I rode a Moldavian Soviet Era train from Bucharest to Chisinau overnight which I cannot recommend to anyone. It was by far the most uncomfortable train ride I've ever experienced, including the time I shared a 2 seat ticket with 4 people escaping from the war in Ukraine to Hungary. At least there we had fresh air and weren't woken up multiple times during the night for passport checks. Here's my overnight journey from Romania to Moldova on the worst train you can imagine, but hey, at least they had cold beers. Support the GoFundMe: gofundme.com/f/...

Did you even watch this video before you posted? It's appalling. You should be ashamed of yourself for going off, angrily, about how the train station '(and McDonald's) was so 'inconvenient' and 'inefficient' for you. You're in Romania and you are trashing the whole country because a train station was 'different' from what you had experienced in other places. You made a scene at effing McDonald's because it didn't cater to all your 'worldly' standards. Children aren't even allowed to act like that. Sounds like someone needs a 'time out' from vlogging to relax a bit and reflect on personal conduct and presentation.

As irritated as you got with waiting in long lines in such hot weather, you got the decades-old Romanian-Moldovan train travel. To be able to ride a Soviet era train- along with all the discomforts- is a truly wonderfully authentic experience. Accept and even embrace discomfort, because you are getting something real along with the majority of the locals. I can say this, because most of my traveling through the Middle East and Eastern Europe has been truly authentic and uncomfortable by Western standards.

😅 only happens to you...don't travel, simple. Then you have no issues and nothing to bitch about. Or buy an island in the middle of farking nowhere call it Johnny's World, set it up the way you want and then let life go by. Again old saying we had in the Army and applies to business too 'Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance'. As for the train, many enthusiasts ride it because it is from an age gone by deliberately, wait till winter when each carriage has the individual coal heaters going and the conductor is shovelling coal into them. For me that's fantastic and a slice of history.

I agree! Johnny just goes on an on complaining. Train travel is not going to be as high tech as flying. The paper tickets are part of the charm and it’s also difficult to use phones for tickets when you are entering different countries. You have to be flexible when you travel and not let every little difficulty upset you. The hand sanitizer was empty at McDonald’s. So what! It’s often empty everywhere. Johnny starts yelling when the sanitizer is empty and you can see it makes the other people uncomfortable.

The changing of wheels is a change in railway gauge. Romania uses the international standard (1435mm), whilst Moldova uses a bigger different gauge, the same gauge used in Russia (1520mm). Blame the Russian empire for that. They intentionally chose a different gauge to not be compatible with the rest of Europe, so that in the event of invasion, European trains could not easily be used in the Russian network.
@captainbadger1013
@captainbadger1013 2 жыл бұрын
The UK had both broad and narrow gauge for many years. The two most prominent railway builders in the UK were Brunel and Stephenson. Brunel believed his 7ft 1/4 in broad gauge rail would mean faster and smoother journeys, proven by its success on his Great Western Railway linking Paddingon with South West England. George Stephenson favoured 4ft 8 1/2 in between the rails, based on the needs of the horses and carts for which the early railways had been built. For many years the UK had 3 rails so both gauges could work on the same line and the last broad gauge was removed in 1892.

Johnny I think for international tickets there are different standards and different types of electronic readers depending on the country you are travelling through so that’s why I don’t think you can get a Romanian electronic ticket, it won’t work in all countries, especially in Moldova which is outside the EU. For travelling inside Romania I can assure you you can get a qr code ticket on your phone, you don’t need to wait inline or print anything. You should have asked for information at one of info kiosks before you went to stay in line. I don’t want to defend the Romanian railway company because it is indeed terrible but I think you have some of the blame, you should have asked for info and planned the trip better.

Gara de Nord could have been better organized though. For instance, if you go to Otopeni airport you can clearly see where you need to go for domestic flights and where you can go to take the international ones. I know I am kinda comparing apples to pears but CFR (the state operator) could have easily delimitated the booths by i.e. mounting a panel where it would say "domestic only" and "domestic/international" to delimitate the sectors accordingly.

The train is property of Repubilc of Moldova (poorest country in Europe). They have different rail tracks and virtual no IT infrastructure connected to Romania due to: them being invaded by Russians for almost a century. Us being in EU, they not. They require printed tickets (the only ones so it is a special service just for them (an a single office). Having huge numbers in lines is due to touristic season (is summer, everybody travels, not all know how to buy e tickets). Having a line at Mac Donalds - i guess there are many people that eat shit food. The bun being small? It has a lot of calories already even so. 25 years ago, I was at a train station in Tianjin China to buy a ticket. I was horrified to see at least 500 people (maybe 1,000) packed inside the large hall trying to get to the counter. There was no line. After about 30 minutes of pushing and shoving, I got to the front of the counter only to be told that foreigners have to go upstairs. When I went upstirs, there was an empty waiting room with nice sofas for foreigners only. Later I learned that I paid four time the price for the locals. I had horrible experiences in Russia in the early 90’s as well. People who lived in communist countries are trained to wait. They don’t seem to value time very much.

Probably not simply stressed due to the heat in the building and being forced to wait in "pointless" lines. Whether you are consciously aware of it or not, I would pin a majority of the stress you are feeling on knowing that you are going back "home" and all the possible (good or bad)scenarios that run parallel with this endeavor. It's stressful how much you put on your (proverbial) shoulders at times, how many people you take care of and the love that you stretch so thin that I'm truly surprised you have enough to give yourself any at the end of the day. It's a good thing you are a sturdy fella and have some strong shoulders; so many count on you, people, pets, your family and friends. We love you Johnny, I hope you know this... Slava Ukraini

@@jyee2217 yeah that's all cool but then don't cry like a little baby and blame a whole nation if being prepared is not your thing. Man got histerical with the lady at the front desk, nobody said the system is perfect but he was expecting to get his ticket scanned on train while travelling outside the country on a Moldovan train. There are check-ups to be done before travelling to another country so yes it's not as easy as that. @@jyee2217 It isn't a matter of waiting to have everything researched. it is a matter of taking a few minutes to find out how to most easily take the next step. Hi Johnny....great video! As a train enthusiast, I really appreciate these kinds of images you show us. As for the wheels, the entire piece of equipment which includes the wheels, axles and frame around them are called "Trucks" in America. In Europe, it's called a "Bogie." Russia's railway gauge is 5'-0", while much of Europe, including the US is 4'-8 1/2". And the latter is generally considered a world-wide standard. There are exceptions, of course, but that is why they needed to change the trucks from the standard gauge to the wider Russian gauge as it arrived at the border. You know, people in the USA gripe and complain about Amtrak, but...it still seems a lot better than this. Keep up the great work!!

- Having lived in Bucharest for 2 years as an expat, I can attest it can be quite chaotic at Gara de Nord. Rode the train to Brasov multiple times and still confused every single time! :) Good thing there are kind Romanians that guide us where our wagon/seat is actually at. Never had an incident fortunately. - Yes, you have to pay extra for every packet of condiments not only Mcdonalds, but on other Fast food chains as well. :D - We usually just take a screenshot of the ticket once we book the ticket from CFR Calatori, and that's what we show to the Train Conductor during inspection. We never had to fall in line at the ticket stands. This was between Mar 2019 to Mar 2021 so not sure if anything has changed. (Same thing for my friends who visited from Dubai and Armenia, they just booked online too, never had to fall in line at the Bilete.) - "Noroc" = Cheers! Have a great time in Chisinau

Johnny FD has profited from the Ukrainian war, every thing he's done it's been put on KZbin and sold as a kind hearted deed. He's a cultural capitalist in this sense, his subscribers have increased and his social net worth within that culture. It's a little bit like rainbow capitalism. But this video was so imperialistic, comparing Romanian McDonald's to American ones, saying that it's the worst train, worst train station he's ever been too- again imperialistic. I originally liked him when he was with bald and bankrupt but during the Ukrainian war, he's just a fake, colouring himself with the Ukrainian crisis and profiting in the process

Why are you so angry. Instead you could have asked advice from other people, who understand the language and the travel system. You don’t travel to find identical conditions everywhere. It is just a couple of hours. You should try London Heathrow during holiday time or entering U.K. as a foreigner. You need to chill, even if things don’t make sense to you. And especially not vent on women who are just doing their job.

@@JohnnyFD maybe it is hardly ever in order any day, who knows. She is still a human being and as such deserves not to have people vent at her. You then went on to be completely so irritable and angry that you ran down the whole country for about a third of your video, you do not know how over entitled that made you look, like a spoiled child. Yet you make your living by travelling to such places. In my country if you went into post office to buy a stamp and you treated a person like that you would have the shutter pulled down on you after being told not to be abusive. It is simply not regarded as ok at all.
