The thing is, The Wall is not funny. They don't even try to be funny. It is literally shaped up like a Walking Dead kinda post apocalyptic/humans having to rebuild society kind of scenario. The reason why it works is because it is a show inside a show. It's funny because there is all these epic things happening and they don't matter at all for the protagonists. If they did a spin off, it would lose this aspect and become just another regular animation series.

They could totally show the Dukes original rise while establishing the true mega villain of the show. One of the things I really like about the wall is that it knows how to balance out comedy with the more serious aspects of the show. Some of the most effective jokes, in my opinion, simply being from the absurdity of what’s happening compared to the serious nature of the characters. Like how when Tim kills people with instant shell in season 2, it’s at first kind of humorous to hear them screaming about chocolate but mere seconds later it is also seen how effectively brutal it is.

I started watching solar opposites because I saw some wall clips, and I honestly do enjoy the show, but I’m honestly kinda surprised the wall hasn’t been totally spun off into it’s own show with how popular it is. Although I’m not sure if that might end up hurting the quality of the wall plot line, and honestly I was also hoping we’d see a time skip for the wall, because I also had the thought of how the replicants would reach to seeing a kid in the wall (considering no kids is their one rule and they have no way of knowing the kid was born in the wall), I also genuinely hope Halk isn’t dead, I hope Cherie goes to a similarly dark place as the duke in order to save herself and her daughter by like idk burning it all down escaping, and sealing the hole, leaving Halk to try to pick up the pieces now feeling a similar betrayal and guilt that Cherie experienced in season 1. Like if he is still alive and does return AFTER Cherie “evil” arc that would play off the previous plot thread of his guilt about not saving everyone, saving the wrong people, and being the only person that could’ve stopped the church and vouched for Cherie since he was the only person outside the church that knew the truth and was the only other hero the wall had. It’s fascinating seeing the wall basically going through every type of government, anarchy, to a dictatorship, to a false utopia, to a democracy, now to a religious rule and potential religious monarchy, and potentially a post apocalyptic civilization if things turn out the way I think they’re going. But I also kinda think there are plenty of options to explore in the future like potential involvement from the replicants or the pupa, how despite seemingly creating a Utopia Tim didn’t clean up the lower levels and left an entire class of people in muck, there’s just so much that I’m so curious about and can’t wait to see explored. Really crossing my fingers they can keep that level of quality up, it contrasts so well with the dumb sci-go fun of the rest of the show, but I also hope they find a good way to resolve it before it starts to lose its magic

I enjoy the wall plot it is the only reason I even watch polar opposite, however, that last part where the church took over, to the point they can imprison cherie now, even though she became a kinda messiah figure herself, came out of left field. It feels like conflict for conflict sake and does not follow what was already set up before.
@Johnny2Cellos2 жыл бұрын
Hard disagree, they explicitly showed that the Church wanted a leader they could control while Cherie was upending the Wall’s government and political system. THey were not happy with what Cherie was doing, it’s all right there

No? They did a great job of setting up the church’s betrayal, I found myself getting nervous every time she handed Pezlie over to the Bowinians. Maybe you missed some hints, but the writers foreshadowed their intent _hard._

@@Johnny2Cellos true and I definitely agree the set up is there. My only gripe is that she was arrested in front of the people who elected her and no one seemed to care which seems a little contrived. Also I think her being a legendary historical figure in the wall’s history up until this point would give her word a little more weight when she’s yelling to a crowd of people that this is her baby. The entire crowd ignoring her and ignoring the news of the oldest nuns death does seem totally dumb and I didn’t like it. But I do like the added drama
@LowestofheDead2 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielarechavaleta7653 Yeah, they could've arrested her in secret, and convinced everyone that she needs to be quarantined for a mosquito disease from the lower levels.

Johnny, you forgot to mention that there were some people (at least two) who left the Wall through the hole, I really want to see what happens to them next season, did they get killed right away? Are they still out there? Will they come back?

I noticed that for season 3, there is no "throw-away" concepts. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. You can't launch an annoying neighbor into space without him getting picked up by the Green Lantern Corps. Whatever didn't come back in this season will come back in a later one. The algorithm, for example, is absolutely going to come back. Maybe not in season 4, we went a whole season without Mouse Guy, but it will be brought back around full circle eventually.

I'm still working on a 3 hour marathon of only clips of the wall. No solar opposites, just the wall scenes. It's like it's own movie, just getting the copyright for it to post it on youtube, but I can inv and send to "friends" on youtube even without the copyright yet

Holy smokes. I didn't put it together until you covered it in this video, but I'm wondering if the scene between Molly and the guy is a reference to a similar scene that happened in Lost. When Charlie was on the ship behind a Bulkhead and they had to watch him drown through the little port hole.

Out of all the things from this show, the Wall is my best favorite sub-plot and this is what gets me into it. It felt like I'm watching a cinematic masterpiece and I seriously can't wait for season 4. I knew they're going to bring season 4 since you know Solar Opposites is one of the most promotional shows on Hulu. They even mentioned in the episodes including Hulu Land.

The wall 100% feels like the solution to what the writers felt was a problem with rick and morty, it does serialized story but it's entirely unrelated to the "main characters" so the writers can do whatever the hell.

I loved and still do love the wall plot and it acted as the sole reason I kept returning to this show but after watching the dream episode in season 3 I truly believed it could and should have ended as a satisfying ending to the wall followed by some tied up loose ends after and an episode of the opposites figuring out the horrors they put these people through. It then could've been worked a round and replaced by the silver cops story line as so far it's coming off as very interesting but I just don't want the best part of this show to be milked for everything it's good for before having its dead corpse being further exploited like shows such as SpongeBob and family guy

Its smart writing. Especially in its cruelty. If a show or movie makes you feel for a character, that is rare. Its a funny but also hard to watch show because of that fact. The fact the leads of the wall episodes makes you want to make the typical leads die in the worst ways imaginable. Because they forced random people into hell for a whim. Its why I hate solar opposites and hope the ending is them dying in the most gory and drawn out ways imaginable. It did its job and made me hate the “gods” who could make you live in an aquarium.

My heart was not ready for Molly. I used to have a little brown mouse called Rizzo when I was but a wee lad, she was very well trained and would sit with me for ages on my shoulder, I'd leave a few sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds on my shoulder for her. She would voluntarily run up my arm if I put it in her tank.

My favorite thing about the Wall is how it tricks the audience in a way that exposes us for our implicit biases. I.E: Making us think Tim was the central protagonist of the wall when he never truly was. Sure, the premise of the society within the wall is established when Tim is put in there, but that doesn't make him the protagonist. That just makes him part of the setup. The story TRULY begins when Cherie is thrown in, because it's from there that we actually start learning about what the wall society is and how it works via Tim's exposition dumping. Also, if you really stop to think about it, Tim's plans tend not to work that well with the exception of Cherie's interventions. When the squad was trying to escape after they stole that Playboy they almost got caught and would have been if not for Cherie's Benihana skills. Tim literally tried to initiate his own escape from jail but was suddenly saved by Cherie. Then, finally, when Cherie wanted to give everyone in the wall a chance to escape, Tim betrayed her so he could hold on to his power and perceived holiness. From then on out it's Cherie's quest for revenge that is the focal point of the story. The show essentially criticizes it's audience by making Tim a sort of "red herring protagonist". He's not the hero everyone plays him up to be: he's a loser who got hooked on his power fantasy and wasn't prepared to let that go for the sake of everyone else. He rationalizes it by saying people could get eaten by owls, but at the end of the day he wasn't going to give up a life where he was essentially the biggest winner in the world. It has his life in the wall that made him everyone's favorite and got him laid by a super hot waitress. The "Tim Saga" is the wall's commentary on male power fantasy. It exposes the male viewer's narcissism for enjoying fiction that's so self flagellating: fiction that supposedly puts you in the shoes of the coolest most badass dude in the world who everyone either respects or falls to. In the end, Tim not only wasn't the most important person in the wall, he was a monster for believing that he was. And when you look back on everything you realize that he was never as competent or dependable as the narrative would have you believe, and that's by design. This is further reflected in the episode with his death: a dream sequence where the entire time you're watching it you can sense that something is off because now more than ever everyone around Tim, Cherie especially, is WAY too eager to congratulate him. Then the episode gets extra weird and that's when you realize that none of this really happened. It was just Tim's hallucinations. He was merely fantasizing about power up until the very end. Cherie was always the true protagonist. The story truly got started when she entered the wall. The heroes never progressed in their mission without her intervention. And we didn't see that she was the main character up until Tim's betrayal . . . .because the writer's knew that we are predisposed to think that the man is the protagonist while the woman, no matter how competent she is, is the man's prize. Truly brilliant.

Tim is basically either you die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain
