This is one of the best break downs I've ever heard. Do you take on coaching mentees? I love learning from other successful coaches.

Kyle, many thanks. I am based in the UK and have coaches come to visit and or work with me on-line. I do charge for this. Let me know more if you are interested and what you were tthinking (email: JohnShepherdFitness@gmail.com)

Hi John, Thank you for your excellent channel. What % of a jumper's maximum sprint speed would you expect to be running for long and triple jump? would this be dfferent for an elite versus a relatively inexperienced amateur. I am a M65 'athlete' and came to the sport late in life. I think I have been encouraged to be too conservative with my run up which seems to be about 75% of my maximum track running speed.

Very close to 100% at elite level. The thing is it’s controlled as a flat out sprint would likely lead to tension and inaccuracy on the run-up. You need to be in the right sprinting position to set the jump up on the penultimate step for example. I’d say that “yes” 70% is a little conservative. I’d suggest around 90%. Speed and take off conversion are the key determinants of long jump distance. All the best and thanks for the channel comments.

What are some good concentric/muscle shortening/increased power production workouts I can do as a triple jumper?

Take a look at this newly uploaded video. I addressed your question in it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ2beouvg550oNksi=geRO96HXQLxdMqxq

Do you have a video of how to get hight with my long jump?

I will look into this - I’ve touched on this in the past but don’t think I’ve addressed it as a singular topic.

Would you recommend marking all these phases in a meet as well?
@Johnshepherdtrackcoach10 ай бұрын
Not really - maybe the accel phase one so you set the run-up at the start and keep control. Keep practising your run-up and it will become fluent and more likely to be close to autopilot- enabling you to get into the best take-off positions.

Sir the first 5-6 steps should be similarly emphasised by athletes, even if the athlete uses non static runway start ??

Is there any difference between long jump running technique and sprinting for 100 technique?
@Johnshepherdtrackcoach7 ай бұрын
Yes, although the technique can look the same you need to run with much more control and potentially a more elevated taller technique. The run-up is very structured and how you hit the last 3 steps is crucial when the jump set up occurs. Search the channel for run-up videos and more will be explained. 👍🏽
