Will you certainly aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed… those green circles that you see that’s called farming and anyone with a set of eyes can look and see that those exact farming practices are used all over the world, especially in places where they don’t get large amount of rain they use a central pivot watering system that goes around and around and provides water for that one area so that they can produce crops in the desert without overly wasting water ..

I don't think there is a single resource out there that shows these lovely people in their element. You instantly face social problems. There will be class divisions based on who lives how high. Who would wanna live near the bottom with limited access to sunlight. Who would want to live near the sewage plants. Its not like you can just 'avoid living' near such areas since the entire city is just a line

I'm seeing in future, after observing the contrast you've shown in this video, people will come to visit the natural scenery and aurora with the high tech cities. I find comments like these particularly interesting and rooted in western exceptionalism and subconscious bigotry. The very fact that you are online and commenting on a video is testament to the fact that humans incline toward progress and technology. This is the same reason why rural American towns are shrinking as people move to urban areas to seek better opportunities. Why should desert Arabs be any different? What is Dubai? It’s a cosmopolitan city that flexes like any major metropolitan city in the world.

@@AmusementPerks No! Dubai wasn't wasting money, resources, and energy. Dubai was doing what's needed. Dubai went havoc when they started building artificial islands. They aren't able to sell them. Most of them are still empty. Saudi Arabia and neom has the same issue. There are no investors and nobody wants to live there, except he's offered a lot more. Nobody wants to live in a hot desert where they need to waste energy for cooling when you can live in Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, and the US. It's a pipe dream. They will build some smaller version and be done with it. It happened to every other mega project too. There must be a necessity for it to be profitable.

I met a Christian Bedouin tribe when I was serving in the Iraq War. Even though I was an American soldier they treated me/us with absolute kindness and hospitality. They brought us into their sitting tent and served us chai, and if you know anything about Iraqi chai, you know it’s some of the best tea you’ll ever taste. Just perfection! They insisted we stay for dinner, and as we ate, we shared stories of our lives through our interpreter. One thing I found super interesting is that different tribal clans are ranked socially by who herds the most prestigious animals, with camels being the highest, followed by sheep and goats. Also unlike Muslim Iraqis, Christian Bedouin women hold significant roles in the clan. They also hand craft some of the most amazingly beautiful and intricate tapestries I’ve ever seen. This was right outside the ancient ruins of Babylon, and while I sat there so many thoughts and emotions came over me. I could literally feel the history. The beginnings of civilization, all the battles fought over thousands of years, the people that have lived and traveled there throughout time. I feel like I am now part of that history forever, even if I was there militarily. The Bedouin carry the torch of that history in semblance, and by living the way their people have for millennia. A hard working, family oriented people, that deserve our respect and appreciation for being the integral stewards of Mesopotamia and other lands they inhabit. It’s one of my favorite memories of Iraq, and an experience I will never forget. Even in an ugly war, humanity will always find its way. I hope one day that relations between the west and Iraq are normalized and restored to the point that I can visit the places I loved again, and show my family.

Really enjoyed the video-great cinematography and an interesting look into Bedouin culture. Just a small note: Muslims pray facing the Kaaba, so from northwest Saudi, the direction would be more south than east. The comment about facing west while they face east during their prayer felt a bit unnecessary and out of place. That said, it’s clear a lot of effort went into this, and overall, it was very well done!

It will most likely be finished but definitely not at the level they are envisaging it currently at such grand scale. I think it will be descaled massively in the future like all of their projects, originally the burj Khalifa was meant to be mile high it is just half that. Also the artificial islands were meant to be much more spectacular than what the finished product came to be, impressive regardless.

So animations fooled you? lol ... Neom can't look like in the animations. It would be too wasteful and unprofitable. Also, who came up with the line? The line is the most wasteful geometry. Just imagine the infrastructure. It will take forever to go from one end to the other. You will need so much more resources to build it and the maintenance will be terribly expensive. The square is the optimal geometry. That's why no city in the world is a line but square like. But I don't expect much from people on the internet. Most of you aren't scientists or have a scientific education. So you're fooled by animations like this. This is as stupid of an idea as building islands in front of an empty desert. And just as with the islands, neom will fail (yes, the islands failed, most of them are still empty and wait for an investor).

This is so well done. I found myself watching less and less of Johnny Harris lately for reasons I’m uncertain of. Maybe it shifted too much from the Vox-like style I’d come to love and today… over an hour ago, as this appeared on my Suggestions, I decided the topic was interesting enough (and I had heard enough negatives about ‘The Line’) that I might as well find out… “WHY?” and goodness, did you give me an answer in a 30 minute documentary that felt too short, perfectly paced, beautifully shot, and so grounded in what made Johnny Harris’s videos so good that I referenced you as a model for educational content done right in a Keynote I presented in 2021. Well done team… maybe, just maybe I’ll go back to giving all those other videos a try. Feels good to be back.

Although there's a lot of understandable negativity around the project I do hope it achieves good for humanity, I'm not knowledgeable on the project specifically but I do have experience with the Red Sea Project (another megaproject next-door to Neom) and I saw a genuine care for worker's rights and sustainability, we installed huge solar farms to power the project and we had marine biologists on site to make sure we didn't disturb nature, we also reached 6.5M (collective) work hours without a worker injury. I had my concerns when these projects were announced as to their legitimacy or how likely they were, but with time I really did see genuine progress and care.

I'm from Saudi and I have friends engineers who have done studying of the area, the area is known from a long time that it is extremely rich geologically، geographically and biologically, it is inbetween three continents, with possibility to reach it within 8 hours from most places on earth, there are ALOT of oil, minerals and natural resources in the area, the idea is to having a city nearby so they can create industries and plants for all of these resources while making it attractive place for tourists and entrepreneurs, it is an idea for a revolution in the area. Of course that is the idea, all the projects are low risk except the line, so the success chances and fulfilling of the potential of the area depends a lot on it, but the area will remain with unbelievable high potential whether the line is successful or not.

It has some MAJOR flaws. You could create an environment which houses similar amount of people in a circular ciry just 5 square km big, but i guess "The Circle" doesn't sound as appealing as "The Line"

For me personally, this is the best Johnny Harris video. Not because of the edits, not because of the main subject matter… …but because he humbly immersed himself into the culture among the people of the land.
