Hi I'm Johnny Cash...and before I start let me introduce my band. lol. He was a class act and never left anyone behind. He was a great man, and I miss him.

This is awesome. I mean, Haggard got his inspiration after Cash's concert at San Quentin. And then Cash sang one of Merle's songs. Just wow :')

Great version 👍 Johnny Cash is gone 15 years today and George Jones would've been 86 today 😢

Once again Johnny Cash takes someone's elses nicely writin song , and takes it to a new level. Even though Cash personally didn't write this song , Haggard has to be honored Cash made this song what it was.

The first thing I remember knowin' Was a lonesome whistle blowin' And a younger's dream of growin' up to ride On a freight train leavin' town Not knowin' where I'm bound And no one could change my mind but Mama tried One and only rebel child From a family, meek and mild My Mama seemed to know what lay in store Despite all my Sunday learnin' Towards the bad, I kept on turnin' 'Til Mama couldn't hold me anymore And I turned twenty-one in prison doin' life without parole No one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied That leaves only me to blame 'cause Mama tried Dear old Daddy, rest his soul Left my Mom a heavy load She tried so very hard to fill his shoes Workin' hours without rest Wanted me to have the best She tried to raise me right but I refused

Johnny Cash, been "covering your song better than you" since forever apparently. J/k I actually like Merl's version a bit better, but this is great. I'm sure y'all have heard his cover of Nine Inch Nails's "Hurt" and Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage", among many other that he absolutely killed! Man brought so much talent into the world. He is still missed.

Johnny once told Merle Haggard "Merle, you're really the guy that people think I am." referencing the urban legends that Cash had served hard time, based on his frequent prision concerts and his overall outlaw persona.
@Wajlonis11 жыл бұрын
It was really hard to make good music back when Johnny was still among us. People devoted their lives and talent to creating some decent songs, some songs (like this one) became legendary hits. And then Johnny would come, take any song and sing it million times better than the original performer. After you've heard Johnny Cash cover a song, the original tune didn't seem that good.
