She has said that she’s not a singer who writes her songs…she’s a songwriter who sings her songs. That distinction sums her up.

The folklore and evermore albums, not all songs are about her. But, my tears ricochet is about her, and Scott Borchetta ( he was like family, she signed with him when she was a teenager) he sold her first 6 albums out from under her, referencing stolen lullabies. The jewels she gave him were her albums that went platinum, gold, and diamond.

You just nailed the biggest reason why she is my favourite singer, apart from being my favourite songwriter; her vocal delivery and inflections of her songs/lyrics/words and also the emotion she excudes. That is why I love all her music and her voice. And also the reason why it is so hard for other musicians to sing(cover) her songs, because they lack her magic delivery.

Folklore and Evermore are my favorite albums from Taylor. I think this is the type of song that makes her voice shine and her poetic lyricism creates amazing pieces of art 💜
@carolynnewcomb21538 ай бұрын
certain lyrics could be interpreted as being about the intense fallout between Swift, Scott Borchetta, Scooter Braun, and Big Machine. When they sold her music without giving her the chance to buy the masters. When she talks about stolen lullabies and you had to kill me but it killed you just the same, and she can go anywhere she wants just not home (which could mean where she recorded all her music and all the people who were like home to her) -just to point out a couple lyrics.

4:00 - 4:35 - Taylor is still living / feeling these emotions. 😢 At the Live Shows on The Era’s Tour these lines are delivered differently but the emotions are still so strong. “I can go anywhere I want, anywhere I want JUST NOT HOME” (last 3 words sung with intensity). And, “And I still talk to you, when I’m SCREAMING AT THE SKY” (last 4 words sung in agonising cry while looking up to the heavens). It still hurts her.💔

You can tell how she transports into the emotional core of the song when she performs. That beyond anything else is what elevates her live performances. You saying you are surprised to relate to Taylor, and that makes me think you should really check out the 1989 tour performance of we are never ever getting back together. It gives yet another very different example of her range with a reimagining of a well known song.

She has the most uncanny ability to visualize and execute these tremendously complex stories and narratives and distill them into little doses of experience. You F E E L it. Whatever “it” is that she’s going for and she’s unerring in her choices because she trusts her audience. She believes in our ability to get all the intricacies and easter eggs and musical experiments and risks she takes. I ❤ her but I love that she respects and trusts her audience . She works so hard to give everything she has got to give. And in a delightfully nerdy manner! She’s as real as they come imo. Signed, VT Oma Swifty

Her performance of Dear John from her Speak Now Tour in 2011 shows the same emotive delivery you see here, but with a powerful production and delivery. I don't cry listening to the studio version, but that live performance gets the tears flowing and the goosebumps rising lol. Even if only for yourself & not a video, I highly recommend checking it out. It's great insight into how she's put her whole soul into her performances even at such a young age.

Taylor writes or co-writes all of her songs, produces about half of her songs and directs some of her videos. She plays a six string acoustic guitar, 12 string acoustic guitar, electric guitar, paino, banjo and ukulele. She has her own production and management companies. She re-recorded her first 6 albums to gain control of her music. She signed her first contract at 15. She took on Apple Music and Spotify around a decade ago. Apple was giving consumers a free 3 month trial period but not paying the artists during that time period. Taylor wrote Apple an open letter saying something like artists work is valuable, the people behind the scenes are valuable and need to be paid for their work. She doesn't expect Apple employees to work for free and they shouldn't expect any artist too. She is immediately removing her music from Apple until all artists are paid for their work. She also said she has no problem with the free trial period for fans. In less than 24 hours Apple put out a public statement saying We Hear You Taylor and Agree. Effective Immediately All Artists Will Be Paid During The 3 Month Trial Period. I don't remember exactly the Spotify issue but it had to do with artists royalties. They took quite a bit longer to change things. Like, I said this was a decade ago so streaming has changed since then. She sings in multiple genres. She didn't tell her record label she switched genres again and made two albums during Covid until a week or two before she released the first one. It was Folklore then it's sister album Evermore. She self financed both. She also would only sign with a record label(after her first one) that agreed to let ALL of the artists on their label keep more in streaming or something like that. She is signed to Universal/Republic. She listens to her gut and knows her worth. She is very involved in every single detail of her career. Her Mom was a marketing executive so she does most of that, her Dad was a head honcho at Merrill Lynch, not just a stockbroker. They are both #2 in her 11 companies. She is on the highest grossing tour in history right now. You should listen to 1. All Too Well, 10 minute, lyric version. 2. Her SNL performance of False God 3. Carolina(from the movie Where the Crawdads Sing). She loved the book, several years later she found out it was being made into a movie. It is set in 1950 in North Carolina. She wrote the song and used only instruments made before 1953 and sent the song to the author and producer with a note about how much she loved the book and was inspired to write the song when she found out it was becoming a movie. She hoped they loved it as much as she did and hoped it could be a part of the movie. Who the heck does that? It is an excellent song. Most critics said it should have been nominated and won an Oscar. 4. We are Never, Ever Getting Back Together live from the 1989 Tour. It is pop/rock. Much better than the original pop version. 5. No Body, No Crime more of the Country Taylor. 6. Any songs from the Lover Concert(Live from Paris). It is all acoustic in a smallish venue. Last month she played in Melbourne, Australia for 3 nights straight 96,000 people per night. Just a little info since you are a metal artist and not too familiar with Taylor.

She is definitely a very personal songwriter, but this album and Evermore were both explorations in creating characters and writing things that were no doubt informed by personal experiences, but also not strictly confessional. Also, she says at another place in this film that she learned from Aaron Dessner that his bandmate Matt Berninger of The National doesn't only write about one person or one experience a lot of the time and that she's taken that on as well. I think that's a brilliant way to craft a fabulous song!
