Great video, very interesting. Sure points to the charge coil or power pack, eh? Or maybe a short in that floppy kill switch, as Tim's Workshop stated. Can't wait for the next exciting episode of "The Whitewater Ranger"!

I raced boats for 30+ years, small motors. We set a record, just over 72 mph with a 7 1/2 hp motor on a 11'9" hydro. For my play on the lake motor I took oldkg4 crankcase, crank, rods. I then installed the 7's pistons and block. It was a nice screamer, for awhile, LOL. IT BREAKS THE 4's crankshaft just below top bearing, that thin lip the bearing bottomed on was all the held the flywheel on. It would run in a spurt, then die, before it stopped spinning it would run again. Made it to my tool trailer like that

Hey, I had the same "primer circuit plugged up" issue on my 30 hp. No surprise as those connector's diameter is so small. At least, you now have the engine's problem down to an electric issue ... I think. Regards !

I had this same issue, I noticed that your neutral safety switch wires are missing. That right there could cause intermittent issues.. I’d ground one side of the switch to the block, the other wire wraps around hooks onto the harness.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 9 ай бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I like your attention to detail. Actually it is grounded to the block by the mounting screw and serves no purpose at this point. On this "setup" the other wire, that's missing, would go straight to the starter relay ground. That will prevent the starter from engaging if it were in gear. This power head is from a 89 remote control setup/harness. I really do need to hook it up to be on the safe side! Thanks again & Stay tuned !

many OMC motors had different heads and porting, too. and tuners. i'd take the kill wire out at the pack and test for spark again. see if it still acts up. the powerhead ground is ok?

Hey TOO, haven't seen a vid from you in a while, always great! I have an old Evinrude 25HP, I got it running pretty well, but always used the ears when running. I tried it in a big bucket, and it wasn't pissing like before, almost nothing. So I think may be the impeller, either that or it was cavitating in the bucket somehow. Do you have any ideas? Thanks!
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for tuning in! Was the bucket deep enough to cover the pump?
@land7776
@land7776 9 ай бұрын
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Hi, yes it was def covering the pump intakes. I was using one of those big wide plastic buckets with the rope handles, like you carry a bunch of beers in for a beach party. It narrows a bit a the bottom. It didn't look like the water was cavitating, but I noticed it was barely spitting out the tubes, and was getting hotter, unlike when I used the ears. I'm wondering if the ears push enough water up to work, but pump or maybe impeller is weak by itself. It's an old motor that's sat mostly unused for years. How common for pump or impeller to go out, and is there easy way to check?(or any other causes). Thanks !
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 9 ай бұрын
@@land7776 Hey. Yeah it's best to just pull it apart and replace it. Less worrying to do and while your at it test/replace the thermostat and hook up a garden hose to the water tube and flush it out while the thermostat is out. No point worrying and wondering!

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 ok, thanks, that's the best plan-I'll have to build a motor stand and make it a winter project. Now it's on an old 15' Starcraft Holiday Runabout(that needs a transom replacement!), ha, what a surprise when I ran across your channel

I have a 25hp 80s johnson seahorse. It starts great every time, but bogs way down when i give it the gas. I know it isnt the carb, fuel pump, coils, power pack. What could cause it ? a bad stator? worn rings? clogged exhaust?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for tuning in! I've had this same comment/question over a hundred times, and I usually respond with this... Never assume anything with these things, just because it "looks" good means nothing. So if you haven't done so already, Double check the carb slow/high speed circuits. They tend to get overlooked. High speed orifice/jet in the bowl needs to be "surgically" clean. Those little holes in the top inside throat of the carb need to be "poked" to unclog them. No amount of carb cleaner will work. Rinse it out with brake cleaner & blow it out with compressed air. You'd be surprised how many times I would hear back, you were right! or that was it! Anyway, once your 100% convinced it's clean and not the problem, which you may already be, like I said, you may have already done it, I would look at the timing/sync. Is the butterfly just starting to open as the cam follower or "roller" rolls between the two marks on the throttle cam. If it opens to soon or to late, that can cause a bog. Check the roller too, sometimes they get worn and have a flat spot and don't roll at all. I've never had a "bog" from an ignition problem, it's usually fuel/air, timing. An air leak somewhere, usually around the intake or bypass cover, could also cause a bogging situation, but in my experience it was rare. You mentioned "rings" have you done a compression test? One more thing would be a leaking exhaust gasket, but that is only noticeable with the hood on and the exhaust chokes out the carb, hood off runs great. Clogged exhaust is a possibility, it could be clogged with mud dobber nest. Wow that double espresso really kicked in, I just typed out a book! Hahaha. Anyway keep at it and I'm curious to know what you find out. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Waiting, having the same issue with my 25/35, tired of it. Shoved that boat to the back of the garage, pushed out the bigger with the Merc 75 Force. Actually, with the seas I'm now in I should of been using this one all along. Do something about that loose kill switch, they ground out and you'll work on everything else for days before you check it.
