Correct there are a few manufactures. Senci, rato, liphan, dinkin and more. All utilize Yamaha mz80 clones or older Honda gx line engines. But some are better than others but not by much. Your paying for slightly better electronics and customer service and warranty. And of course cool options.

Believe it or not that is very good info. No doubt the Honda is the Cadillac of generators but I have been looking at Champion and it is something I will not use very much at all. Reliability has always been front and center of my concerns. Your comment saved me from hearburn. For $640 I can buy a 2300w Champion with propane and to do the same with a Honda 2200W I have to add $260 for propane. Why propane. If the SHTF gasoline will disappear immediately buy propane less so. Also propane does not go bad when stored. For the price of the Honda and propane conversion I could have two Champion dual fuel gens and money left over.

Excellent video! I have the Champion Inverter Generator (model 100306) myself. I bought it as a backup to my 22 year old 4KW Coleman Powermate generator. My thought process was to use the Champion at night to run the furnace (forced hot air propane) or my pellet stove. Other loads like lighting (virtually all LED) and some electronics don't add up to all that additional load. During summer months, the unit should easily carry the fridge on eco mode and run about 10 hours per gallon.

One thing that is not mentioned in many tests is perceived loudness based on tone. The honda's tend to have a lower tone and even if the db rating is the same they can be less annoying. I have bought several inverter generators for myself and family recently and I like to employ my wife and son to turn their back as I run generator A and then compare to generator B and ask which one they feel is the quietest. Its a good way to get a non-biased opinion.

If there is no fuel in it technically you winterized it. So I’m theory it should be ready to go once fuel is added. But for other odd reasons there are times when items with engines after they sit for years will sometimes not run or not run correctly..🤷‍♂️ I have never had a item with a engine sit for more then maybe a couple years and that’s my chainsaw. Everything else I fire up once in a while. But I’m a motor guy so I like to run things. And most people always say to to run generators once in a while. But again I have seen things fire up that are years old and haven’t ran in years and maybe a tune up and they are good to go. So in all do what you think will work for you. If you wanna run it every six months do it. But make sure to drain the fuel if letting it sit for a long time.
@jshepard152
@jshepard152 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnysweekends I appreciate the reply. I suspect what you said is spot on. In theory, it'll be fine sitting with no fuel. In reality, it's probably better to run than not to run. I think I'll figure out how much fuel it needs to run a couple hours and do that a couple times every year.

i have run a Champion 2000w inverter generator 16 hours daily for the last 3 years and they're constantly clogging up if you run it in eco mode for too long. Additionally, shutdown in eco mode or even shutting it down on high might make it hard to start back up if you don't use the fuel valve to do so - that's after hundreds of hours of runtime. All generators are pretty good for a little while but it's only after 500hours that you really see the reliability.

Some of these generators are set rich. Also if always on eco running low loads your generator is never building enough heat. Which In turn will build carbon up and foul your plug quicker. So you may need to change it more often. Pull your plug and see what it looks like. And maybe run it off eco mode once in a while to build some heat.

We just had six days with no power in Austin. That 2kW Champion saved us thousands of dollars as it ran two refrigerators, only stopping two times in six days. One day it ran out of gas as I overslept. Second time, I stopped it after three days to change oil. We also had 3kW inverting Champion which we used for heater and for me to log in to work. 3kW was somewhat overkill though, much louder and harder to move around. After ordeal I bought Honda 2200i Companion. Having two smaller ones and one back up makes me more comfortable. Couple years ago there was similar situation but, we were not affected. They can also be used for camping or some land we own with no utilities. The only think irritating is getting some misterious oil leaks that I couldn't locate. They come and go. I thought I maybe overfilled but I'm careful.

@@richarde1355 If I didn't have critical need to keep refrigirators running, I would just go with Champion. You can buy two and still be ahead of one Honda. Champion also has great US based customer support. I called them couple times with questions for my other generator. The reason I bought Honda is that after reading some comments from technicians who maintain small generators that are being used and abused and they all pretty much say that long term Honda is way better than any other off brand. I'm finding some small metal shavings in oil of Champion which doesn't give me much confidence. My experience with Honda engines (car and motorcycle) is that they are cleanest of other comparable engines after same usage (I had bunch and still do). Also, Japanese electronics beat all other. Since money is not an issue at this point in my life and having critical need, I'm more comfortable with Honda. I see very rare need to run them together. Even on my travel trailer I installed Easy Start gadget so, I can run A/C (13.5k btu) with single 2000W gen. The oil leaks on two of my Champs are puzzling though.

I ran two of those champion generators. Overall its got a solid motor and inverter, the two big ticket repair items. Did have to replace both carbs but i run them hard. I did find a flaw in the construction that they both have, its the connection of the carburetor air intake tube to the air filter box, both generators 2000w model the tube warped and pulled out of the airbox allowing unfiltered air in, they both also suffered oil blow by on the rings leaking inti airbox at around 100-200hrs. But i keep adding oil and running it and they both have thousands of hours on them now, new pull ropes and carbs. They both need carbs again and pull ropes. Im going to try heating upnthe aur inlet tubes and seeing if i can get it back in abd then plastic weld it so it csnt seperate again. Also many champion parts out of stock. If you want quality running machine and great build quality get honda everything else is inferior when it comes down to it. Also running performance is better on honda, it reacts to loads faster and handles start up loads better.

I commented previously. Another good video. I am a Champion buff and like to see the comparisons. There is one thing I want you to check out.... You showed the parallel kit for the Champion. The one you show is for an older model that required the data cable. The new Champion does not require the data cable. At least I don't see an attachment point. Double check that. I noticed, the Honda drops the voltage as the load increases. Thanks again for a great comparison!!!!

If you‘re charging batteries (via multiplus) it’s normal that current drops towards the end. especially if you have lead acid batteries (higher internal resistance). the charger regulates the current/voltage according the charging state. high current + low voltage at the bulk phase, low current + high voltage at the absorbing phase.

Honda gets all the way up to 18,5 amps and stays there and after 2100 watts load the voltage drops below 110V. Champion is really limited to 1800 watts as it shuts off very quickly after that level. The amps are at 15,5A and voltage 115V. It seems the Champion is set to higher cutoff voltage than the Honda. You mentioned that the Honda is promised to run at max 2000W level for about 20 minutes. Test numbers support that, at least it can easily go over the continuous 1800W level without problems. As Champion cutoff was at lower load, it probably did not push the engine to the limit thus resulting to slightly lower noise levels. Your test has a slight error there - you should have compared the noise at equal loads rather than close to the cutoff point. One thing to consider is the engines in the generators. Champion seems to use a Chinese manufacturer's Chongqing Dinking Power Machinery Limited's 79 (80) cc engine. Chinese small engines are notorious for poor reliability, serviceability, availability of parts etc. With Google search sellers for the carburetor in that engine pop up, which to me suggests it is a common spare part for that engine. Honda, well it is Honda and is known for reliability and part availability globally. The 2000i has a 98,5 cc engine, which probably will be less strained then the smaller Champion engine at equal load levels. For people looking for a new generator like I am, the Honda has now the 2200i, which has the 121 cc engine. Honda also has much better service features such as easy setup for long time storage. Champion is old school with several mechanical procedures required to get the generator ready to be stored. I prefer the reliable, easy to use and maintain equipment. And as my dad used to tell me: "A poor man cannot afford to buy cheap".

Well they do have a new champion and of course new Honda. Although champion still using a 80cc Yamaha clone engine the Honda now uses the newer gx120 at 121cc. Well it depends. I think champion is great for there customer service and warranty but how much power do you need?? Because you may need a bigger model or maybe two of these. Just depends how much power you need. After doing this for a while and seeing all the feedback I have heard problems with all of them. One thing with owning a business is the need for write offs so you could buy a more expensive brand. Only problem people love to steal the little ones as they are easy to carry. So in short answer yes champion would be fine but get a size where your not running it at 75% power and more the whole time.

I would find the best deal you can with the most watts as there are always sales. Champion is one of the better models especially for warranty and customer service from viewers comments. Some people here have ran there generators non stop for days only to stop them to change the oil. Service is key and also not running them at max or near max loads all the time. Most of the time the engines will run along time but the electrical is what fails. Try for a 2500 watt or maybe even a little more if you can.

I wish people that are reviewing these would stop worrying about “Quiet & DB Rating” because there’s now several of these that are now Quiet Inverter Generators and of course there’s going to be a DB Winner, but that’s not important when you need the power and if you really need super quiet then you probably should be looking at a different path like all battery or solar. What usually ends up being the problem with one being quieter than the other is the plastic shroud that can easily be helped with some stick-on thermal insulation or a “Gen-Box” to cover the entire unit. Just my thoughts…
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends 3 жыл бұрын
People always find ways to make these even quieter. And again if you have it around grass or bushes, hopefully nothing dry or to close it will dampen the sound. But when you need power you get what you need to get. And as far as solar and battery the price just isn’t there yet. Getting there but not yet. I have solar and batteries…👍🏼

Champion models come with a planned design flaw and that is their starter recoil assembly. They are made completely of plastic and after a couple of months of daily cranking they break. Each time Champion USA was out of stock and I.had to order the replacement recoil assemblies from Champion CA. Finally I got so fed up, I leave the bolts out of the starter side cover and just wrap the rope out of one of the broken assemblies around the crank shaft and pull it like an old timey boat motor. I refuse to buy another since they only last a couple months of daily cranking. That's my 2 cents...

Just so you know the more hours you put on a generator the louder will be the Honda is definitely quieter then the champion after you run the champion for a couple hundred hours it will be about five decibels louder than the Honda you are comparing a generator that has been used enough to make it ten decimals louder then when it was brand as a generator gets used it will get louder as time goes on the Honda generator will go from 65 decimals to 75 decimals and the champion will go from approximately 70 to 80 I have done the same test with two generators brand new and then purchasing two more planned new and even having two more brand new for a total of six generators in the test the results are always the same

Id rather pay $450 then $1100 for a 5-10 decibel difference.

Both of these generators have over a hundred hrs… the Honda I believe has 300 ish and the champion maybe close to 200…. Pretty equal test And I don’t believe they can increase 10….10 db or decibels btw as most only increase about 3 max from new if not even less as I’ve tested beaters and new.

Nice video, but you forgot to mention the commission you get on your links when someone buys a generator. Remember that only the Honda has replacement parts available. Only the Honda is a lifetime tool. Buy once, cry once. A mechanic with Chinese tools has three times the grief and aggravation as one with American tools. I've had a dozen Honda generators for over 30 years. Every cheap brand I've bought is in the garbage.

Yes parts for Honda seem to be really easy to get but many viewers have reported back that they have gotten replacement items for the champion model generators. Now can they get all items I don’t know but I hear really good things about their customer service. Affiliated links are mentioned in description below...👍🏼😃

Many Hondas are manufactured in China too. And the old, unsubstantiated comments about reliability and parts availability don't cut it. I've owned very cheap Chinese ATVs that were readily repaired and serviced by the local small engine shop. My current Champion generator far outperforms the Yamaha it replaced. I guess if I paid the big bucks, maybe I'd be inclined to make those statements too. I dunno.

@@gwwj No Honda generators are manufactured in China. If I could only earn enough for junk tools, I'd consider another profession.

@EE GG actually not entirely accurate….. some are now manufactured in China, how ever a smaller percent, but I see that number changing thru the years possibly.

gwwj made in china does not mean amything as long as it is still honda and enforces honda standards. Like iphones are made in china but designed in CA, US. I havenet heard anyone complain iphone is low quality. It is really about the quality control instead of place of manufacturing.
