I appreciate what you have shared in this video... the anxiety I have about boat carbs is not actually rebuilding them, but is installing them back on the engine and setting them up so that they run in sync... thanks

The plastic pieces that you’re talking about is actually ethanol fuel which is the culprit for clogging carburetors and many types of engines.

From one Canadian to another: Great vid!!!!! Just bought a 1973 Johnson 25hp. Runs great, but I`m going to clean the carb anyhow (not sure when it was done last). Carb kit will be in today! GREAT tips on removing/installing the little frost plugs!!!!!!! I`ve always wondered how the heck to remove them. Not familiar with boat carbs, but I do 100`s of snowmobile carbs a year, this should be a sinch!!!! Thanks for the video, very clear and precise....thumbs up!!!!!!!

i finally got my johnson 25seahorse running after she sat under water for to tides. sprayed wd40 everywhere but shop said be cheaoer to buy another cheap engine. then she seized but i unseized her, cleaned the salt outta carb. obviously there was more to it than that but i learned alot from it.i narrowed it down to carb cos she started on easy start spray(i know, i'm a turd, dont use that for these)but she fired up. anyway, useful vid, if only i watched it first.

Should note, when you put replace those frost caps, you put them in like you are putting a contact lens on an eye. They should not concave into the chamber but should be like putting a dome on the chambers. When you tap them down they will then expand. If you do it opposite, they won't stay in place.

the spring is something new, Im cleaning 1968 9.5 seahorse, and once I open the carbs there was no spring, i order a new needle from sierra and it came with the spring, I guess the spring is for when you lay the outboard on its side or down, so the needle doesn't get stuck

You will need to verify that the primer is indeed allowing fuel through. It should click. Take the outlet hose off and activate it. Then squeeze the primer bulb. Fuel should squirt out.

I have a 1983 50hp Johnson (J50BELCTA) that runs fine on the muffs on land but doesn't idle and stalls in the water. After taking the carb air covers off I noticed that one of the screw plugs to the idle jet on the top portion of the carb was completely missing. Would this be the culprit causing my idling issues?

Hey thanks for the video! I have the exact carbs on my evinrude 115 v4 and I just have a question. When I got this boat it had not run for years and when I pulled off the carbs and took the bowls off they did not have any jets inside of the bowls. Does the engine need these jets in order to run properly? The boat will run fine with a garden hose on the trailer, but it won't run when the leg is submerged in the lake thank you

Hey, great video! I have a 1970 85093d. When disassembling, what is the proper way to remove the needle levers so the silencer base can be removed? This 1970 motor is in awesome shape and I don't want to snap a plastic part for lack of instruction. Also, the manual choke spring was not attached and the exploded parts diagram is no help as to where the spring hooks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Matt C.

+Matt Corfield I just pry them off....then actually leave them off. That way you can set the carbs each the way they need to be. Move the choke assembly and you should see where the spring will attach.

@TheMarineDoctor
@TheMarineDoctor 8 жыл бұрын
+1984KCHEVY So the carbs appear to empty out as it sits? There is a leak no the engine side somewhere. This allows for air to enter the system....the fuel then drains back. You may also have a stuck check valve on the gas outlet at the tank.

I have the same carbs, except my float bowl cover only has one screw cap on each side, not two as shown in your video. Question if i may...What about lateral play in throttle shaft? is there any seals or bushings to replace in there? cant find any info on that...as well as any parts...shaft..butterflys etc? shed any light on that? thanks
@ct1762
@ct1762 5 жыл бұрын
i know this is old, but the answer is no... don't sweat a little play. those butterfly units are NOT serviceable, which would explain why you can't find info. no seals in there as well. they don't have anything to do with air flow, only the jets do (some have air jets as well, but not this one).

my carbs are from a 78 115 evinrude do you use the orings on the main jet covers which is on the carb body and gaskets on the idle jet covers which are on the bowl somebody I think has rebuilt the carbs and used gaskets on the main jet covers and idle covers aswell.

so i have a 1980 johnson 115. basically it idols kinda rough and usually after a minute or so will stall(sometimes even quicker). it also can kinda get up to speed(right around 30 mph) but today had a lot of trouble starting it. took the motor cover off and it started. then later in the day i couldnt get over 10 mph until i took the motor cover off again and it had much more power and i was able to get it up to 30 mph again. it also has random spurts of more power but they're only instantaneous and infrequent. seems like it has more power but just can't get there. any suggestions?

Check to see that all the wires are in place on the back of the engine and are not shorting through to the cowling clasps. You might also want to check for an exhaust leaking into the cowling.

having trouble with my 1978 115hp johnson. Have use starting fluid to get it going then after running won't start back even with fluid.
@TheMarineDoctor
@TheMarineDoctor 8 жыл бұрын
Starting fluid will wash the oil away from the cyl walls and the bearing, its not recommended. A mix of 2 stroke oil and gas is a better option, but not entirely safe. Its not a recommended practice. Look for spark and compression. Also verify that the choke plates are closing.
