Those 1960s quarters and coin count slips need to be in a shadow box with the manual. Maybe even another marquee if you can find one and a nice small engraved plaque. Those are show pieces that need preserving. It would make a great wall hanging in your arcade. Maybe Im crazy but this piece needs to be celebrated.

@RotaryTurbo8 жыл бұрын
+Septik Nolan While it is remotely possible that those quarters were theirs, as I have seen 60s quarters in circulation, I bet they were in the coin bucket. You don't see many that old in circulation anymore. Always a neat discovery to find coins and tokens in old arcade machines.

Hey John, could you buy yourself a big roll of double sided sticky tape/ carpet tape, the stuff comes in handy all the time & holds up longer than standard tape as well. My guess is that the overlay was originally glued & over time has fallen off & a operator just taped it there in place. Keep up the great work & let Warren know that he's a real gentleman helping you out this much.

Epic restoration. One warning about gaffer's tape. I love the stuff; it's strong, yet comes off far more cleanly than duct tape...at first! But if you leave it on for months or years, the glue can dry to a nasty hard powder that's hard to clean off. So gaffer's tape is really best for temporary jobs. I'm glad you switched to a different tape.

Maybe someone else has already mentioned it by now, but an easy way of polishing carriage bolt heads is to mount the carriage bolt in a power drill and hold a piece of sandpaper, emery cloth, or steel wool in the palm of your hand. Then just drill the carriage bolt head against the sandpaper in your hand.

I would suggest recording your Computer Space high scores as "Your Score vs. Opponent's Score", or in other words subtract opponent's score from your score. So if you get more points while getting hit less, you have a better score. I think it would make the game more competitive.
@Johnsarcade8 жыл бұрын
+JVeg199X That's a good idea!
@jeremysteffen78538 жыл бұрын
+JVeg199X Actually, I would just have the highscore and the enemy score as a tie breaker. A person with a score of 20 kills and 15 deaths should beat a person who has 10 kills and 2 deaths. This way, if two people have a high score of 20, and one died 15 times and the other 5 times, then the latter would win.

The easiest way to clean / polish bolt heads is to stick them in a drill, get a piece of material with a blob of steal polish, then drill the bolt head on the material. You probably should have cleared them as well, so the rust doesn't come back as quick.
@pinmandan51648 жыл бұрын
Great to see it back together again & working as it should :-) I think the novelty will wear off pretty quick though, like you said "the game play is like watching paint dry !" So I wouldn't be surprised if this game is out of the basement in 12 months ;-) I think if someone offers you a good amount, it will be gone soon enough, especially due to the lack of space in the basement. Time will tell !!

Love watching these videos, Is it possible to move the TV closer to the front of the cabinet? seems like an awful lot of light bleed from the Marquee.
@bitrot428 жыл бұрын
+73mathesar Not easily... but in person, the light is kind of a nice "effect."
@Johnsarcade8 жыл бұрын
+73mathesar I don't think so. At least not using the brackets. Maybe that's why I found those 26v bulbs in there?
@mathesar8 жыл бұрын
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Well since the light bleed is coming from underneath the marquee maybe theres a way to block it from emitting onto the TV? I guess it's not a huge deal but I watched a couple other computer space videos and they don't seem to have this issue.
@pinmandan51648 жыл бұрын
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Looks like all you would need to do is put some think washers between the brackets and where is mounts to the cabinet. That will push the TV forward.
@scottgfx8 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that the score and timer are an overlay, separate from the game play. Perhaps some trimmers or caps that would raise it up to be in-line with the bezel decal? Cool video. I saw one of these cabinets at a Goodwill in Indianapolis, 1980. I was only 10 at the time but I remember, it was a pong conversion. Yeah, you don't forget them.

While experimenting with a video mod on a Sega console, I've noticed that when the Sync signal is marginal, the top of the CRT is where the picture will start to get wobbly, while the rest of the picture is still good. The slight twitching on the CRT in this video reminds me of that, I wonder if it's being caused by a weak sync signal. Not that I have any idea what the root cause would be, but it matches the symptom.

good job Warren & John very amazing restoration but i think you have again a counter issue for the ship maybe its logic chip who make this like the one you replace before or a contact problem. when Warren play there's nothing but after removing the board for testing the capacitor you have the issue
@sparkyKestrel8 жыл бұрын
Hey John, great to see your Computer Space finally 100% working, and you totally owned it with that game you had. Heard your comment about where to put it, I think if you could rethink where some of your stuff goes so that you could put it next to the Ice Cold Beer, kind of have the "different" games in your collection together, near the front of your arcade so they kind of stand out together to anyone entering your arcade, particularly for anyone who is seeing it for the first time. And I kinda think that putting it where warren said, which is really towards the back of your arcade, is not really presenting it all that good, you want to put it where it will stand out to make people notice it even moreso, after all, that cabinet really demands attention and should be put somewhere where it really will get the most attention possible. Just my 2 cents anyway.

Maybe this was explained and I just didn't see it, but I watched some other Computer Space videos on KZbin, and the scoring works normally. Meaning, it doesn't make weird shapes once you get past 9. Was this an early version and that a late? Or what's the reasoning. Seems weird they'd go through all that trouble to make this thing and then not have the numbers count correctly.
@Johnsarcade6 жыл бұрын
What I've seen and read elsewhere, mine is correct. Maybe the emulators fix it. This is from some Computer Space website "Scores are displayed at the right side of the screen as a single digit 7-segment-style numeral. While intended to be in decimal, there's a common issue, typically with the player's score, wrapping around at 16 (instead of 10), thus displaying hexadecimal "garbage" for scores in the range of 10 to 15. (The enigmatic display graphics are the actual output of the Intel 7448 BCD-to-seven-segment decoder chip used by the game.)"
