"The ideas that underpin our modern world-meritocracy, equality before the law, property rights, religious toleration, modern secular education, sound finances, and so on-were championed, consolidated, codified and geographically extended by Napoleon. To them he added a rational and efficient local administration, an end to rural banditry, the encouragement of science and the arts, the abolition of feudalism and the greatest codification of laws since the fall of the Roman Empire. @4:10 we see it as arrogance now because it was his TREMENDOUS success that caused him to make a series of bad decisions, the largest of which being his invasion of Russia....but, through his entire military career, he had achieved so much success so regularly....I find it hard to believe you or I or anyone would be able to avoid that line of thinking. I mean...to this day, his record as a military commander is unprecedented when put up against many of the other great military leaders like Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great. When compared to them, he has so many victories in such a competitive era of warfare...he is truly in a class of his own. I mean, his prowess on the battlefield caused EVERY European power to rethink the way they fought...that is seldom found elsewhere in history.

As a fellow GEN X ER . I am Thankful that this Ridley Scott directorial storytelling will be viewed on the big screen. Dolby for me I like to keep my legs up I’m spoiled. Interestingly what stood out for me was your reaction to the seen where Napoleon was blasting his ‘CANNON’S at the faces of the Sphinx. Was this because he noticed that the faces where not of European origin? HOT MIC TAKE! African? Egyptian? People of Colour? I’ve also remembered stories that the SPHINXES had noses that resembled bird peaks. KZbin history research is so confusing these days.

This looks incredible. I haven't been super impressed with many movies so far this year (not that I hated many, just thought a lot were "meh"). But with this year closing out with Oppenheimer from Nolan, Barbie from Gerwig, Napoleon from Scott, Dune Pt.2 from Villeneuve, Killers of the Flower Moon from Scorsese it may shape up to be one of the most incredible second-halfs ever. I'm personally also looking forward to The Creator from Gareth Edwards, seeing Nia DaCosta take on the MCU with The Marvels, seeing Taika Waititi go back to smaller movies with Next Goal Wins, and seeing what new stuff Snyder is cooking up with Rebel Moon. Just an absolutely packed 6 months.

He was average height, though he was often portrayed and seen among his guardsmen, who were the elite of the elite of the French Army. Back in those days infantry was divided into two types, lines and light. The line was subdivided into fusiliers and grenadiers( these were made up of taller, stronger guys, and many made into Napoleon's Guard). Besides simple propaganda, being often seen besides his Guard may have given the impression that he was short.😅

I know Napoleon’s been done before through the decades, but I’m looking forward to a modern rendition of this. I have a weird relationship with Ridley Scott. There are movies I consider absolute masterpieces like Bladerunner and Alien and the like. But, there are also a goodly number of his films that I’m not a big fan of (even if some have been positive critically or even loved by the audience). I hope this will fit into the former category.

As a fan of Ridley Scott, Joaquin Phoenix, and history I was sold before seeing the trailer. I need to research more about Napoleon. History classes just taught me him as a general and his battles. Since then I’ve heard some have label as one of the most evil men in history. I need to find out why, or if it’s more grey area like most politicians, generals and leaders.

If its Marie Antoinette in the opening sequence, it's completely wrong. She rode backwards in the cart. Her hair was chopped very close before she left prison and she was made to wear white as her usual black dress of mourning was forbidden. They feared it would illicit sympathy for her from the crowds. She also wore a mop cap. All of this was captured by the artist David in his famous sketch. The film looks great.

France bought Corsica from the Republic of Geneva in 1769 the same year of Birth of Napoleon on August 15, He was born French, his family speak Corsican a local dialect, then student of the Royal Military School of Brienne, in the age of 10 years. at 16 he became a second lieutenant in the artillery, he saw the destruction and the massacres during the revolutions he did not like that, Napoleon he loved order like any soldier at 26 after having repressed the royalists in Paris he became General of the army of Italy and the beginning are grandiose destiny '' he also won the Victory at Toulon '' love level the first love and Désiré Clary but it was a disappointment for him because will choose another French officer Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte who will later become King of Sweden. in the salon of the board of directors he will get to know Joséphine de Bauharnais who has a lot of network in high society, all the 2 will be very in love she was the woman of that life even after their divorce in 1808 I believe, he will remain very close. but Napoleon had mistresses one of the ladies-in-waiting of the Empress 'Éléonore Denuelle' will give him a son Léon. Marie Walewska a Polish countess will also give him a son 'Aléxandre' We remember that in addition to a professional soldier and the fights he led all his life to defend France, he was also a brilliant politician who laid the foundations of the current French system. Equality of citizens, civil code, commercial code to simplify relations between people, major schools, monuments, public buildings destination. The list is long. He was a man of exceptional will. A man who ultimately never had time to live for himself, constantly monopolized by a destiny he couldn't control. Its battles were never fought for entertainment, only to protect national sovereignty. He systematically asks for peace after each decisive victory. Eternal gratitude to the Emperor of the French

I have been wanting a large scale biopic of Napoleon since I learned about him in school as a kid.
