How do you know what my grandma's purse smelled like? So you're the one who was stealing from her. The cops are on their way. You shouldn't have recorded yourself confessing. Does your cereal book cover all the awesome prizes inside the boxes?

Even as a die hard Genesis owner and fan, I knew by 1996 the PS1 was the much better purchase than the Saturn. Sega had burned so much consumer good will and Sony made seemingly the perfect console for the time and had a ton of 3rd party support right out of the gate.

The PS1 just felt different from other Consoles, bringing Arcade quality convertions of Ridge Racer and Tekken to the home while also making new smash hits like Wipeout, Sony's PlayStation certainly Started with a bang. The PS1 era is probably my favourite time in gaming, good times.

I wasn't going to get a Playstation at launch. I got the Saturn in May 1995 already during the early release, but right before it launched i got to play a Japanese Playstation and knew i had to get it. I got it on launch day with Battle Arena Toshinden. I was 15 but had a workers permit and bussed tables, so id been saving up for a car. I had to take from that savings, but it was totally worth it, lol.

The 90s was such an insane time for gaming. First going from NES to the Genesis and Super Nintendo to kick the decade off was such a huge leap and then just 5 years later we get the wave of the 3D consoles. Capping off the decade with the wonderful Dreamcast with the ability to connect to the internet and support games like Shenmue that still hold up well today in many areas.

Not only did I pick up a Playstation in 1995 but I got mine on 9/9/95! I actually bought my Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation that same day. I was so excited for the 3D revolution that I jumped in with both feet first. I'm glad I did because too me, the 5th generation was the absolute best. Addendum- Like you Riggs I had to do some trading to get my consoles. I gave EB my Sega Genesis/Sega CD, Snes, and Atari Jaguar to get both consoles at the same time. My two launch games for the Playstation were Battle Arena Tpshimden and Ridge Racer. For my Saturn I had Virtua Fighter (pack-in), Panzer Dragoon, and Robotica. I did get a memory card for the PSX but I didn't buy a memory cart for the Saturn as it came with internal memory. I wouldn't get a memory cartridge for the Saturn until way into 1996.

I have a fun story regarding Cyber Sled: The last time I went to an arcade in my hometown as a kid they had Cyber Sled set up as a featured game, two sit down positions with dual joysticks each (the joysticks control the left and right engines) and it was 75 cents to play, back when even the sit-down driving games were only 50 cents per play. I took a chance on it though and I turned out to be a NATURAL. Dad left me at the arcade for about 45 minutes and by the time he came back I had only spent $1.50 on two 15-minute-long plays of that machine, about a dollar on some random games, and still had $17.50 worth of quarters in my pocket! :D

I totally forgot PS1 was a music player. I remember putting CDs in mine and playing it while I slept with the TV brightness turned way down(like a night light). The Ace Combat games are freaking awesome. Probably the GOAT of flying games(not counting Rouge Squadron games). PS1 was great! I had an action replay that let me play burned games. I didn't take advantage of that nearly as much as I should have, but it let me play Fire Pro Wrestling, and DBZ games.

Can't wait for the 1996 video about the PS1, which for some reason is considered a controversial year. That was the only year customers could get advantage of a real competition against the Saturn and, IMHO, while the Sega console was an arcade ports beast, the PS1 was still deciding if being a strong console or a poor PC.

The Sony PlayStation was when I truly became a bigger gamer! While I loved my NES and SNES I had those during my childhood when I didn’t have enough money to buy games, my parents rarely got me any for birthdays or Christmas, and I usually borrowed from friends. I had PlayStation when I got a job and could buy games and memory cards to expand my gaming library! And what an impact that would have on me for the rest of my life: especially when games like Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid eventually came out!

I got a PS1 and played the hell out of the demo disc that came with it. I remember it had Intelligent Qube, an F1 racing game, Crash Bandicoot and something else.. My first PS1 was when they initially released it with a Dual Shock controller.. whatever year that was 🤔

Honestly I didn’t play PS1 on release day because the year after I was saving money for the fun machine but I did got a PS1 along with games like loaded, total eclipse turbo, mortal kombat 3, jumping flash, wipeout, gex, rayman, tekken, wrestlemania and twisted metal

Totally agree on Twisted Metal battle royale game. Seems like an easy way to print money.

I absolutely support the idea of Jumping Flash for PSVR! Let's get a NEW WipEout, too!

Gex was fun! I think the character was voiced by Kevin McDonald from Kids In The Hall. 😃👍🏼

I'm not 100% sure, but after watching John Riggs for a number of years, I feel like the major attraction is his overwhelming positivity
