just get a decent X-men game. Granted, that's just my two cents.

In defense of the Iceman bridge issue, there were other options with circumventing those tasks. You could create psionic or even magma bridges with Jean Grey and Magma respectively (both of whom were more interesting to have around than Iceman in my opinion). Not that that discredits any of the other issues you mentioned or even the issue that you're required to have one of a select pool of characters around to progress at certain times. Just thought that it was worth noting. Great video as always.

Maybe it was because I was a kid, but I used to LOVE X-men Legends 1 & 2. I liked how lengthy it was and loved all the different Environments and CHARACTERS with different powers. I also loved all the information on the characters in that universe, and would literally read and do every Trivia game. Plus it was a good time for gaming to me, because now if a game like this came out, you would have to pay for more characters other than the main four introduced. But some people look for other things in games, I get it.

Jon MacLennan I'll elaborate. The game may be the most fantastic thing to ever come out of a candy floss scented deitic fanny, but that doesn't excuse its price model. Buy the same exact game that you likely got last time we tried this, but unlike last time where you got three separate worlds to explore, you now get one and have to pay for the rest. Yeah you had to buy more worlds for the first game too, but you still got three worlds in one. It doesn't help either that they're giving the Marvel heroes their own play sets but absolutely nothing for the Disney characters, who probably get a unique level and a few set pieces for the excuse of a game mode that is the toybox. Now I wouldn't mind as much if Disney 2.0 was a sort of update on the original, where you could buy a version of the game that was cheaper if you already had the original figure pedestal and disc. But instead they charge even higher prices for even less of a game.

Seriously loving your reviews. John when you referred to this game being 'ugly', graphical wise, the developers purposely gave the game drawn out lines on the character models during gameplay to give it a comic book feel. As for the cutscenes.. Yeah. This game could do much better on that. Gameplay wise, I love it; gives it a beat em up + RPG feel. When it comes to character progression of Alison, she is just a bland character who is only useful in combat, nothing else about her is interesting. Character development should have been more of a focus on this game as well, same goes for Rise of Apocalypse. If Alison died after preventing Asteroid M from crashing into New York, I can honestly say I wouldn't feel any sadness regarding her death. Throughout the entire game she was just a hollow X-Man. After learning the Origins of Apocalypse on the internet after completing Legends 2, I loved the character. And you are right; they should have given him a backstory as to why he is an extreme Darwinist. Both games are great to me gameplay wise, but character development is pretty bad in the X-Men Legends games. Hoping that you read this; maybe you outta give the game another chance. Try the cheats. Replay it with a new team. 2nd chances are what most games need and often change the gamers mind.

My work around for the ice bridges was as follows: have flying character go over the gap, and other characters will magically appear at the other side. Or, have Jean create a psychic bridge.

Two thing's I'd like to point out. 1. Jean's Telepathy and Magma's Lava Rift can make Bridges too, so that can save time. 2. The reason that the X-Men left the astral plane was because, Shadow King relocated Xavier to a different sector of the Astral Plane, so rather than waste time, they began work on another important task, while the others began locating Xavier again.

Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine in the live-action movies. As far as voice-acting goes, Steven Blum is often the go-to voice of Wolverine in cartoons and video games. I think this game was a modern day version of the old rental games on snes. Think about it, a game that you play maybe a day or two before you have to return it but you have to go through 25 hours worth just to beat it. In that short amount of time, and with time spent not playing the game so it doesnt become a drag, it could become one of the funnest games a kid could play while growing up.

As a resident MARVEL guy, (Im also big on DC too.), I never played these games cause I wasn't really interested. I was more of a Ultimate spiderman, Marvel Ultimate alliance, etc kind of guy. You want to play an awesome Xmen game, btw? Id recommend "Xmen origins Wolverine", S**tty movie, but amazing, and under rated game. (Btw, im not looking forward to the Deadpool game on SGB. All I can say is, F**k that game.)

X-Men is one of those franchises to me that has a hard time making video games, because no one knows how to make it. Like you said, there are TONS of stories within the X-Men lore that would make a great RPG experience, but we always get the same generic stories over and over again. Also, I think the creators spend too much time emphasizing the powers of the X-Men rather than the personalities.

Johnny a pro tip for Legends. Jean, Alison, (and Magneto in Legends 2), can all create bridges. You can also use a flying or teleporting character to cross the gap and leave your team on the other side for a few seconds until you get to a save point and then get them back at the save point.

I didnt really mind X-Men Legends that much. It had its bad moments but one of the best moments was teaming Colossus and Wolverine together to achieve the fastball special. good times. Also, William Kincaid was more or less a secondary antagonist in comparison to Magneto, but he was the one who orchestrated Shadow King kidnapping Professor X and Juggernaut trying to destroy the Astral Gate

Starfox2009100 I'm surprised Johnny viewed Magento as the main villain in this, I always saw Kincaid as the jackass pulling the strings from behind the curtain even as a kid. The fact that we engage his GRSO soldiers and Sentinel manufactured by him throughout made me pay more attention to him than Eric, who fans already know from the films and cartoons (and of course comics, for the veteran fans).
